An emotional night saying farewell to the amazing Gill. Thanks for all the laughs Gill!

A bittersweet week for our team.
This week 7 years ago, a new era began as Angus, Tricia and Gill opened the doors of the fledgling Lomond Hills Veterinary Clinic. We had absolutely no idea how our new venture would go. Gill left a long-term position to take those first tentative steps with us as we opened our doors. Without her, those early days would have been very difficult.
Tomorrow is Gill's last day at Lomond Hills Veterinary Clinic as she hangs up her veterinary nursin...g green uniform and considers new ventures.
Without Gill, Lomond Hills Veterinary Clinic would not be the success it is today. She brought many years of nursing experience, a great sense of humour, and an empathetic and compassionate outlook to our team.
We have squeezed in some wonderful times in our seven years together and Angus and Tricia particularly are ever-grateful for her contributions to our success.
We believe that Lomond Hills Veterinary Clinic has an incredible team and Gill will be sorely missed by every one of us.
We are sure our clients will miss her immensely too.
Good luck for the future Gill. We look forward to hearing about your new adventures!

How many times have you said you were "just popping into the supermarket for 2 minutes"?
How many times did you become distracted and end up staying much longer than anticipated (and spending much more than expected)?
Yesterday, in the heat of the late afternoon, we had to speak to two separate dog owners who had left two dogs in their cars in a supermarket carpark.
... Both sets of owners refused to accept that they were putting their dogs' lives in danger.
Both owners said they had only left them for 5 minutes.
In one of the cases, it was more than 15 minutes and the owner had ignored repeated tannoy announcements before eventually going out to their car.
In both cars, the dogs were settled when left but were visibly restless and panting within 5 minutes.
In both cases, we had abuse hurled at us.
Please, NEVER leave your dog in a car during warm weather.
We had to sit with our car door open whilst we waited for the owners to appear as we found it too hot inside the car.
Imagine how the dogs felt! All 4 dogs had thick coats. We were wearing summer clothes.
Remember too that dogs don't sweat like we do. Panting is a way of them trying to regulate their temperature.
We have to repeat this message every time the weather warms up.
Anyone who has seen a dog die of heat exposure would never take such a risk.
It's an unpleasant way to die and is heartbreakingly unnecessary.

Just a reminder that Lomond Hills Veterinary Clinic are proud to have achieved Gold Cat Friendly status. Our reception staff are currently completing a Cat Friendly Receptionist qualification and we have a holder of the Advanced Certificate of Feline Behaviour on our veterinary team. We constantly endeavour to improve the care and welfare of cats visiting our clinic.

Our website www.lomondhillsvets.co.uk has been updated at last! About time that we introduced another member of staff. Most regular clients will have met Lauren. Lauren is a Registered Veterinary Nurse She qualified in 2016, but prior to that obtained a BSc(Hons).... Lauren has worked in practices in Dunfermline and Falkirk (where she worked mainly on avian patients). Her main veterinary interests are in medical nursing and exotics patients. Lauren is an avid reader who also enjoys walking her rescue greyhound Hunter and spending time with her husband.

Whilst we are working on updating our website - hopefully, before our 7th birthday - we thought we would introduce some of our team that have not quite made it onto the website yet. First up is Jenna, who joined our reception team last year. Jenna has extensive retail experience, having worked in a large supermarket chain from assistant up to manager level. The skills she has gained have proven invaluable as one of our fantastic reception team. She loves all animals and the p...uppy in the photo is her new addition Willow. In her free time, Jenna enjoys baking and sweet-making (much to Angus’s delight!), reading, and spending time with her family.

Calling all cat owners! Shona, one of our locums, also teaches at the University of Surrey Veterinary School and would really appreciate it if cat owners could spend a little time to complete this survey about the use of parasitic treatments. Not only will this give the profession an insight into owner perception, but it may also benefit cat welfare! Thank you.

*** EMAIL ISSUES *** We are currently experiencing problems with our emails. If you have emailed in the past few days and have not received an expected reply, please call us to check. Finn and Angus are pretending to work on it, but admit that things are past the control-alt-delete stage!

Wishing all our clients with Irish roots a Happy St Patrick's Day.☘️🍀☘️🍀 It is also our Paddy's 11th birthday. He was born on St Patrick's Day and came to our family in June 2008. Despite a few grey hairs, and becoming a little forgetful (sounds sadly familiar!), he is still as active as ever. He has no idea what age he is and obviously doesn't really care! Happy Birthday Paddy!

Thank you to whoever nominated us! Proud to see the Lomond Hills Veterinary Clinic team recognised for their efforts.

Dental disease in our pets is incredibly common, and sadly often un-noticed.
Many pets continue to eat despite undoubtedly being in considerable pain.
Please be aware that dental procedures require a general anaesthetic to be done properly - "tooth cleaning and descaling" advertised by many groomers is ineffective and has no long term benefits for your pet. It may also contravene the Veterinary Surgeon's Act.
... We hope reposting some of our dental advice will guide you in making the best decisions for your pet.

It needs to be emphasised that Zoe is NOT suited to a domestic home environment. If you would like to have a cat around your steading or stables, are willing to feed her and offer her shelter, please get in touch with Fife Cat Shelter directly.

This looks like a fun night raising funds for a great cause. Pop it in your diary and get a team together!

We don't have many Burmese as patients but if all our lovely cat owners could share this, then it may reach further! Thank you.

How does your dog spend their day? Our dogs also have to fit in "annoy the cats" at least twice daily, and "lick bottom noisily" on occasion. It's a hard life! 🤣

So very happy with the vet , they looked after my very old lady Kat all day yesterday after she sneaked out ( she was disoriented I think after her seizures , cannot thank them enough , they gave her medication , they discovered she had fleas ( ashamed to say I didn't know ) and they treated her for that then , yes it gets better ! When I found out she was there at 8.30pm last night thru Facebook he met us at the practice 30 mins later for us to pick her up ? The cost of all this ? A big fat ZERO !! Not that I would not have paid xxxx end of my long story is I'd love to thank the kind lady who found her quite far away form home for her , there are no words to say how grateful I am , to all thanks again xxxx

My two female cats were in today for their neutering through the Fife Cat Shelter Amnesty. The vet and the nurse who dealt with them were both so lovely, professional and knowledgeable. This put me at ease, safe in the knowledge that they were in the best hands. Everyone we dealt with was lovely. Everything was explained clearly and in such a friendly manner. Would really recommend this vets!

Thank you Lomond Hills!

Lomondhills have such lovely and personable staff who always treat my pups as if they were their own. They get well spoiled with cuddles by everyone there every time we go! They accommodate us and give first class service every single time. I'm so, so glad we found Lomond hills. I know my dogs are in safe hands with Angus, Trisha and all their staff. Thank you all!

User

I honestly can't thank Angus and the staff enough for the way they look after my 12 year old German Shepherd, Mushka. She had to have major surgery and thanks to them it went without a hitch and she's back to her old self again. Everyone is so friendly and nothing is any trouble to them. You can tell they love animals. Thank you all very much for taking care of her, Mushka and I really appreciate it x
