The staff at Lornebank were treated to a team building evening organised by Samuel and Jenny the other week. This is planned to take place every quarter, working alongside the implementation of our new dynamic audit process. The staff that attended had a great night and were given the opportunity to bond as a team which will increase the staff morale and result in better outcomes for the residents that we care for.
A huge thank you to Samuel and Jenny for arranging this wonderful event!

On Thursday 19th December, we held our annual Christmas party here at Lornebank. We were entertained by Jamie, who played a variety of our residents’ favourite songs. He even brought a bubble machine! All attendees enjoyed a drink from the Jolly Trolley and had cakes, crisps and sweets. A highlight of the event was certainly the raffle, with both staff and residents winning a selection of prizes! A huge thank you to the organisers - it was certainly an event to remember!

Earlier this month, we held a Strictly Come Dancing event at our home. Hosted by Jim Robertson, the afternoon saw our residents compete against one another in a dancing contest. A huge congratulations to Liz Ryan from the Peacock Unit who achieved first place, closely followed by Charles Livingstone from the Peacock Unit and Frank Smith from the Clydesdale Unit. Staff members Anne and Christine also performed their own dance routine, which was a pleasant surprise! A massive thank you to our judges Kayleigh and Claire, and also to Lynn who organised the event. It was a fantastic afternoon filled with song, dance and laughter!

On 14th November, we held our Winter Olympics event. Each unit had created their own flags, which were judged following the games. The event featured four games: Target Game, Skittles, Basketball and Tin Can Alley. All the residents became very competitive, wanting to win the trophy and other prizes that were on offer. Congratulations to the Clydesdale Unit for achieving first place, closely followed by Livingstone and Willowbank. A further congratulations to the Willowbank Unit on being awarded first place for flag design! We all celebrated the results with ice cream and a sing song all together. What a fantastic afternoon!

Rehearsals for this year’s Christmas panto, Pinocchio “the love story” written by Lynn our Senior Activities Coordinator, are well under way! Staff from admin, domestics and maintenance, as well as carers and senior carers, are all taking part, with Lynn as the narrator. The residents gathered to watch our preparations this week and all agreed that they can’t wait to see the performance on Monday 16th December – nor can we!

We certainly had a busy Halloween this year at Lornebank!
On the evening of 30th October, we held our Halloween extravaganza! The Ootlanders returned to entertain us all and it was fantastic to see the residents and staff enjoying a song and dance. We all tucked into crisps and cake, whilst the drinks were flowing. The costumes worn by all attendees were truly incredible, with the residents wearing hats that they had decorated in advance. On the previous day, our residents ha...d been busy pumpkin carving in preparation for this event and their designs were all displayed for judging. Huge congratulations to the Willowbank Unit for coming in first place, and to resident Charles Livingston who was voted best dressed of the evening! It is fair to say that we all had a great time!
On 31st October, we held our big Halloween quiz. As always, everyone loved the challenge and became very competitive. Thank you to quiz master Margo, and to Lynn for keeping the scores. Huge congratulations to the Peacock Unit who were the winning team. Everyone enjoyed an ice cream cone following the quiz!
A huge thank you to all of our dedicated staff that made these events happen – we could not have done it without you!

Earlier this month, we held a Country and Western themed party. By popular demand, Kirk James paid us a visit and entertained us with all the old country favourites. Residents really immersed themselves in the experience, wearing neckerchiefs and cowboy hats. Each unit entered a competition to decorate a cowboy hat and a huge congratulations must go to Willowbank who achieved first place! Ken Robertson certainly wore the winning hat with pride! We had drinks from our Jolly Trolley and residents tucked into hot dogs. It is fair to say that we all had a fantastic afternoon!

On Wednesday 18th September, our staff and residents wore pyjamas for the day. We held a big party in the Garden Café and Andrea kindly volunteered to sing karaoke for us all. Everyone enjoyed singing along to old time favourites and choc ices were available to all attendees. Thank you to our incredible staff for organising this successful event, as well as to all those that helped us to raise £42 for our comfort fund. It certainly was a fantastic day all round!

On Monday 16th September, residents, staff, family and friends all came together to celebrate Mattie Robertson’s 100th Birthday. The Lord Provost and his Deputy, joined by a representative from South Lanarkshire council and an official photographer, arrived at 11:45. Mattie was thrilled to receive her telegram from the Queen, as well as a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and her family and friends all gathered round as she was presented with a certificate from the council. All attendees raised a glass as she cut her cake, which was shortly followed by a buffet for everyone to enjoy. A huge happy birthday to Mattie from all of us here at Lornebank!
