About Macgregor'S Community Hub

Great little village paper shop and Post Office situated on Killin's Main Street.

Macgregor'S Community Hub Description

MacGregor's Community Hub is a community-owned village shop and Post Office situated on the main street in Killin. . The shop moved in 2019 from it's origins at Morenish Place to the paper shop premises at Dreadnought Place, via a major fundraising effort, entitled "More than a Post Office". With funding from the Scottish Land Fund, Stirling Council, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Forth Valley and
Lomond Leader, some generous donations and a Crowdfunding page, Killin and Ardeonaig Trust purchased the building and now rent it out to MacGregor's Community Hub, a non-profit organisation, to run as a Community Shop, newsagents and Post office. keeping a central and vibrant part of the community, providing an outlet for the considerable number of skilled food producers and artisans in the area, hosting CAB surgeries and providing many other services.

Membership is available to all aged 16 years and over by the purchase of shares from ยฃ1.

The parcel !

We also have a car key on a Mercedes fob. This was found recently in the Kirk. Anyone lost a car key? One assumes it is for a Merc, but maybe not!!

One of the couriers was trying to deliver this parcel today. It has the name (Ms Sharron Keable) and then Main St, Killin, FK21 8UH, but no house name or number. The parcel is at the Post Office if anyone knows who it belongs to !

Did anyone get a magazine called "Airsoft" put through their letterbox recently by mistake? The paper boy definitely delivered it somewhere...but not to the right hoose........help!!

Hooray! At last the Post Office has managed to get this system up and running again. Huge thanks to oor Christian for liaising with them and doing the techy stuff at this end to configure the new router ๐Ÿ‘. Apparently it's the first time in the UK the Post Office has managed to use this method to sort a tricky connection๐Ÿคจ Better late than never!

The latest on the Post Office is that it is open, but subject to the system accessing a strong enough mobile phone signal.....If there's stormy weather or snow, or a phone mast goes down for some reason, the PO system fails. Even when it works is takes ages for it to connect (it's a "roaming" SIM so it's constantly looking for the strongest signal available) This is temporary until they can get the phone line upgraded, which might take 10 days.... Very frustrating for both us and you. Sincere apologies (on behalf of whatever PO Numpty omitted to check the system requirements for "remote rural location")๐Ÿง๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ‘น๐Ÿคฃ

The Post Office counter is open again...at last! Thanks for your patience :-)

Thank you so much to all the helpers the last couple of days; we achieved a huge amount! I'm scared to mention names in case I miss anyone oot! But it's amazing how a community can come together! I'm not good at asking for help, but a wee plea on FB this morning provided all the help we needed. We had Kay ferrying stuff doon to the paper shop, then doing a run to Strathyre PO to post parcels people needed to send. Val, Janet, Lesley and Theresa cleaning, mopping, painting a...nd clearing the old shop. Charlie, Angus, Christian and young Sam loading larger items onto the van. And latterly, by a bit of kerb crawling (!!), we recruited Dan and Willie to lift the awfy heavy stuff. Then there was oor stalwart Fee holding the fort at the paper shop, having to explain to folk aboot the PO no being functional. And last, but by no means least all the folk who popped in to offer support. And Lizzie, for bringing a radiator until the boiler is sorted! And Jock and Ellen for putting up with the burach! And Roberto Grant for zooming back from another job to sort a problem highlighted (wrongly) (by a PO engineer) . Robert was right; The man from Del PO wisny!
"The Man" fae the PO is coming up ramorra to see if he can sort the PO comms problem.
Getting there....:-)

If anyone has free time and energy, we could use some help clearing and cleaning the old shop! My back is jiggered...๐Ÿ˜

Oh, but on a positive note, the paper shop will be open tomorrow at the old paper shop building. It's not perfect yet, but it's functional! Most things are in place, but still a bit of sorting out to do. Huge thanks to everyone who's helped move things, clean, paint, man tills, drive trailers...and keep me calm! 32,000 footsteps so far today ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ƒ

Errr. OK. So, if you were responsible for establishing new Post Offices, would you (a) check that each location had the technology to support your computer system, or would you (b) just assume that all parts of the country have high speed, top notch broadband?? A no-brainer really.
However, some well paid eejit has gone ahead and ordered a new Post Office counter system for Killin that can't be connected up, as we don't have the technology here. Unbelievable! So, until they... figure out how to connect it up, we canny do any Post Office transactions: it's whit we Scots would call a "Burach". No point in getting frustrated though - nowt we can do. Well, you could email paula.vennells@postoffice.co.uk.and complain - be good to let them know we're pissed off. ๐Ÿ‘น.
In terms of what we can do: We'll arrange the community bus a few days a week to take folk to Strathyre PO. We'll look at the best way to help folk with returning parcels etc. Please let us know how we can help, if you can't get to another Post Office. We have wheels and we have volunteers, so please tell us how we can help. Any ideas welcome !
Really sorry about this, but it's oot of oor hands :-(

We're sorry things have not gone exactly according to the timetable set oot in the Killin News. We're nearly there though. If you've peeked through the paper shop window, you'll see that things are progressing. The Post Office are installing their equipment this week and early next week, so safes, alarms, security will all be done on time. At this point, it looks like the Post Office counter will close at its current, Morenish Place, location on Monday around 4pm. On Tuesday,... the PO counter will not be operational, unless you are doing debit/credit card transactions. We won't be able to do any cash transactions at the PO counter. THIS WILL NOT AFFECT THE SHOP OR NEWSPAPER SIDE OF THINGS. If you want to pay papers or buy groceries this is all OK. On Wednesday, the PO will move the Horizon system down to the new shop and hopefully we will be operational again by Weds afternoon, at latest Thursday morning.
So, to summarise. Next week:
Morenish Place.....Post office:
Monday open 9am until 4pm Tuesday Closed Weds - maybe open in the later afternoon Thurs - open assuming everything goes OK the day before Friday - normality resumes
Morenish Place ......Paper shop;
Monday - open as normal Tues - Open as normal Weds - Open as normal Thurs - probably back at News First premises (but please be prepared to adapt to changing circumstances. We're doing our best, but it's no straightforward)
Friday. Whatever else happens, we will no longer be at Morenish Place. Hopefully we will officially open the PO at 1pm
Phew!
