Congratulations to Adam for completing the Building Brighter Futures course, which is split between the Move On Scotland Edinburgh office, Action for Children Scotland office and our workshop πŸ‘
As well as practical experience, he has successfully achieved SQA skills and qualifications in first aid, employability and health and safety, as well as certified manual handling training and his CSCS card.
Adam says he has "enjoyed the banter" with staff and other young people, "as well as the scran!" He would recommend the course because "it's not a typical learning environment because you're not forced to sit and read."

You only have until Friday May 31st to complete The Scottish Government Social Enterprise Census 2019! This official study helps make the case for continuing policy and funding support. We can also use the results to lobby and convince others about the impact of our sector!

Congratulations to Rhian, Karamo and Frazer for completing the Move On Scotland Building Brighter Futures course in our workshop! πŸ‘
The eight week employability course gives young people the opportunity to gain SQA awards including Employability Award Level 3, Core Skills in Reading and Writing, and Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Level 4. We also provide manual handling training, practice interviews and help writing a CV.
If you're interested in the course, or would like to refer a young person, please get in touch!

We were delighted to welcome Deidre Brock MP for a tour of our workshop last Friday! Deidre is the Scottish National Party (SNP) MP for Edinburgh North and Leith and was interested to find out how we're saving wood from going to waste, as well as providing quality volunteering, training and employment opportunities.

If you're doing any DIY this bank holiday, get inspired by this beautiful project from Southampton Wood Recycling Project: one of their customers transformed lengths of wood into a bed and a cable drum into a bedside table! 😍

Thanks to customers Janet and Roland for sharing this photo of their incredible new bookcase with us! 😍 Now that the DIY is done and dusted, their cat isn't wasting any time trying to find a spot for a snooze!

Muun and Kai are out at The Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters in Gogarburn today showcasing some of our fantastic upcycled products!
We're also letting people know about our wood collection service, quality timber and the volunteering and training opportunities we offer.

After completing the Move On Scotland Building Brighter Futures course, Kai secured a job in our workshop as a Trainee Development Worker. He now has a hands on role collecting waste wood from across Edinburgh and the Lothians, stripping wood to be sold as quality timber, and helping customers in our wood shop.
Working closely with other staff and volunteers, Kai is also learning wood working skills and how to upcycle wood into furniture and other items.
Never afraid to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in, Kai says he "enjoys the hands on activities, being around other people and learning new skills, like using wood working tools. Working here also increases my confidence. It’s a great experience."

The Bethany Christian Trust were having a clear out and saved Β£80 by using our waste wood removal service rather than hiring a skip! Pictured is our Trainee Development Worker, Kai, who got stuck in this morning to load our truck!

Today's DIY inspiration comes from Ayesha who created this beautiful bed frame using wood from our shop! 😍
