Ladies and Gentlemen - Materialise is moving out of Lady Lawson Street...we're real sorry to be leaving our gorgeous little pad, but will continue to offer 1:1 lessons, group workshops and parties in the comfort of your own home or in a central Edinburgh venue until we find some new accommodation.
We are running two sewing schools next week - one for youngsters and one for adults. Both run for 3-4 hours during the day, Monday to Friday and aim to give you confidence to do your own thing, either using a bought pattern or making your own pattern. The youngsters will learn from scratch, while adults should already know the basics of a sewing machine. This is an amazing way to learn fast with experienced and über talented designers. Design your own custom-fitted pattern block - our Skirt Block Pattern Cutting Course Part 1 on Saturday 7th June will show you exactly how to do this. Then Part 2 on Sunday 8th June shows you how to adapt your unique block to create loads of different styles.
Part 1 covers how to take your own measurements, draft a basic a-line skirt pattern, sew a calico toile of your skirt to check the size and fit and finally make any alterations required on your pattern.
You'll then be r...eady to move on to Part 2 where you can learn how to modify your skirt pattern for different styles. Add, remove and relocate darts, draft a yoke, vary the fullness, and sew another calico toile to check the size and fit.
And voila, you're ready to design your own skirts and never have to buy another pattern again. Happy days. Book now, limited places available.
