We just had our wedding here on Friday 9th March. We honestly couldn't have chosen a better venue. Louise was amazing from start to finish making the whole process stress free. All the staff were perfect on the day special thanks to Aiden he was such a bit with all our guests and the lively Anna nothing was to much for her. We even had the pleasure of meeting Marcello after breakfast. Food was stunning more than we expected. Right down the fine details was just completely perfect. Thanks to all the staff who were involved in our wedding. Xxxx

Short stay for two nights. Excellent service from arriving until leaving the staff in the dining room were excellent and showed a great sense of humour. Lovely room comfy bed pity we didnā€™t have time to check out the Spa. Highly recommended.

Rooms, staff and food on point as always - a great retreat after travelling long distance!

Review of the spa area

Wow what a difference 2.5 degrees makes to the pool!

Recently itā€™s been freezing and I was thinking seriously of giving up my membership as my little boy was refusing to go back in.

But today it was just lovely.

Now if only the changing rooms and shower area were warmer....

User

One night stay. The food was excellent. The hotel very impressive especially when lit up at night. They must have exceptional gardeners. Pool lovely and warm. Couldnā€™t fault anything except that the photos on the website donā€™t do it justice. Mine are better!

User

Not long home from a fantastic overnight spa break to celebrate a friend birthday. We were very impressed by both the hotel and its beautiful gardens, the drive up on a sunny day was simply stunning. On arrival we were greeted warmly by a lovely smiling receptionist and details of booking were well explained. The room itself was very clean and had been given lots of attention to detail including a small selection of teas and bottled water in arrival.

Our visit to the spa was thoroughly enjoyable, with the team taking time to give us a tour of facilities which were also very clean and pretty warm. The waiting area for treatments was lovely and calming, with the room being lit by candle light rather than harsh over lights. I almost fell asleep before my massage! Lol.

We had dinner reservations for seven and were seated promptly, orders taken within a decent time and dinner served with decent sized portions with in a reasonable time. The steak was cooked to my liking perfectly.

The only criticism I can think of about the dinner is the room was very quiet so we did feel a little conspicuous when we were chatting etc, maybe a soft background music or similar may be helpful. Breakfast the next morning again was a delight a great choice of cereals, fresh fruits, juices, oatcakes etc and a perfectly cooked breakfast were available.

Although the hotel is only a few minutes away from a busy town you would never guess with how quiet it is especially at night, which aided a well rested night and possibly the best night sleep in ages.

All that being said, we did however have a few issues upon arrival but the duty manager at the time dealt with them immediately and without hesitation, which made us feel like valued customers.

Thank you again for our wonderful experience, we are already planning our next trip.

On pulling up in the grounds , quite impressed , grounds despite the grey weather were well looked after and presented , our room was spacious clean and well decorated , little attention needed regarding grouting in bathroom and paintwork on the doors , we stayed room 47 , petit lady on reception was lovely great ambassador for the hotel , we had coffee read papers enjoying the warming fire in the bar which was very pleasant , however came down to dinner ordered drinks at the bar was served a sweet sherry in a large brandy glass which was dirty with water marks , I asked for a clean glass and also if it could be put in a sherry glass , I was informed they didn't have any , no frills with drinks nuts or crisps , served by a rather surly young chap which didn't enjoy seem to happy about my complaint , next we were shown into the dining room staff were pleasant enough , room was quite stark , little soft furnishings to soak up the noise of a family which were also dining and the bleakness of the room and undressed surroundings didn't help with the ambience , ie no tablecloths , no soft lamps , no cancels or flowers , very little effort goes into making the dinning experience memorable . We ordered scotch broth soup , it smelled lovely nice fresh bread , however the soup was terrible it contained far to much barley and no evidence of meat the barley and peas were not cooked enough it was totally inedible , the more senior lady in dark jkt came to take our bowls , she commentated we hadn't eaten much accepted our complaint , never came back to tell us what the chef had said , didn't take it off the bill , and never offered anything else , it was handled badly . Main course was fine , hot and adequent , pan a cotta was fine with a rather miserly scoop of ice cream , staff were fine , however unable to deal with any criticism with a satisfactory outcome . Breakfast was fine , although the toast was very lightly toasted , and the choice on the table was alrather depleted , ie not refilled , people we noticed were asking for the jams to be topped up and fruit ect , on checking out there was some confusion regarding the bill we were givin the wrong bill at first this was then rectified , please tell no frills stay , would stay again , however would most probably find a local bistro as the dining experience was second rate , well done on grounds , generals the staff were lovely , but attention to the dining room decor , few little extra touches would make all the difference .

No decaf tea??? Shame on you! Room 31 is beautiful. Very large (strange shape) No bath which I was surprised about but the shower was a good size and you can take the head off for ā€˜intimate rinsingā€™ The towelling robes and matching slippers are a nice touch, they come in very handy for the outdoor sprint to and from the pool! The hotel grounds are stunning and the long drive up to the hotel is, well itā€™s just long. WiFi signal is very poor in the rooms and tv choices are somewhat limited so bring a good woman or a good book!

User

I stayed here with friends and we enjoyed afternoon tea and breakfast as part of our stay. The room was clean and well cared for (although as with most hotels the twin beds weren't really twins as they were pushed together and in one room the throw was a double). The hotel was busy but service was good especially at breakfast which was abundant and fresh. My only real quibbles were the sandwiches with the afternoon tea weren't terribly fresh and while the the website tells you about your Ā£10 per room to spend if you book direct but they don't make that easy to do, in fact it was nearly impossible! Would I visit again though? Yes, definitely!

User

We did not think it lived up to our expectations because the standard of service was more like a 3 star hotel - the bar was frequently unattended and we noticed several people coming to the bar and having to ask us if there was anyone on duty. There was a wedding so obviously staff were attending to the them but that should not be an excuse. With regard to the menu we were disappointed because although we expected small portions we found the food was not up to the standard which should be provided by a chef named as Jeremy Wares. Some items were unpalatable and cold - for example the cheese served in the desert menu was served straight out of the fridge and needed to thaw out for about an hour at room temperature to be enjoyable. I had to wrap mine in tissues to take to our room and place on the radiator to be palatable!! The whole place needs to have an overhaul because it is not as presentable as it should be as a four star standard. What a pity - it really was disappointing for my wife and I who had looked forward to spending a really nice weekend there. Expensive but poor value.

We attended a masquerade Christmas party. Rooms are fab, very spacious. Dinner was served a bit slow but not a big deal, gave us a chance to chat. Party night was brilliant DJ kept everyone on the dance floor and played a variety of music. Drinks are expensive which was to be expected. Only let down was breakfast. We stood for 10 minutes on the stairs before being seated, restaurant wasnā€™t overly busy but staff didnā€™t seem to be keeping an eye out for guests. Once seated we realised another couple from our group were in the next room. Spoke to a member of staff to see if we could sit with them... wasnā€™t a problem. Then overheard staff member moaning to another that we had moved. Ordered our hot breakfast (3 full breakfasts and 1 porridge) sat for approx 30mins waiting for it, a number of tables arrived and had been fed (and left), spoke to a member of staff who said ours was getting plated. Another 30 mins passed, and more tables arriving, eating and leaving, spoke to staff again who said they would find out what had happened, nobody came near us with an explanation. Eventually it arrived after over an hour. If we hadnā€™t been sitting chatting with other guests we wouldnā€™t have waited. Didnā€™t find breakfast staff very helpful at all and a big let down for the hotel. Facilities are ok, sauna and steam room werenā€™t very hot but was nice to sit and chill before the drive home. Pool was freezing. Grounds are absolutely beautiful, was lovely going for a wee walk.

User

Unfortunately stayed at much better hotels. Our room door didnā€™t double lock, no lock on bathroom door , the carpet needed a good clean. The was a broken glass just left at the garden path, dirty dishes left on tables. Went to the leisure club and no staff on the desk. Waited for ages and no one came. You need a band to enter the pool . Again their cafe area had a few dirty tables just left. Had to wait on the stairs to the dining room for 30mins + to get a little table for Saturday morning breakfast which was average. So to be honest for a MacDonald hotel - pretty poor guys

User

Lovely rooms and staff but restaurant was a real let down. I was expecting good things from a Michelin star chef but rather than Jeremy Wares more like Where's Jeremy...? It was nice food but nothing better than reasonable hotel food....

We had a group booking, and a lovely time at the spa was had by all. A sad ending when money went missing from a locked locker. A few issues were identified with them when we were there and have been highlighted in numerous contacts that I have had with the Spa. Reluctant apologies and failed contacts have ensured that I wonā€™t be returning or recommending. Being told we have posters up advising you are leaving your belongings at your own risk, is not a great answer to someone being able to access your locked locker !!

Just spent a night in this hotel with my best friend for my birthday. Found the staff to be very nice and polite however not very informative such as telling us where to go for our spa treatments or offering us towels and robes, we had to ask for these ourselves. We also weren`t told what time breakfast was at. My biggest complaint I have to highlight however was in the morning when we switched the radiator back on in our room within 20 mins it started to spark and there was a terrible burning smell. Luckily we were quick to turn it off. I could not understand at this point how the fire alarm did not go off. My friend and I had concerns the alarm was not working properly. The receptionist was apologetic about it but we felt the matter was not being taken seriously enough as this would have caused a fire very quickly and could have been worse had we left it on overnight. I was concerned for my friend who also happens to be six months pregnant. As a result of this, I'm not sure I would recommend this hotel.
