The good:

I ordered two wedding rings in the shop which were lovely. My fiancée’s ring was the wrong size when it arrived but they altered it quite quickly and we got them in plenty of time for the wedding. The rings were very cheap: approx. £1,300 for platinum rings; and my fiancée’s ring had diamonds too. I also ordered two engraved tankards for my best men. The shop assistance (Nicole) was very helpful and arranged delivery quickly for me to pick up.

The bad:

I received an email on the day I was supposed to pick the tankards up to say the tankards were the same price but the engraving would be 400% the price I was quoted. That was very frustrating, given that I’d sent the wording to be engraved in advance and no one had mentioned an increase in price. Overall the price had more than doubled.

When I turned up to pick up the tankards, not only were they significantly more expensive but the wording wasn’t engraved on the tankards as I’d asked. The issue was the machine couldn’t do what I asked but again no one had mentioned to me that it would be different after I sent the wording.

So basically the engraved tankards were more than double the price I had been quoted and not what I’d asked for. They did offer to reduce the price of the engraving to the “cost price” but they refused to honour the original amount they quoted despite the fact the issue arose from their lack of communication.

The ugly:

The business owner (Mr Stephen Turner) told me I could pay for the tankards or “leave”. I phoned my fiancée to discuss what we should do and while on the phone I was told I had to make a decision immediately or I would be asked to leave the shop. Not only that but my deposit was not refundable. I feel that is a disgustingly rude attitude for a business owner, particularly when they wanted to charge nearly double the quoted price for something that does not match what I ordered. He wasn’t willing to honour the original price they quoted for the engraving on the tankards. He was actually squabbling over about £30 after I had already spent over £1,300 in their shop on rings!

I thought long about the number of stars to give MacIntryre's. I was going to give them one star but changed my mind because there were some good things about the service:

1. Nicole was very helpful, as was another lady in the shop whose name I never caught (although I think she was also the business owner but didn’t want to say that to me). They were also both lovely when I was obviously quite frustrated with the tankard issue.

2. The rings and the tankards are lovely. Even though the engraving is not what I asked for they are very nice.

3. The shop is very cheap. So if you are looking for a good deal it is worth considering them.

I would probably have given them a 5 star review if they would have honoured the original price they quoted. The main problem is with Mr Turner. Personally, I will never shop there again and I will be positing in every wedding forum to make sure everyone knows how Mr Turner will treat you when things go wrong. I’m sure if things go well you’ll be very happy with the prices though.

Can't have gotten a more helpful, attentive and knowledgeable assistant (Nicole). No pressure (unlike other places). Great range. Value for money is excellent. Really, really helpful and takes soo much of the stress away. Plus their 'after service' sounds excellent (still to be used).

I can't recommend them enough. Very helpful, well organized, great prices. They're actually nice to you when you go in the shop, which plenty of upmarket-type shops aren't!

When we got the engagement ring and it didn't quite fit the finger, they resized it at no cost (which was quite something as it was 'tension-set' and therefore took a bit of effort).

Top stuff.
