Lonach Highland Gathering And Games

The Lonach Highland Gathering and Games is one of Scotland's leading traditional events. Held annually on the fourth Saturday of August, this year's event takes place on Saturday 27th August. Staged against the backdrop of the picturesque Aberdeenshire countryside in Bellabeg Park, Strathdon, the Lonach Highland Gathering features the unique march of the Lonach Highlanders. Organised by the Lonach Highland & Friendly Society, the gathering is an important local community event that attracts over 7, 000 visitors each year, with many coming from overseas to experience the unique march of the Lonach Highlanders. The society was established in 1823 by Sir Charles Forbes, 1st Baronet of Newe and Edinglassie and it still aims to fulfil the society's original mission of preserving Highland dress and "supporting loyal, peaceful, and manly conduct; and the promotion of social and benevolent feelings among the inhabitants of the district. "
