Mama Gives Light

About Mama Gives Light

Birth & Postnatal Doula. Pregnancy yoga and postnatal yoga services in Edinburgh to support you and encourage you to have a positive, calm and beautiful birth experience, regardless of how it happens.

Mama Gives Light Description

Welcome to mama gives light! My name is Marcela and I'm a mum of two, a Doula, and a Pregnancy and Postnatal yoga teacher based in Edinburgh.

Mama gives light was created after the birth of my first baby. After a long career in environment and sustainability, I decided to retrain as a doula and as a yoga teacher. I strongly believe that the way in which babies are born has a huge impact on their future life, and the life of our planet as a whole. A positive and calm birth is what I wish for all my clients and students.

I support women and share their journeys towards a positive pregnancy and birth experience, where they can feel continuously supported, explore the amazing benefits of yoga, and of living a balanced, healthy and sustainable lifestyle during and after pregnancy.

This is a space to support mums and their partners during their pregnancy and birth journey.
I am here for you: As your doula, by connecting with you, listening to you and helping you find what you consider the best decisions for you and for your family. As your yoga teacher, by practising with you and helping you discover and enjoy the countless benefits that it will bring to your mind and body during, after and beyond pregnancy.

I currently offer Doula support packages, private and one to one pregnancy and postnatal yoga classes. Get in touch!

"Set your mind free to wander anywhere it wants. Think any thought, Ride any wave, surge in any direction. . The instant a thought springs up,... Abandon it and move on. Don’t let the mind rest anywhere. . In this way, gain entry to the bliss Of the silent depths beneath the surf." - The Radiance Sutras . 📷: @abiponcehardy . #mamagiveslight #yogabreath #myyogapractice #radiancesutras #garundasana #yogasutras #mindfulness #staypresent #motherhood #mumlife #mother #mama #edinburghyoga #yogateacher #maternidad #yogini #yogimama #yogamama #seventhseries

I'm thrilled to announce that from April onwards, I will be facilitating a peer support group for parents of premature babies. This is something that I have been planning for the past three and a half years, after my first baby was born prematurely. There is such a need for a group like this in Edinburgh and the wonderful Calm on Canning Street are kindly letting us use their space to make it happen. Parents of preemies, I hope to see you there 💜

I'm blown away and full of gratitude by the amazing response that the Yoga for Midwives community workshop has had! It has fully booked in less than 24 hours! If you are interested please do message me or email me as I will have a waiting list and if I organise it again in the future, those on the waiting list will have priority.
In the meantime, if you want to support this cause, 'sponsor a midwife' by donating to the Just Giving page of the event to support SiMBA, Simpson's Memory Box Appeal.

I'm very excited to announce that I will be teaching a free yoga workshop for midwives at the beautiful Calm on Canning Street on the 29th March! Spaces are limited so if you are a midwife do get in touch! 🧘‍♀️❤️
Donations are welcome however and they will all go to support SiMBA, Simpson's Memory Box Appeal who do a wonderful job supporting families who have experienced the loss of a baby. Even if you aren't planning to attend the workshop you can donate via the Just Giving Page (link on the event page).

"I have really enjoyed all of your classes... you create such a warm and positive atmosphere." 🕉️ My beautiful student Sarah gave me this gorgeous handmade card last week when she came to her last antenatal yoga class at Pilates Plus Physio before having her baby. Congratulations Sarah on the birth of your gorgeous baby girl! 💖 🕉️ I feel so humbled when I receive such kind feedback from my students, for doing what I love and what makes me happy. It is such an honour to play a... very small role in supporting you mamas during your pregnancies. Many of you from early on and until your babies are born. 🕉️ Thank you mamitas lindas. Om Shanti. 🙏

If you come to mu Pregnancy Yoga classes, then you have probably heard me talk about Hypnobirthing and the positive impact that it has on embracing your birth experience, however it goes.
Gem Nealon from Positive Birth Scotland: Edinburgh Hypnobirthing & birth preparation has been my mentor since I became a doula. And the reason I chose to work with her as my mentor was the fact that we share the same approach in supporting parents to be on having a positive birth experience, whatever the type of birth, whatever the eventualities and whatever the deviations from the birth 'plan'.
Gemma's workshops fully book quickly so get in touch with her soon if you would like to attend one of them. ❤️❤️

They say there's a certain sparkle in the eyes of a pregnant woman. And that your facial expression changes forever once you become a mother. ✨🤰💖🙏
This photo was taken for a photoshoot when I was teaching at the beautiful Yoga's Got Hot. I had just found out that I was pregnant with my second child a couple of days before that.
Almost a year after his birth, I look back at this photo and I can still see that sparkle. That brightness that my babies have brought to my life by giving me the huge honour of choosing me as their mother.

I attended this wonderful study day that my teacher Judy Cameron organised on behalf of YogaBirth. Every time I attend one of these study days and workshops, I get so much more insight and perspective of what it is to work supporting women and their families during pregnancy, birth and postnatally. It is also such a wonderful opportunity to catch up with dear colleagues: yoga teachers, doulas, midwives. My heart is happy and so very grateful for having this amazing network of women around me. ❤️

Mamas, a few of you have asked me about my mum & baby yoga classes, which at the moment I'm not teaching. In the meantime I can really recommend Emma's classes who have recently started at the gorgeous Calm on Canning Street where I teach pregnancy yoga. Get in touch with Emma for booking! x

Finland will give parents 14 months shared parental leave. We still have so much to learn from Scandinavian countries.

My amazing teachers Liliana Lammers and Michel Odent are hosting their doula training in London later this year. If you are considering studying with them do so! You will not regret it. ❤️
