About Us

Lucy Donnell is a luxury Scottish knitted accessories designer based in Glasgow.
Lucy graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2008, having specialised in Knitted Textile Design. After spending some years working in Independent Retail, Arts Heritage and Knitwear Business, Lucy developed her personal practice and set up business in 2013.
Quality and sustainability are central to our business ethos and every aspect of our product collection has been responsibly sourced and produced with great care.
Every item is made in Scotland on a hand framed knitting machine in the Scottish Borders town of Hawick, which is famous for its historical production of highest quality knitwear. We work with a long established family run workshop with a team of several professional knitters, including one knitter who has achieved 54 years in the role.

Our Products: The Para Handy Collection

As well as being made in Scotland, our products are inspired by Scotland.
The Tales of Para Handy is a collection of fictional stories written by Neil Munro, born in Inveraray, Scotland in 1863. The colourful tales follow the lives of Captain Para Handy and his crew aboard the puffer boat, Vital Spark, as it journeys around the beautiful West Coast and Islands of Scotland.
The Para Handy Collection is inspired by these travels and the locations visited, drawing colours from West Coast Harbours and Seascapes, giving a real Scottish feel to the designs.
Our colourful collection of knitted accessories includes scarves, snoods, mitts, headbands, cushions and hot water bottles.

Materials

All of our knitted products are made from 100% finest Lambswool. Our Lambswool is a Geelong variety which has a very fine and soft quality, and it is spun into yarn in the UK.
Wool is a fantastic natural and sustainable material and it is traditional to Scotland’s knitting history. The type of wool used in our products is a soft ‘first clip’ Lambswool. This softness makes it ideal for wearing around the face and neck. While being lightweight, wool is also a great insulator and the natural oil which is contained in the fibre helps it to be water resistant. Another wonderful benefit of knitting with wool is its longevity, and with everything knitted to the highest quality in Scotland, you can expect to be enjoying your accessories for years to come.
Our Cushions come complete with a luxury feather pad, made in England and filled only with Duck Feathers sourced from Europe. We have also sourced safe and high quality bottles for our hotties, which are made in Germany.
