About Mimc - Moving Image Makers Collective

Made in the Borders: Seven Filmmakers | Seven Screening-Weeks

The Moving Image Makers Collective, [MIMC] is a dynamically evolving group of film and moving image creatives based in the Scottish Borders. Since its inception in early 2015, the group has been prolific, producing on the whole, high standard work. Of the nearly hundred short experimental films and installations made by the group so far, quite a number of them went on to be screened collectively and individually in prestigious film festivals in the UK, Europe, and the US.

Affiliated with the Hawick based and internationally acclaimed, Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, it was its creative director, Richard Ashrowan, who, after repeated requests from festivalgoers, offered in late 2014 some 30 Borders' applicants their first opportunity at film-making, providing 10 masterclasses and workshops at the end of which their films were shown at Alchemy's 5th Festival edition in 2015.

Since then, one of the secrets underlying the continuous thriving of the Collective, is perhaps down to the members becoming collaborative friends, as well as the invaluable supportive feedback they give each other during their monthly meetings.

This summer, the Alchemy team has handed over their new Gallery space to the MIMC filmmakers for 7 weeks. This is the first time that 7 members of the Collective have taken this wonderful opportunity to solo-screen a selection of their work to date.

The 7 week Exhibition screenings will commence with work by the well known Hawick Photographer Patrick Rafferty.

20th and 22nd July, Patrick Rafferty ~ Rhythm, Routine and Ritual

27th and 29th July, Beverley Cornwell ~ On Exhibit

“We are quite a diverse group of writers, poets, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, actors, stage directors and visual artists from Hawick and the surrounding area who love to push our artistic scope beyond the boundaries of time and place. While our films and installation are certainly what you’d call experimental, the eight of us welcome you to drop in and watch the great range of styles and ideas we offer. We hope you’ll experience something you may find both beautiful, interesting and thought provoking”

Alchemy, 39-41a High Street, Hawick. Thursdays 12. 00pm - 6. 00 pm Saturdays 10. 00 am - 4. 00 pm. Admission Free.
