About Love Gorgie Farm

LOVE Gorgie Farm, on the former Gorgie City Farm site, is operated by education and social care charity LOVE Learning. The charity supports vulnerable children, young people and adults, using innovative ways to engage them in learning.

Love Gorgie Farm Description

The urban farm remains open seven days a week and is free for visitors. Our education centre provides education services to children and young people, including animal and forest therapy, and will engage with local communities on environmental programmes around farming and food production. We have a food bank and social enterprise café, which helps it to engage further with the community.

LOVE Gorgie Farm also provides a range of professional apprenticeships and Scottish Qualifications Authority accredited programmes within its skills academy.

In the future we will also provide social prescribing and wellbeing therapies in partnership with the NHS, mental health and holistic therapies, and employability projects.

We have just had our daughters third birthday here today and it was just wonderful. We have always loved the farm, the kids (19 of them!) had a great time and we were so well looked after throughout the party. Highly recommend for a visit or a party x

User

We had our lovely guinea pigs here for pet boarding for the summer holidays as we were away. And I think they had an awesome holiday here themselves :) . They were outside every alternating day, being able to run around on the grass. We just picked them up today and they were absolutely doing great. I can only recommend their services and the staff look really well after all the pets/animals. Great place. Anytime again :) .

User

We had a great day out yesterday ( Wednesday) our first time at farm and won't be our last , my son absolutely loved meeting and feeding the baby goats and piggys and the young lady who ran it was brilliant, thanks again and the wee park is great for littles ones , they all loved the tractor!

User

My son had his third birthday party at the farm recently and all the kids had a great time. It was very well organised and i would recommend it for a kids party.

User

Just had a six-year-old's birthday party here and it was fantastic. It was easy to book, lots of helpful info provided, and staff were friendly and accommodating when we needed to vary some details at the last minute. On the day the kids had a brilliant time. They loved cuddling everything from the fluffy (chinchilla) to the not-so-fluffy (snake) and their sparkling eyes and excited faces spoke volumes. Then they loved scampering round the farm, feeding the bigger animals. A really special experience for them all. The party room for the birthday food was bright and clean and the food was just right. And all I had to do was provide a cake as everything else was taken care of - for once I finished a kids' party actually feeling relaxed! Thank you Gorgie, a huge thumbs up from us all.

User

It shocked me that such a great little farm could be right in the centre of Edinburgh!

Olive the duck was probably one of the best characters there - waddling around and loves a good chat/ quack.

The staff are super friendly and are able to answer any questions about any of the animals!

Lovely little place would definitely recommend to families with little ones!

User

I would highly recommend a visit to the farm my little granddaughter who is 2 loves animals she had a great time like wise so do it Defo worth a visit and I will be back soon

User

I was there today hadn't been there for years was so pleased to see it was still there and still doing amazing work we were there for 3 hrs staff and animals were great!!

User

Had a great wee day at Georgie farm with my great nephew , mum n myself on Wednesday n was talking to one of the girls who works there telling her all about all the generations in the family that have been there so she toook our picture beside the ducks so hopefully it will get put up on ur web page for us to see xx thanks for all your hard work xxx

User

Had a great time yesterday. My son loves animals and it was great he could get close to touch some of them. Only bad point was there were a few nursery groups in and while this is brilliant for Gorgie farm, I think we missed out on a lot as he would have loved to have seen the tortoise out and get a chance to feed the sheep which we saw them doing. We spent well over an hour and a half here and will definitely be back.

User

Gorgie City Farm is a Community Farm and is a Gift that we should all be proud of and support with donations as it’s Fantastic ! Best time to visit ? 12 o clock for the bottle feeding of the lambs and also when Bookbugs is on too !Excellent Staff very child friendly woooo we love Gorgie Farm!

User

A great little urban farm. Animals to see, some to pet and learn more about. The staff/volunteers were very sweet, friendly and welcoming. The play park is nice for little ones. Nice family day out in the city. Good to support this place so although free charge, a donation is appreciated for all the efforts they put in. Nothing else like it in the city.

User

I enjoyed it but was there with service users and found it very difficult to push wheelchairs along the cobbles and the road down to the cafe area was unsuitable for people with walking difficulties although I have to say it's a lovely place for children and it's free to get in which makes it good for parents

User

Good community Farm, however, it’s in desperate need of some cash input. It was well run and contrary to some comments I read on Trip Advisor, the pens were clean and not too smelly ( why wouldn’t a farm smell anyway), the staff were friendly and helpful. We had lunch in the cafe, not loads on offer, but the sandwiches were good and my Grandson had a lovely little lunch box.

My Grandson absolutely loved the playground, although a bit basic, it gave him lots of imaginative play, especially the old tractor. There were also lots of washing facilities and the toilets were spotless. No parking, but the number 33 stops right outside.

User

Hmmm i remember this when i was a kid...probably 25 ish years ago i last went and it seemed amazing then. I was disappointed in it now....lots of pigs and sheep and hens but not a great deal else. Felt the ORF signs for the goats should have been at the start of the Farm not once you get to the area they are in. What if i had touched them and not noticed then contracted it and passed it onto my own animals or family?? The wee indoor sections where alright and a few nice different animals in there though the ferrets where smelly. The garden bit wasnt very good but guess its winter. Also visited the cafe...the scones where nice and it was cheap for 3 people but the choice was absolutely awful...either scones or crisps if im honest... My last wee comment is as you come round the back just before the scarecrow people it actually does look a bit of a tip and not very organised!

User

Gorgie farm a childhood favourite 30 odd years ago.

I was so pleased they kept it open. Even more pleased the cafe was backopen. Arrived today at lunch time. Popped into the cafe for lunch. Beautifully decorated, what a improvement. Sadly the food choice is dire. A mug of soup. Scones and tray bakes. Kids only offered a kids box juice fruit baby bel yoghurt and digestive biscuit. My family are lactose intolerant so that did not work. - son had to have a mug of soup.

Let's hope a walk round the farm is good.

User

As the weather was not that great when we were there it put a damper on the visit was a bit disappointed not to see more animals and never got a chance for my granddaughter to get up close every time we asked we were told not just now so did not stay as Long as we wanted to however the volunteers do a good job

User

Quite disappointed actually....cafe was closed, couldn’t see the sheep and cows, there was a truck blocking the way, actually was asked to move. Had my wee granddaughter with me. The whole thing lasted about ten minutes.

User

Looked on the visit scotland page. Says pets welcome, with a picture of a dog. So i bring my 2 kids and puppy only to be faced with a no dog sign. No staff around to help. One from the boarding area to tell me no dogs. Why does it say on the visit Scotland page pets welcome with a picture of a dog when they clearly are not welcome?
