Mull Taxi Service

Welcome – my name is Alan Robson and I am the owner /operator of Mull Taxi Service – fully licenced by Argyll and Bute County Council.

My vehicle can accommodate up to 7 passengers. But I can also arrange journeys for more than 7 passengers with the co-operation of others with taxi or private hire vehicles on Mull and Iona.

My vehicle is metered across all trips. I also offer an hourly rate from here (Tobermory) to your destination. Many customers wish to know about costs before setting off. I will give quotations and explain costings at the time of your enquiry. There are additional costs for ferry and /or possible overnight stays if journeys are required to and from the mainland.

My association with Mull goes back to the early 1980’s. My delight and knowledge of this most beautiful of places provides me with knowledge to offer tours of the island and visits to places of interest.

The Isle of Mull and Iona have long been a major holiday destination for discerning visitors. Mull, in particular, is now regarded as a superb location for Eco-Tourism, magnificent scenery and wildlife, as often featured on BBC Television and Radio, makes these isles truly memorable. If you are interested in a holiday that brings together stunning sea trips for whale and dolphin watching; land based trips to view the ever-increasung population of Sea Eagles; hiking (perhaps Ben More, Mull's Munro); fishing; photography – then Mull will not disappoint. The historical island of Iona is the gateway to Staffa, as well as other Inner Hebridean islands of Coll and Tiree. Mull Taxi Service can help you meet many of your transport needs when visiting the Isles.

My service is primarily aimed at visitors to Mull but includes mainland Scotland too. I operate as a taxi in the sense that I can be hailed on passing and will respond to a phone call as soon as possible, if available (bookings receive priority, naturally).

I do “pick ups, drop offs, returns and tours”. You will also find a picture gallery on this website showing some Mull locations. to give a flavour of the island.

Mull gets many overseas visitors. There is always a warm welcome. Some bring their own vehicles, some hire vehicles and some require transport. I have done tours (in my taxi) with passengers who have their own vehicle! Sounds crazy! – not at all. We drive on the left side of the road and the majority of Mull roads are single track, with passing places. Some drivers do not wish to take risks with unfamiliar circumstances and enjoyment is their priority – seeing scenery and looking for wildlife. Why drive when I can do the action and you just enjoy the views?

Anything is possible, really.
I would caution against trying too much e. g. I do not believe you can visit Iona and Tobermory in one day without, at least, an overnight stay – it would be too rushed. Iona is a beautiful, peaceful place and is worth spending several hours there.

I can pick up from anywhere on the island, from ferry, from cruise ship and take you where you wish to go. You may have previous knowledge or experience of Mull and know where you would like to visit. (you may have done an internet search). You may have no knowledge of the island and wish to take advantage of my knowledge /experience.

The following, in no particular order, are some ideas of tours, interesting places to visit.
e. g. from Tobermory – across the north coast, via Mishnish Lochs, to viewpoint above Dervaig village – the village itself (Bellachroy Inn dates from 1608) – Kilmore church (beautiful – always open) – Old Byre Heritage Centre (popular stop – video displays, gifts, coffee /food) – Calgary Coffee shop (with gifts) /Calgary Art in Nature (fantastic) – Calgary beach - Treshnish (shore walk) - along spectacular coastline to Lip na Cloiche garden (unique) – Ulva Ferry /island of Ulva itself with fantastic restaurant – MacQuarrie (first governor of Australia) Mausoleum. Further round coast or back across island? Decisions, decisions. Duart Castle (13th Century home of chief of Clan MacLean). This is not in Edinburgh /Stirling Castles scale, perhaps, but well worth visiting (also excellent tea room! )
This journey can be ½ day, at least – quality is very important when visiting Mull.
Also consider visiting Iona and coming back via scenic west coast route; Loch Buie and Moy Castle; Carsaig; Sea Eagle hide at Glen Selister (need to book); Ardalanish farm (traditional weaving); Glengorm Castle (not a visitor attraction in itself) but great walks and a great coffee shop; Sgriob-ruadh farm, home of Isle of Mull Cheese (near Tobermory); taking ferry from Tobermory to Kilchoan on Ardnamurchan, visiting the lighthouse (most westerly part of mainland Britain) and Sanna beach.

Other journeys.

I have picked people up from airports (Glasgow, Prestwick, Edinburgh) or railway stations (Glasgow, Fort William) and brought them to Mull. I have transported families home when their vehicle has broken down. I have transported people to the next cruise ship destination after 1 of the party required an overnight stay in our hospital. I have carried luggage for cyclists and walkers from 1 B & B to the next and also delivered luggage to people when there have been problems at airports (luggage put on a wrong flight! ). I have delivered telegrams and have also delivered live lobsters that were won in a raffle.
Whilst not a travel agent, I will be delighted to assist in finding accommodation for you and liaise on wildlife /photography trips and more.

Tobermory is Mull’s “capital”. It is considered an essential place to visit – accommodation to suit all needs, shops selling local, quality goods, excellent restaurants, bars, coffee shops (I seem to mention them so often! ), our museum, our Arts Centre (An Tobar) – yes it does coffee and food and much, much more. This vibrant place with its renowned multi-coloured buildings can never disappoint.
