About Men'S 10K

The Men’s 10K is a fun and proactive way to engage men in Scotland in healthy physical activity and to promote health and well being all year round.

Men'S 10K Description

The Men’s 10K is a fun and proactive way to engage men in Scotland in healthy physical activity and to promote health and well being all year round.

It’s now a major event on both the running and health event calendars, attracting 4, 000 men and growing each year!

Consistently, each year, around 40% of the men taking part have NEVER entered a running event before and we intentionally promote the event to men who are new to physical activity or have been inactive for a while.

It was great to catch up with Ryan Watt at the finish line on Sunday.
Ryan was running for SAMH, a challenge which was particularly meaningful on #FathersDay as he remembered his Dad who passed away from respiratory failure a few days before Father's Day last year.

Martin Kilcoyne’s 10K run yesterday for Cancer Research UK was an emotional one.
Martin explained: “Last year my father was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer and he had multiple tumours which had spread rapidly.
He had a brain tumour which had to be operated on. But a successful operation and a few months of good treatment eventually stalled and the tumours started to grow back.
... While on a break from his treatment down in London, he suffered a large stroke that led to him being left unable to communicate or get out of his bed and doctors had no option but to end his treatment.
He was taken home for end of life care at the start of November and passed away around a week after getting home.
My brother and I decided that it would be a fitting tribute to our father to run the Men’s 10K for CRUK on Father’s Day in his memory.

Another incredible story from today's Men's 10K comes from the truly inspirational Alan Taylor.
Alan’s journey began on 1st April 2010 when he underwent a life saving leg amputation.
In the ensuing years, Alan suffered a heart attack and had a double bypass. Incredibly, in December of 2016 Alan then got an infection in his other leg which was again operated on and amputated.
... On top of his own health complications, Alan lost his best friend Jim to cancer after his first leg amputation and took part today in a T-shirt with Jim’s photo printed on the back.
Alan said:
“Losing my legs made me even more determined to take part in events like the Men’s 10K. I recently did The KiltWalk and completed the West Highland Way too.
I am also fundraising for Finding Your Feet Charity who support those affected by amputation or limb difference. The charity saved me from spiralling in oblivion and gave me and my family confidence to not let my disability defeat me.
Jim was here in spirit with me today and it was a great way to remember him as well as support a brilliant charity.”

Well done to Robert Thomson (pictured left) who lost his Dad almost two years ago to prostate cancer and today, ran the Glasgow Men’s 10K raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
Robert, who was supported by his nephew Ryan on the run, said:
“I want to give something back, raise awareness and give the charity as much support as I can. The 10K has given me a lot of motivation as I have struggled to deal with the loss of my Dad.”

William Shirriffs was diagnosed with depression several years ago, and today ran the Glasgow Men’s 10K for the SAMH.
William spoke about his journey to the start line: “Looking back, I have no idea how I kept functioning and going to work. I managed to get the help I needed and over the course of a year and a half, I got back on track - I spent a great deal of time rebuilding, made some changes and started to going to the gym.
During the rough times, I relied heavily on tech...niques for managing my depression, as well as mental health services offered in Glasgow, and am proud that I’m back on track, now with more knowledge and awareness and even more ways to manage if things start getting difficult.
On his decision to fundraise for SAMH, William said: “I believe that awareness and provision of support services for Mental Health is just as important as those for Physical Health.”

A huge well done to Mick Bennett who completed today’s Glasgow Men’s 10K for our official charity Cancer Research UK. Mick’s nephew Shay Todd was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a white blood cell derived cancer, when he was 18.
Mick explained: “The diagnosis has been devastating for Shay’s parents, sister and all his friends. His chemotherapy is well underway now and we are all hoping and praying for a full and speedy recovery.”

Was volunteering an it was a brilliant day!!.. great too see all the runners @ even better that a boy from my local running club was the actual winner!!!.....x

User

Really enjoyed the race and the simplicity of getting your number sent from registration to the completion.

Course layout was interesting as it took us through the shopping areas of Buchanan Street.

User

Really enjoyed the day, great build up at Riverside museum and a great run through the city. Brilliant atmosphere in George square at the finish, will happily take part again

User

Nice flat run 🏃

Great incouragement from all staff and shoppers all the way round 😀😀

Only 1 water station as was only 10k not a marathon.

Will be doing again next year and will be taking some water with me again as sometimes the sun does come out in Scotland

Maybe others should try this instead of complaining about small things

User

Great wee run .cracking atmosphere in George square at the end

User

First time at the age of 45! Will do it again

User

Another great event! A pb for myself but that aside a great run through the city of Glasgow to raise awareness for Men's Health.

You don't get the opportunity to run along these roads unless these events are organised so try and lap it up.

I get folk having a moan about the medal and they're entitled to their opinion but at the end of the day it's a piece of metal to commemorate the event . The experience and memories far outweigh it for sure.

User

A very well run event. From the entry process to the post event results service everything was problem free,
