Maggie Dicksons

We visited on a Saturday night with a football game on the television, so conversation was pretty much impossible. But the food (I had steak and al pie and a Caledonia’s Best lager) was great. The staff were friendly and did not ignore us, as employees did in the other two pubs we visited first. The doorman noticed us hesitating outside and invited us in, advising us to tell the bartender we wanted food so we would get a table. Very pleasant experience.

The chicken & cheese nachos are amazing! And huge!! And the wait staff is super friendly.

User

Lovely staff and very friendly. Went to watch the Scotland VS England rugby game and was packed but no struggle to get served. Toilets could do with updating as seats were hanging off but overall experience was great 😊

User

Lovely food. Service quick and friendly.

Just wandered along the grass market on my hen do and we heard the music... stayed all night and had a blast! Lovely staff and great musicians! Good last night in Edinburgh!

User

Great service - split a big table for us. Nice food too

User

Great history attached to the name if the pub.

It would be good if they added a bit of Maggies history to this page. There are many tourists and foreign students in Edinburgh that may well visit the pub if they knew the history of Maggie.

Makes good business sense!!!

Good food and great service by a friendly staff.

2nd visit, haven’t been here in a couple years. Still great food and the staff was very good

User

I was visiting Edinburgh with my boyfriend to enjoy the Festival & fab weather. We both had burgers which were delicious & cooked to perfection. Being able to sit outside, soak up the atmosphere & enjoy the weather was the icing on the cake. Excellent value for money.

The staff and atmosphere are wonderful - but unfortunately the food is sub par - may not be true for all of it but the "sticky bbq chicken wings" were very spicy with no mention of heat on the menu - I don't like spicy food. And the traditional sausage stovies and lamb shank were straight from freezer to microwave (from what I can tell)

As I said - lovely pub with lovely staff, but I wouldn't eat here again xx

Visited on a stag do from Durham. Had no issues until we got here.

Manager was an anti English pig whose attitude could quite easily have started major trouble had his comments been made to the wrong group. If you are English visiting Edinburgh then keep away from here.

Think this pub obviously can’t handle being busy with festival being on - also lots of seating outside so if you were inside then totally forgotten about!! Ordered a vodka & Coke & it was totally flat juice so asked for replacement only for that to be flat too! Once I got my food which consisted of steak pie, potatoes & green beans - the beans were freezing cold ...not even like they had been cooked then gone cold ...more like straight from fridge to plate! Totally unacceptable. Got them heated up but couple next to us told us the same thing had happened to them! Hang the chef ..one mistake maybe but to do it twice within a matter of minutes , totally outrageous- will not be back.

User

Shocking service, rude staff, hated it

I’m not one for posting bad reviews. But this place deserves one.

I was in the Grassmarket today enjoying the beautiful weather with some family and friends so we decided to get some food outside in the sunshine but I was refused entry to the outdoor eating area as I had my 8 month old baby with me! I was told because my daughter would not be ordering food we were not allowed to bring her in. I was appalled by this and felt discriminated against. We were welcomed by Biddy Mulligans and the Black Bull and will not be going or attempt to go to Maggie Dicksons again.

I thoroughly enjoyed joining six friends at this pub today and requesting a shot of rum when my boyfriend accidentally ordered me a ginger beer without it. I was told I couldn't order it as I wasn't eating, whilst I was holding a food menu (that I had to get myself) hoping to grab a quick snack after my friends had already spent £80 I didn't think they'd mind. That was not ok and I was told I could order the rum if I immediately decided what I wanted to eat rather then getting to sit down to check the menu first. In the end I awkwardly enjoyed my ginger beer with no rum and guess I'll have to eat elsewhere.

User

Cold food and person sitting next to us said theirs was the same! Hang the chef! Gonna get a bad name with cooking like that
