Happy #WorldBookDay everyone! 📚
What's one book that changed your life? Whether it's fiction or non-fiction, modern or classic, well known or a hidden gem, comment below and let me know! Reading is such an amazing way to boost creativity and imagination - and whether we use that to help in our businesses (epscially handy for social media) or simply to add a bit of magic to our personal lives, it's so worthwhile! ✨
I was never without a book when I was a child and teenager. I ...was your typical bookworm, making my way through piles of books from my local library every month, loving getting lost in all of these worlds. It was a huge part of my life and I credit it with the successes I had in writing at school. And then uni happened 😅
Between my undergrad and my masters (where I studied Film & Television, Theatre and Comparative Literature, and then International Marketing), I had so much set reading to do every week, that I needed a break from it in the evening. So suddenly my reading time became "youtube time" or "tv time". And try as I might in the years after graduating, I never got back to that same level of consistency. It was something that niggled away at me, but I knew I wasn't actively trying to fix.
So far this year I've read four books, and my aim is to finish the year on 24 - an average of two per month. In comparison to others, this is a small number, but finally, after so many years of buying books only to leave them piling up on my shelf, I feel like I'm getting back into a good rhythm with it. And I'm loving it!!
What are some of your top tips for reading more? A couple of obvious ones I've been following lately are a) reading whenever I'm on a train or bus journey and b) switching whatever show I'm watching off half an hour earlier than usual at night! 🙌

Flying into the new week like... 💫
Today was an admin day, and I had a few things to tick off the list. I quite like having Monday as a "work from home" day, because it feels like a great opportunity to really set up for a productive week and get any niggly wee tasks done and out of the way! So this afternoon has involved...
✔️ Training Document for a client finalised and sent off... ✔️ Responding to emails and sending off a couple of follow ups ✔️ Scheduling posts for a client ✔️ Scheduling posts for myself (something that always falls to the bottom of my list - sound familiar, fellow digital marketers 😅)
How did your Monday go? Hope it's been a great start to the week and you've managed to score a few things off the to-do list!
ps. Anyone who follows me on my personal social media will have seen this photo so many times - it's from Luna Park at Coney Island on my trip to NYC in 2018 and it's one of my favourites! 📸

Absolutely love this quote from Kami Huyse (@ kamichat over on Twitter) - the perfect thought to end the week on 👏
It's true. Social media is changing daily, with shifting algorithms and regular updates, constantly altering the way we approach these platforms. So try as you might, it probably won't be possible to be ahead of the curve from a "technical strategy" point of view 100% of the time. But what you can do is ensure that you are making an effort to engage with others a...nd create a strong sense of community on your accounts no matter what is going on behind the scenes on these platforms. Leave an encouraging comment, share a great post on your story, and tag others to show that your account isn't just all about you. It's about the community you're creating, the customers or clients you are serving, and the relationships you build with other business owners along the way.
Enjoy your weekend, and why not set yourself a quick and easy Monday morning task - to leave three thoughtful, genuine comments on posts from people you really admire. A little goes a long way in terms of creating those all important connections ⚡️ Happy Friday!!

Thanks so much to the lovely Sharon Lumsden (over on LinkedIn!) for this great feedback 🙌 . Sharon works with SmartPA and offers a range of business support services to her clients - she realised that a full understanding of the “behind the scenes” workings of social media was a gap in her skill set, and filling that gap would give her an opportunity to offer even more to her clients. We had a great training session a couple of weeks ago, and I was so pleased to hear she has ...already been taking advantage of her new skills to boost her clients’ online brands! 🎉 . Sound like something you could be in the market for? Whether you’re looking for help with the initial set up of your social media accounts, or more in depth exploration of paid advertising, working with influencers, or even just help getting to grips with content creation, get in touch! 👋

Oooft. Did you know that over 75% of web users watch online videos, in some form, every single week? (Biteable, 2019) 🎥
Video is a must nowadays when it comes to your marketing strategy. By 2022, it is predicted that it will make up a massive 82% of all consumer traffic online (😱). But if the thought of chatting to the camera strikes fear into you, you’re not alone! Talking to a camera can feel intimidating, and the truth is, no matter how much we say “just give it a go!” or ...“it’ll get easier the more you do it”, it’s just never going to be a comfortable experience for every single business owner. Vlogging and insta story culture has led to a rise in people putting their face (and voice!) to their brand, and honestly? I love that. Seeing business owners chat passionately about their brands is amazing. But if you prefer to stay a little further in the background (for whatever reason!) it doesn’t mean video isn’t still an important and totally viable option for you to consider!
Worried that video also has to involve a production team or complicated software? Put those fears aside! On the 1st November, I’ll be hosting a Social Media Photography and Video for Beginners workshop in Glasgow City Centre with my friend and colleague Julia! Tickets are on sale now - link in the comments below. So if you, or friends/relatives, are looking for a business social media boost in the lead up to Christmas, come and join us!

I am 100% that person who takes pictures of sunsets constantly - but the amazing colours the sky is filled with sometimes, especially at this time of year, just amaze me 😍 . Are you an autumn lover? 🍂 for some, the dark nights bring a feeling of cosiness and thoughts of hot chocolate and fairy lights and fluffy jumpers. For others, they bring a sense of panic - that feeling that the end of the year is nigh and you haven’t ticked half of those work or personal resolutions off ...the January list. I always find that this is a busier time of year in my industry, for just that reason! But rather than seeing it as a panicked rush to achieve *something* by the time the year is out, try flipping that around and viewing it as a perfect opportunity to give your brand a boost at one of the most exciting times of year! The lead up to Christmas is fun and festive and one of the best times to get yourself into good habits with your social media because there’s no shortage of things to talk about! . If you have a vision for your business social media but just aren’t sure how to get there, get in touch! I offer management and training, and group workshops, to help get you there. I was recently at a networking event where the lovely Laura from Sticky Heelz spoke about her journey - from the spark of an idea to an internationally successful business, with a line of products stocked in Boots, Superdrug and more. It was so inspiring to hear her story, and just goes to show what can happen when you notice a gap in the market 🙌
Got a brilliant idea for a product, or a service you’ve noticed no-one is offering yet? Amazing! Go after it and don’t wait for the dreaded “I had that idea!!” moment when you see it pop up on your social media a year from now 😂
Already one step ahead? Go you! 👏 if you need a little helping hand to get your idea out there, please reach out and drop me a message - I’d love to work together to bring your brand to life on social media 💖

Got a secret idea hidden away that every now and then you find your mind wandering back to? Listen to it! Maybe this is the passion project you've always been meant to fling yourself into.
So here's a challenge - over the weekend, have a think. Is there something you've always wanted to try, either in your business, or life outside of work? If the same thing keeps coming back to you, maybe now's the time to go for it! This week I've started a bit of research for the little nu...gget I keep coming back to.. so watch this space! 💖
Have a wonderful weekend all!

"Be your own best customer. Live your customer’s lifestyle."
Love this quote from author and activist Milena Glimbovski. In The Independent Girls Collective podcast episode I was a part of last week, this was something Julia, Charlotte and I talked about extensively. Figuring out who your ideal customer is is so important in helping you more effectively target your product of services. So if you feel a little bit like you're floundering, take some time to sit, note down who y...our ideal customer is and put yourself in their shoes. It's undoubtedly the best way to streamline your strategy and make sure you are putting out content that appeals to your audience 💖
All of this still feel like a bit of a minefield? Fear not! I've helped countless clients find their feet when it comes to social media through my training sessions. Drop me a message now to find out more and book your first session!
