Mummies And Tummies Description
I have been a midwife for over 10 years and worked in several large hospitals during that time. During my career in Edinburgh I have worked in all hospital areas of the maternity unit and I was part of the core staff when the Lothian Birth Centre opened. (This is a midwifery led unit for low risk mums and babies, providing care in labour and in the postnatal period, but still attached to the main labour ward should there be a need for transfer. )
I feel very passionately about facilitating normal birth as far as possible and supporting women to achieve their most positive birth outcomes by using massage, aromatherapy, encouraging mobility during labour, hypnobirthing techniques and waterbirth.
Another strong passion I have is with breastfeeding and on top of my 10 years midwifery experience, I ran a project in 2014 in the Birth Centre providing 1: 1 support for new mums and other midwives to overcome any early breastfeeding problems and also to try and facilitate uninterrupted skin-skin contact within the first hour after birth. In order to support my work doing this, I attended the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Breastfeeding conference in Newcastle in Nov 2014, which gave me extra insight into new findings on best practice for new mums and babies.
Due to having recently become a mum myself and with number 2 arriving soon, I have stopped working as a midwife, but am very keen to use my 10 years experience to continue working with and supporting pregnant women whilst they prepare for birth and the transition to motherhood and in the postnatal period.

The Benzies Foundation are organising a Bump to Bairn nearly new market on Sun 23rd Oct at Saint Stephen's Stockbridge. It will range from maternity to teens. All items will be in good or never worn/used condition. If you would like a stall please contact info@benziesfoundation.org. We will also have a free on site crèche provided by Daddy Daycare and a stall providing children's activities provided by Smart Cookies so you can dump the kids and shop. Stockbridge's very own Pantry Tuck Truck will be serving up delicious food and drink and there will also be independent and local mummy businesses so do come and support!
