If you've joined our whisky tour (every Saturday!) then this will be familiar to you - it's our underground cellar that gives our whisky tasting even more atmosphere šŸ„ƒ

Raise the spirits of Halloween with a tour of Edinburghā€™s spookier closes and a trip into the haunted Blair Street Underground Vaults. Then recover in our cellar with a batā€™s blood cocktail.
There are 3 tours each day from Fri 26 Oct to Sun 28 & on Halloween night 31 Oct. Each tour lasts 2 hours and includes a complimentary Halloween cocktail. Start times are: 7pm, 8pm & 9pm daily.
On this tour, youā€™ll tread the medieval closes of the Old Town, as you learn of a world that once thrived on blood, guts, and gore. Our Blair Street Underground Vaults come alive at Halloween - candlelit, and flickering with menace. Stay close to your guide as the darkness deepens: thereā€™s no telling what hides in the shadows.

An early evening Halloween tour of Edinburghā€™s haunted vaults ā€“ this descent will take you eerily close to the spirit world.
There are 7 tours each day from Fri 26 Oct to Sun 28 Oct. Each tour lasts 1 hour 15 mins. Start times for each tour are: 1pm, 2.30pm, 3pm, 4.30pm, 5pm, 5.30pm & 7pm.
Unsettling at the best of times, the vaults are even more so around All Hallowā€™s Eve. Youā€™ll meet in the Old Town to tread the quieter closes of Edinburgh, full of ghoulish tales. And then we move underground to hear of the cityā€™s most sinister side.

We know August is all the Edinburgh Fringe but we're excited & already looking forward to Halloween - there we said it! We've just put all our Halloween tickets on sale on our website NOW! http://ow.ly/a0XW303h4AE

If you've visited, you'll know that Edinburgh is not short on steps! But the views you can get from all the steps & closes make the climb worthwhile šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤©

The Tron Kirk has undergone some interesting transformations in the last couple of weeks! It now hosts an exhibition on Edinburgh's heritage - worth a visit when you're in town šŸ˜€

Today we celebrate the birth & life of Dr Elsie Inglis born in India on this day 1864. She became an Edinburgh resident & changed many people's lives. We're working with the Lord Provost & Edinburgh Evening News to campaign for a Statue for Elsiehttp://ow.ly/vn4S30ivTFI

OK, Edinburgh, we got you! We know it's halfway through August - there are so many shows to see, tours to enjoy & people everywhere. Well today we celebrate Relaxation Day so we're sharing our top 5 places to relax in Edinburgh (thank us later) šŸ˜œ https://goo.gl/mzMvdL

A little rain has never hurt anyone šŸ˜ā˜” We're keeping the festival spirit alive on the Royal Mile

User

Just one view of the mighty impressive St Giles' Cathedral on the High Street (right beside our meeting point). Did you know it is also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh? šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø

User

It may be right in the middle of the Edinburgh Festival - one of the busiest months in the city - but there are still plenty of places to find lush green parks šŸ’š

User

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is in full swing in this purpose built arena. Have you visited the tattoo at Edinburgh Castle? šŸ„

User

We could watch from up here all day! Just when you think Victoria Street can't get any more colourful, the festival rolls into town & adds an even bigger splash of colour šŸ˜šŸ¤¹

User

We love seeing Edinburgh from different views - it's hard to believe this is just off the very busy thoroughfare of the Royal Mile! Of course it may be familiar to those Outlander fans among you šŸ˜Ž

User

Thanks to all your lovely reviews we're celebrating another year of being recognised for what we do šŸ§”šŸ˜

User

During EdFringe everywhere is a stage in Edinburgh but it's like that for us year-round šŸ˜‰šŸ˜ƒ

It officially all kicks off tomorrow, we can't wait - Edinburgh Fringe Festival is back šŸ§”šŸ¤©

We're loving this very atmospheric photo of our guide Edgar that was shared with us over on Instagram thanks m.sanvig šŸ˜®

Went on the late tour last night with Artimus. She was the best guide anyone could ask for. Artimus told the story of The Auld Toon like she had actually been there herself. We went deep underground to the Blair St Vaults, the first thing you notice is the smell of hundreds of years of history. The Vaults are hive of paranormal activity where you can feel and see the spirits that lurk in the dark cold corners of various rooms. Wether you are Scottish or from anywhere in the world, Mercat Tours will give you an experience that will stay with you forever. Thanks Artimus.

User

Went on the Gory Stories kids ghost tour this morning with my son. Arti was our guide and a fantastic one at that answering the kids questions and making it spooky but not too scary! My sons first vaults visit and he loved it. Thank you so much! I'm sure we will be back soon!

User

We had a tour for my sister's hen night with a group of mixed ages. Artemis was fantastic, so entertaining and knowledgeable but also very aware of the group and everyone's abilities when navigating the vaults.

User

We did the ghost & ghouls tour with Ella and she was fantastic, my 9 year old son loved her, he normally very shy around strangers but when Ella needed a volunteer his hand was straight up, thatā€™s how comfortable he felt around her. The tour was excellent and Ella really made it big thumbs up ļæ½ļæ½

User

We did the Blair Vaults tour this morning and Andrew was our guide. It was absolutely fantastic. The vaults themselves are pretty cool and are an amazing thing to see but Andrew really made the tour special. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and obviously so passionate about Edinburghā€™s Old Town history. We had a ball, thank you very much and especial thanks to Andrew for making the tour so enjoyable. 27/7/18 Noon tour - we were the token Scots from Glasgow!

User

We arrived in Edinburgh for the first time just a few hours before our Hidden and Haunted tour with Sara, we enjoyed it immensely and have recommended it to our friends visiting later this year

User

Really loved the History tour our guide was Laura, she was so passionate about the history of the vaults would definitely recommend Mercat tours and the history tour for anyone interested in history and the vaults of Edinburgh

User

Out last night with Ella as our guide. She was fantastic funny and informative. A very good hostess. This is my second time I have done this tour with different guides and she didn't disappoint just as good if not better than the last time excellent work well done ļæ½

My husband and I came to Edinburgh for two days and one night. We decided to go on the Doomed, Dead and Buried tour. Our guide for the evening was Rachel. What an absolutely great time we had, the stories were fab, the vaults were fantastic and Rachel was brilliant. Well worth the money and will recommend to everyone.

My friends and I were visiting Edinburgh during the first week of May, during the amazingly un-Scottish heatwave. We came all the way from Canada, with a pitstop in my home town in South Yorkshire for myself. Needless to say, we were ready to get started on Scotland the moment we could.

On May 5th we started out our day with Mercat's Outlander walking tour, we were running a little late, but finally met up with Naomi (I hope I remember her name correctly!) who was amazing. It was a smaller group and she made sure that everyone had a great time. She was knowledgable and delivered the information and stories so, so well. This is the perfect tour for Outlander fans who have a love for the history in the story. I was ready to do the Outlander tour over again the very next day.

Our mid-day tour was the Ghostly Underground tour, with our guide Alun, who again, was amazing. Alun delivered the stories and facts of Edinburgh's darker history in such a captivating way, and made our time in the vaults both spooky and personal. I've personally been dying to go down into the vaults since watching Most Haunted back in the day, and to finally get down there and have the tour be as fun as it was, was a dream come true. And as odd a feeling those vaults have with them, I'm dying to go back down there to visit Mr Boots ;).

Thank you Mercat, for an incredible, informative, and memorable start to our Scotland tour. We're back home in Saskatchewan now and I make sure to tell everyone I can about the tours. Cannot wait to come back to Edinburgh and check out more tours.

User

My friend and I did an underground tour during our stay to Edinburgh last weekend, and we both agree that the tour made our trip. We are both history graduates and were eager to learn about Edinburgh's social past, and we were both surprised and intrigued by the thoroughly enjoyable tour. Our guide, Charles, delivered a wonderful tour full of history mixed with humour and enthusiasm, and upon my next visit to the city I shall definitely be exploring more of the wide range of tours they have to offer!

User

I would thoroughly recommend the Edinburgh vaults tour! Our tour guide Fred was so informative and made the tour such a fun experience. The tour surpassed my expectations and I would definitely recommend to family and friends visiting Edinburgh!

User

I did four of their tours during my stay in Edinburgh the first one "Historic Underground" was on a whim while i was getting back to the hotel from a visit in The Whiskey Experince. But I was hooked right there thanks Nora. Returned the next day for Secrets of the Royal Mile (was the one that i originally intended to do) This was as good as the previous tour and i like that the tour guides are so enthusiastic about what they do. Thank you Eva. Then same evening I attended "Evening of Ghost & Ghouls" and this one was my favorite allthough i been in the Underground Vaults the day before and knew roughly what it was all about Lara manages to set the mood perfectly. The immersion was slightly ruined a bit in when another group arrived so you could hear noises in the background but overall great.

The last one that i attended was Treasures of Old Town and as the previous this was one great as well thank you Sue. I feel that i rambled a bit about how everything was so great but it did make my visit to Edinburgh much more enjoyable. One last detail that i found really nice was that the tour guides came and chatted with the people that would attend the tour. Was a new experince for me at least and it made me feel quite welcome at least.

User

Had a tour today with a lovely woman called Nora, she made the tour very enjoyable, allowed time for people to stop and take photos and was very enthusiastic when explaining the history. It was just an all round fantastic experience. I would definitely go on another tour!

User

Fun ghost tour aimed at kids. Anna our guide was lovely and had our 9 year old enthralled and actually participating with enthusiasm ( not the norm for him!ļæ½) Lots of entertaining spooky stories but nothing too scary for the young audience. Enjoyed by the whole family.

User

First I did the Historic Tour incl Castle with Nicky as our Guide. She was best Guide you can have! So many little details to talk about, so many stories to be told and so many things to look at. 2 hours were gone by so fast, I could have listen to her much longer.

Second Tour was the Ghost Tour with Lara as Guide. Again a perfect Guide, so much fun and a bit of scare in the Underground. Lara is very passionated and her face tells much more than her words. Loved both Tours and can really recommend.

User

I was at pride today where we decided to have a minuet silence and it was announced pretty loud that it was going to happen and the whole crowd off us was really quiet, but yet still your staff was loud and talking through the whole thing and clearly didnā€™t have any respect towards our minuet silence that we where having and didnā€™t even think to move further away from the crowd so we could have that really important silence and time to our selfs or even let us have that tiny bit off the royal mile for 60 seconds! Disgusting and ashamed! Maybe next year you can get your staff sorted out and actually let us get on with our pride and have our respectful silence that we all deserved

User

I attended pride today, and during the break where speeches were being made, we had a minutes silence for all the awful stuff thatā€™s gone on in our community. In the middle of the minutes silence, one of your guides rudely spoke through it. Itā€™s disgusting behaviour. He really couldnā€™t of waited just 60 seconds?! I feel disgusted and disrespected on behalf of everyone in the community that he couldnā€™t show any respect for us.
