About Mo Dhachaidh

Mo Dhachaidh means my home and is our home. We welcome people for short visits to help on the croft, try out arts and crafts, as pilgrims en route to Iona.

Next year's firelighters drying. No need for petroleum based ones which sometimes also contain formaldehyde.

First eggs for sale of the year. Ducks still resting but all the hens are doing their thing :) £1 for 4

Making marmalade isn't top of the favourite activities here but it is definitely a favourite on homemade bread or toast. Organic seville oranges and much less sugar (also organic) than the recipes call for. Anyway, here is this years batch.

Thanks for this Leah, and to William and Tonin. August 2019 our last Wwoofers of the year.

I'm sure someone who has visited us would be interested in this job, or will know someone else who would be ...

Here it is solidly in situ. Thanks again to Miriam from Montana.

The very talented Miriam from Montana made us this - her first ever mosaic but for sure not her last. It's made with broken mugs so each part brings back memories too. Once we have varnished the wood and given it a back support it will go at the roadside. But can't wait till then to share.

Quite a difference between google maps image April 2009 and Peter Macdonald's one April 2019. Not all our planting but lovely to see the difference, still very much work in progress. The day will come when there's no artificial ground cover. https://goo.gl/maps/ALeiKnNfCxy82b8n6 Many thanks to Helen Ramage for getting the google image for me

Hoping to make a start on our Wwoofers' Recipe Book this year. Will include some from previous years if we can find them. Starting this year as we mean to go on so first up is Semmelknoedel - Bavarian/South German bread dumpling - made with spinach and cheese by Nora.

Planted 27 bare root fruit trees today - 20 apple, 5 plum, 2 cherry. May be sore tomorrow!

With Burns Night approaching we thought we'd post this again. Delicious, much cheaper than shop bought, and not difficult to cook. People always love Martyn's VEGETARIAN HAGGIS: Enough oil to cook: 1 large onion... 1 large carrot 200 g mushrooms Add: 50g pearl barley 50g red lentil 40 ml stock 400g mashed, drained, kidney beans. Simmer all gently. and add, soy sauce, juice of one lemon, yeast extract, nutmeg, thyme, mixed spice, salt, pepper. All these ingredients to be used to personal taste! While everything is boiling gently add oatmeal and stir it in until the mix becomes solid enough to bake. Oven for 15 minutes, 150C Then cook and mash your tatties and neeps. Enjoy !

We've had great wwoofers this year. Lack of posting on here in no way reflects how much we appreciate them! So far this year we've welcomed folk from Wales, France, Scotland, Switzerland, England, California, Germany, Israel, Argentina. More than one from most of these places. Our "Welcome" floor now includes Hebrew and Spanish. Still space for more, although I now can't fit them in one photo. Thanks everyone.

This new social enterprise is growing food in various unused and underused spaces but also going to be growing a lot here at Mo Dhachaidh. Occasional postings here but for more frequent updates please check out this new page.
