Mums Great Comfort Food

This place feels like a local secret, such a good vibe with great music going, AMAZING food (treacle tart was SO good!!) and right in the middle of so many interesting things. Loved the style of the cafe, just really good food and great staff. Very friendly to a solo traveller coming in from a rainy Edinburgh day.

We took the whole family, 6 of us. Best pancakes in town, the boys loved them, light and fluffy. They have lots of comics for the children to read. I think you can judge a full Scottish/English on the quality of the sausages, needless to say, they were amazing. We'll be back on our next visit to Edinburgh. Maybe in time for next Halloween, the Goolish mix tape was great!

Not sure why there are great reviews about this place but a few, including me, had different experience. I found that the owner was not as friendly as others had described her to be. As I was sitting there, I noticed that the lady did make a friendly conversation with some customers but seemed uninterested to respond when I tried to chat with her. When I asked for her suggestion in choosing the menu, she even responded by saying 'I don't know what you like.' Sure she doesn't know my taste but could have at least recommend something. Cannot be sure why she treated me differently

Small little home cooked joint, which is my favourite kind of restaurant. Portions were massive, prices were great and staff was incredibly friendly. We'd recommend the steak and ale stew. Chips were also great. A definite stop if you're looking for some food to warm up!

Very charismatic staff, and excellent sausages and mash. Chilli sausages were especially good. Also offers a very good variety of pies, but has a poor selection of beers.

Tasty and traditional food served by smiling and friendly staff. The interior is all in line with "Mums" great food from past times. The only down side is the music and sound that is a little bit to loud to be comfortable for a dinner...

Standard fair ionic British comfort food at good prices. Bangers and mash, pies, and full breakfast. Service is friendly and quirky. Food was alright, I recommend something other than the eggs benedict. Tap water had a metallic odor so I recommend bottled water or something else. I might try it again in the future.

OMG what fantastic food we had. 6 of us on a Monday late afternoon had steak and ale stew with cheese mash, trio of sausages with red onion and basil mash, shepherds pie and large cauliflower and broccoli cheese bake. We all enjoyed our food. Staff extremely helpful and we can all highly recommend it. Thank you 😊
