🐹 This scrumptious little hammy is Nutmeg!🐹
Nutmeg is a beautiful Syrian hamster owned by ten year old Louisa; who is proving to be a very dedicated and responsible owner!
Louisa popped into the practice a few weeks ago to seek some advice on how to look after her hamster and now Nutmeg will happily take a treat (her favourite is cucumber!) from her owner's hand and run up into her arms 😍 #syrianhamster

This special little boy is Geiger, in May he had a stay as an in-patient in the ward here at Mackie and Brechin Ltd where he was critically ill with a condition called a pyothorax. This affected his breathing and made him feel very unwell. During his stay he received intensive care from both vets and nurses and his owner visited as often as she could. Geiger was then transferred to the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies for further treatment.
Thankfully he has made a full recovery! 🎉We received a lovely update from his owner to say that he is gaining weight and getting back to his favourite pastime of napping during the day! 😴🐈 Thank you to Geiger's owner for the lovely pictures 💗

There is a parasite known as crenosoma vulpis (fox lungworm) that lives in the airways of infected dogs and foxes. It is caught from ingesting infected slugs and snails. Fox lungworm can be treated with a preventative spot-on treatment available from us.

Thankfully he was caught in the in the act and was able to be given medication to make him sick 🤢 and prevent any further harm. Cody is recovering in the ward today with lot of fuss from everyone! ♥

Would like to thank Geoff and all the team for their fantastic professional service while my 7 year old chocolate labrador underwent cruciate operation and recovery, cannot thank them enough, very informative on what was to happen and what to do regarding rehabilitation, will certainly be recommending, thanks again :-)

User

When my puppy was really ill I took her to this vet and they were very professional, diagnosed her problem in days. She has just been in for her wee op and she was great back to her old self within days, I feel they done a great job you can hardly notice her scar. The reception staff are very helpful and friendly, I would recommend this vet to everyone

User

When my dog Sammi became ill last year they were absolutely fantastic and got her back to good health, unfortunately a few months later she became ill again and we (my partner and I) made the decision to send her to doggy heaven (she was 13) the whole staff were fantastic and gave so much support and compassion we could not THANK them enough. Would definitely recommend.

User

We've been coming to this vets for years now and wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff are all very kind and caring towards owners and the pets. Recently one of your dogs was put down and they came out to the house and were very respectful over the situation and even allowing us time alone with her after to say our final farewells. Not long after we even received a lovely card offering their condolences and even hoping that our other dogs were okay without her.

Now the newest dog in our family goes here and I was nervous at first to take him as he can be a bit reactive at times but they made him feel very at ease and he was happy with all the attention the vet gave him

I would definitely recommend anyone with pets to go here.

User

We have been through so much in the last ten months with our beautiful pippa. All of the vets, nurses and reception staff have been more than fantastic with us and it has really helped us get through such a difficult time. Without the amazing dedication and support of the team, pippa would not have had the treatment and love that she still needs. Our special thanks to Geoff, Niall, Anna, Danielle, Lynn, Laura, becca, Kim, Stacey, Norma.

User

They are very helpful and make your pets as comfortable as they can be , wonderful staff

User

The care that Simon and the whole team took with Lucy was absolutely exemplary. Every step of the way from the initial phone call, through to the advice on the possible options and the eventual surgery and after care it was abundantly clear that the whole team took a real interest in her welfare, and had the expertise to deliver the best possible care. She's making a good recovery now and we can't thank you enough.

User

User

Thanks for looking after Oscar - he is desperate to get out

User

Thank you so much for the thoughtful sympathy card you sent out to us and also for the forget me not seeds, such a lovely touch I will plant these in memory of Jake. Thank you. X

User

Thank you so much for all your help in getting Breeze out of the UK and into Australia. A huge thanks as there was an enormous amount of paperwork for you to complete. Highly recommend M&B - been brilliant with all my animals.

User

Spotted a lump on Vito, less than 24hrs later the vet had a look and it's sounding good - just keep an eye out. The vet and nurse in Linlithgow were amazing, Vito was being crazy and barking out the windows at pedestrians; they didn't get huffy with him or look miserable at all. It turned a really stressful situation into a hopeful one, with new procedures to improve his mobility etc. Vito doesn't have a good history with vets and this has been the best one in too long. We're looking forward to meeting the bones vet and getting old Gomez (the cat) a check up. We don't want to be at the vets regularly but if necessary we will use this one. Even with a big needle in the neck, Vito was as calm as I could have hoped. I probably asked about a 100 questions but didn't feel hurried or like I was speaking with a sales person.

User

Myself and my husband have been using Mackie and brechins vet for nearly 14 yrs, and his parents for years before this. Never have we put so much Faith in a vets. Always full of advice, help, and always have the animals best interests in mind. We have just had to say Goodbye to our first dog as a married couple. He was our baby and nearing 14 we'd had him a long time. We felt supported, and comforted and feel that Marley couldn't have been any better treated by a vets throughout his life but most importantly in his final few hours. To top this off we received a very touching handwritten card from the surgery. Thanks to all <3

User

My puppy Barkley and I receive such a warm welcome every time we visit. The team are extremely professional, but also very friendly. For a new dog owner with lots of questions, they have such patience that you feel that nothing would be a problem. Barkley genuinely loves his visits as he always gets hugs and of course that all important treat! Mackie and Brechin were recommended to me and I would have no hesitation in passing on my high recommendation.

User

Met the lovely Catherine this morning. Thanks for being so patient with Sonic and making this the most relaxed visit he has had since he was 6 months old. Didn’t even need to put his muzzle on.

User

Massive thank you to Simon at Mackie and Brechin vets who has done a wonderful job of stapling my poor horses face back together! Fantastic vets!

User

Just wanted to say a massive "thank you" to Iain for making a very difficult day that little bit easier. Had to have my beautiful boy Gizmo (horse) put to sleep today at 30 years young. I have had him with M&B the whole 21 years I've had him and Iain has been there for the majority of that. In fact Giz has been on the books since he was 4!!! Iain was brilliant with him as per usual and i really respect him for being honest when there wasn't really much else we could do for Giz apart from major surgery with a slim chance of that working. End of an era!! Thank you so much Iain - you really are a credit to the practice xx

User

I cannot recommend Mackie & Brechin highly enough.

Our dog, Mabel, has a whole host of allergies and everyone (vets and receptionists!) has been outstanding with her (and us) during diagnosis and treatment. All avenues were explored before trying her current treatment and everyone has been so patient and helpful with our endless questions, phone calls and visits.

The whole team are so friendly, highly professional and genuinely care for your pet.

Couldn't ask for better care - thank you so much!

User

User

5 stars are not enough - simply the best surgery I know!! Super friendly staff with excellent knowledge and interpersonal skills, no matter if minor things or serious emergency cases. Thumbs up M&B-Team, I'm glad my dogs are in the best place!!!

User

Was given LARGE DOG flea drops for a small cat.

User

This vets needs to be ashamed of itself after allowing a dog to bleed to death. Ring up asking for help as the dogs lying with blood coming out his back passage & mouth they say sorry can't help cause the animal isn't registered at our practise so the dog dies at home bleeding to death. Hope you all feel very proud of yourselves absolutely disgusted!!! Call yourself vets that's an understatement.

User

This Vet should be shut down! Causing a poor dog to loose one of its eye's because one of the surgeons neglect!
