Hyundai Motor Group announced development of ‘smartphone-electric vehicle pairing based performance adjustment technology,’ which allows users to customise primary functions through a smartphone application – an industry-first innovation.
Drivers can use this technology to adjust seven performance features including the maximum torque output of the motor, ignition, acceleration and deceleration abilities, regenerative braking capacity, maximum speed limit, responsiveness, an...d energy use on climate control.
As electric vehicles continually expand their market share, especially in rental or car-sharing industries, the new technology will allow drivers to use their custom settings in whichever electric vehicle they drive by downloading their profile from the server.
The application provides optimised settings for a designated destination by analysing the remaining distance and electric energy requirement. It can also accommodate sportier driving by recommending tailored performance settings.
Beyond the driver’s seat, users can share their customisation settings online as well as try out other users’ custom settings. Customers can also apply recommended settings by the brands based on the condition of roads, from country roads to the city center or mountain ranges.
Hyundai Motor Group will utilise blockchain technology to prevent security issues while users upload and share their custom settings on the server.
In the process of uploading and sharing custom settings, the system encrypts major performance parameters in a blockchain network by creating new data blocks and stores them in the distributed data storage system to block unauthorised manipulation.
Hyundai Motor Group’s ‘smartphone vehicle pairing-based performance adjustment technology’ is possible due to electric vehicles’ distinctive properties which set them apart from combustion engine vehicles.
Zero-emission vehicles offer unique freedom to modify the drive experience because altering performance doesn’t change the carbon footprint. As such, electric vehicles provide drivers more leeway in applying such technology.
“As Hyundai Motor Group is planning to deploy 44 eco-friendly models by year 2025, including 23 electric vehicles, we see the potential of technologies and services inherent in non-combustion vehicles,” said research fellow JeongSoo Eo from Hyundai Motor Group. “By developing paradigm-shifting mobility technology like this one, we will continue to strive to improve user experience for electric vehicles customised to individual preferences.”
The technology is expected to be implemented in future Kia and Hyundai vehicles.

As lights went off at night across Seoul landmarks in celebration of Earth Day 2019, darkening the glitzy, gleaming South Korean capital, the Seoul Metropolitan Library lit up brightly with projections powered by hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, the Hyundai NEXOs.
Undulating footages highlighting the whole water-electrolysis cycle -- water turning into hydrogen and oxygen, then to kinetic energy, and finally back to water -- were beamed onto the building facade using fiv...

Busy Brits will only take their children on seven family days out this year - with the seaside the top destination, according to new research.
Hectic lifestyles, not being able to get the same time off as the other half, and money issues are putting the brakes on the number of ‘daycations’ they are able to take.
The survey of 2,000 adults revealed that on average, parents spend around £700 and covering 300 miles on the seven big days out.

Once a simple means of transport to get from one place to another, the concept of a vehicle is rapidly changing by intertwining the boundaries between our lives and automobiles. At Milan Design Week, under the banner ‘STYLE SET FREE,’ #Hyundai will highlight its innovative vision for how vehicles will become individual living spaces.
At Milan Design Week, Hyundai presents a personal, interactive multi-sensory exhibition of light, colour, form, sound and material. Hyundai offe...rs a future-oriented customer experience vision that enables people to create their own life space inside their vehicles, thanks to upgradeable products and services. After all, we personalise our living spaces with various gadgets and technologies. Soon, we will personalise our vehicles too.
With STYLE SET FREE, Hyundai demonstrates the need to create the “perfect space.” The question of what form it will take is left to people to decide using their preference.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is the “Sculpture,” an artful interpretation of STYLE SET FREE. The constantly-changing, creative and gripping mapping installation illustrates three key interior elements of Hyundai’s new brand experience: Colour & Light, Material and Shape & Sound.
Each of these elements is brought to life by high-quality, digitally animated graphics in a twelve-minute visual display, as well as a series of interactive installations.
For the first time in Milan, the company also introduces a guided audio service at http://hyundai.guide, which is an online docent program for the exhibition. http://hyundai.guide will be featured at future Hyundai events.
“‘STYLE SET FREE’ by Hyundai aims to provide a unique in-car experience that no other automakers have offered so far, but one that customers have been looking for,” said Wonhong Cho, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai Motor Company. “The exhibition will introduce upcoming changes in mobility to a wider audience.”
In addition, Hyundai hosts a panel discussion with influential experts in the field of design.
On April 9, Hyundai organises a panel discussion on creating quality connections through design at Milan Design Week, collaborating with global media brand Monocle. The panellists include Monocle’s editor-in-chief Tyler Brûlé, landscape architect and urbanist Winy Maas, world-renowned lifestyle and trend specialist Li Edelkoort and car designer SangYup Lee.
Hyundai Motor Company participates in this year’s Milan Design Week from April 9-14 at Opificio 31.
