About Melville Inn
The Melville Inn is a welcoming country pub right in the heart of midlothian. We serve wonderful food every day and there is always service with a smile
Melville Inn Description
Melville Castle sits to the south of the Inn. This three-storey gothic styled castellated house has recently been restored. It replaced an earlier tower house built by Henry Dundas, the first Viscount Melville. A mile to the east of the Melville Inn are ancient fortification mounds known as Sheriff's Hall where there has long stood an old house in which George Buchanan is said to have written the "History of Scotland".
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

We booked a table for 8 online and recieved a confirmation email for our booking of our boxing day meal, the staff where very friendly and where very nice to our 2 kids (very energetic 7&3 year olds) the food was superb everyone enjoyed all 3 courses the attention to detail was superb we would recommend it to anyone and we will definitely be back again.
Just had a fantastic morning at the Breakfast with Santa with our 8 year old and 1 year old. Lots of crafts and activities to keep the kids entertained, a lovely breakfast for them and Santa was fantastic. Tea, coffee and bacon rolls for parents too. Lovely place, friendly and helpful staff and great way to spend a morning in the run up to Christmas. X
Congratulations to the staff, we where made very welcomed straight away. My partner had the chicken pie which she enjoyed, I myself had the steak which was beautiful done, too finish it off the deserts was so delicious, I had the apple pie and my partner had the chocolate brownie. A special thanks to the chef's for the wonderful food, I definitely will be back
Had lunch with my daughter and her boyfriend, we sat in the garden with our dog, setting is very nice, staff were great and food was good, will definitely be back.
TBH the food is at best very average and given the proximity of the sun inn and the paper mill to the Melville they really need to be better! Good for a drink but go to the aforementioned for food.
Couldn't get in to Elginhaugh as it was full.... easily got into Melville instead... there's a reason for that as the food was distinctly underwhelming. Staff and service were good though.
Booked a table for people on saturday we took our uncle for his 90th birthday ,3 of us ordered the pie 2 chicken 1 steak ! 2 steak 1 chicken arrives got that sorted the 2 chicken pies looked undercooked the pastry was pale looking and the chicken was tough the steak pie was not much better ,the girl came over to the table to ask if everything was ok and we complained about the pies she said we should have brought it to her attention sooner we asked to speak to a manager the duty manager came over and was full of apoligies and said he would adjust the bill that is all very well but it spoiled the night . We left very annoyed have sent a feedback e-mail but have ot had a reply .
Was told 20 mins wait for food when seated. Waited 40 minutes to order food! Another 25 minutes before the food came. Kids roast dinner sent back as it was cold. Hunters chicken was tough and chewy so sent back. Steak sent back TWICE as it was ordered as well done and each time was bleeding over the plate. Kids chicken was ridiculously small as was the kids roast beef. Topped off with being charged 2.50 for 4 asparagus spears. Disappointing :-(
Very disappointed to arrive at 11.30am to find The Melville Inn closed. The website states that it opens at 11am so we travelled 30 mins to get here for an early lunch. We've had great meals here in the past so we're disappointed in today's experience . Met other customers outside who were equally unhappy. Great shame!
