The Kintyre Team Challenge was played this weekend in near ideal conditions, which was reflected in the scoring at the sharp end. The team of Jamie Campbell, Kenny Semple, Jennifer Owen and Jim Clark amassed a 3 round singles total of 110 points today at Machrihanish Dunes, to add to their pairs scores of 51 and 42 from yesterday. This was good enough to secure a 9 point victory over the 2nd placed team of Alan O'Neill, Eric Dunlea, George McMillan and Trevor Wignall, who won... the prize for the best mens team ahead of John Nutt, Archie McGuire, Jonathan Bruce and Stewart Litster. The mixed/ladies division was won by Jamie Robertson, Alan Robertson, Craig and Lyndsay Ramsay, who were followed home in second place by Anne Laing, Marion Mason, Donna Jackson and Lesley Lloyd. Marion also won nearest the pin at the 5th hole. Many thanks to our friends at Dunaverty for co-hosting this event with us once again, to Jamie Robertson for doing the scoring, to Lorna for acting as starter on both days and all the staff at both clubs for ensuring that this competition was a success once again.

The Mach Dunes am-am attracted a huge field of 31 teams to the links today, with the team of Raymond Harvey, John Marrison, John Brown and Danny Halliday retaining the title they won last year. Sean O' Conner's team from Dumbarton golf club ran the defending champions so close we needed a countback to separate them, with the team of Stephen Kelly, David Rankin, Stewart Campbell and Darren Kelly finishing third. Alistair O'May and Eric Dunlea won the nearest the pin prizes. We... at Mach Dunes would like to sincerely thank our sponsors Glen Scotia for their continued support of this event, and would also like to thank Jamie Robertson for his help with the scoring, Lorna and Peter for looking after everybody in the golf house and to Jock for welcoming everybody to the 1st tee. Lastly, thanks to all the competitors who turned up to make this a great event, we'll hopefully see you all in two weeks for the Kintyre team challenge.

We haven't even got to our first competition of the year yet and we're already thinking about the next one. The scoreboard is ready for the Kintyre team challenge, the question is are you? There are only two pages made up so far, but I'd be only too pleased to draw up a third! "People say you can experience all four seasons in one day here on the west coast. But it's beautiful and gives golf courses their character. Playing against the elements is part of the challenge."

If you've taken a stroll along our scenic shoreline, it'll come as no surprise to you that Machrihanish Bay has been named the UK's 2nd Best Beach of the Year in the BBC Countryfile Magazine 2019 Awards! More than 30,000 votes were cast by the public to recognise the very best of the British countryside, and we're proud that our wee corner of Scotland was included.

fantastic course in great condition. made to feel really welcome as soon as we arrived. Peter will take you to first hole and tell you the lay of the land.

played the course twice in 2 days.

stunning scenery as runs right down the Atlantic coast.

awesome greens on every hole and dont think there is one completely flat.

stayed at ugadale cottages which were also stunning.

highly recommend a trip to play this course

User

We (Group of 4) had the immense pleasure of playing here over the Nov18/19th weekend in the extremes of West Coast weather.. and LOVED it.

What a course. High winds on the Saturday and Flat calm on the Sunday made it feel like two different but equally fantastic places.

A backdrop of the West Coast ‘Whisky’ Islands and flawless beaches made these undulating Dunes something seriously special.

Staff were friendly, helpful and had a great sense of humour. An advantage when we pulled up!

Collectively we are fortunate to be members of Dundonald Links, Troon Portland and Turnberry Golf Clubs and large portions of this track eclipse even those titans. That goes some way to describing it for those yet to enjoy it, and I suggest you do.

Staying for two nights at the Ugdale Cottages (Machrahanish) they provided a perfect (self-catering) base for a family or group right on the seafront.

The adjacent Ugdale hotel is a lovely place with friendly staff and we took advantage of the weekend Steak Deals for dinner and couldn’t fault it.

The only negative to this trip is the drive (for us, from Troon) Appx 3hrs45mins which seems a lot, and it is, but when you pass through this part of the world there is little not to like out the windows.

It is best summarised by the fact that not only are we making this at least an annual visit, but we took the membership forms for the Golf course and are currently looking at the earliest available sailings from Ardrossan/Arran so we can come back as soon as possible. Says it all really.

User

Very friendly staff and starter. Course in good nick for time of year. Look forward to return trip. Some great holes.

User

Tough 9 mile hike! Bring your best climbing shoes and a tolerant attitude for this challenge‼️

User

Played the autumn pairs yesterday in what can only be described as typical links weather which I must admit I didn't mind as it made it all the more exciting & challenging,, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who would relish the challenge of a links course... I will definitely be back

User

Played in glorious sunshine and enjoyed the stunning views throughout. The course was in fantastic condition, particularly the greens which were very fast. Some stunning holes which really test your imagination from 100 yards in.

The back 9 was tough into the wind and the last 2 holes are tough if you don't know your way!

Woukd definitely go back

Thanks to Jock for his words of advice beforehand too.

User

Outstanding piece of links ground, only going to get even better as course matures; Long but doesn't feel like a long course ,and stunning views across the water ,added to manicured undulating greens a most enjoyable experience

User

Fantastic track, great condition and outstanding service from the team at Mach Dunes. Similarly really enjoyed the experience playing Mach Golf Course as well. Well worth the trip.

User

Fantastic course in amazing part of the world. True links golf at its finest. When the wind blows a real test and still a challenge if the conditions are more sedate. If the weather is good the views are absolutely amazing. We played 2 days consecutively via the brilliant Bunkered Magazine deal and it was brilliant value for money. Stayed in the Ugadale Hotel - also fabulous. Will definitely be back again next year!

User

Fantastic course and great staff :)

Crazy golf on a large scale with lots of blind greens and tee shots but not too punitive to the slightly wayward. Very challenging, rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable course.
