In a change from our normal Tuesday evening training, members of Melness Coastguard did a beach clean at Coldbackie beach, Scullomie and on the Kyle of Tongue. This is some of the rubbish that was collected 🙄
Thanks to all the team for volunteering for this and to the Highland Council for providing bags and gloves and taking away the rubbish.

Facebook posts. - We have been asked a lot recently why we have obviously been out on a rescue but yet nothing is appearing here on our Facebook account.
Its pretty simple really, sometimes its simply not appropriate to post anything at all on social media relating to the tasking we have received. We value peoples privacy first and foremost but will where appropriate post news here of what we have been up to :)
Thanks for all your continued support and as always if you see someone in trouble at the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Coastguard Rescue teams from Melness and Durness were tasked to a whale, possibly stranded, at Loch Eriboll at 12.30pm, on Wednesday 2nd January. Once located, we requested assistance from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), as they are the organisation who deal with stranded marine animals. Coastguard teams remained on scene throughout Wednesday and Thursday with the primary aim of ensuring the safety of those gathered to watch the whale. The BDMLR disentangl...ment team were on scene today, Friday, and conducted searches of the loch, along with the police and SSPCA. We understand no sign of the whale was found.
Many thanks to all concerned and a particular thanks to the local community from laid, Durness, for providing hot drinks etc to all involved.
As always, if you see anyone in trouble at the coast, please dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
