great wee place, not massive but enough to keep the kids entertained for a wee while :) gift shop pretty expensive for what it sells but then again aren't they all at these places? and its free entry so you don't really mind. Would visit again :)

User

Went there for the 2nd time with my wife n wee kids of 7yo, 5yo n 4yo. Really enjoyed every moment there. Not really big but huge on collections. Just perfect to kill of time in the afternoon. Will come back again. But if they have more activities for the kids other than coloring, on the wall lego n checkboard game would be wonderfull

Went here Thursday 9/2/17 with hubby and kids (10+12yrs) had a lovely hour or so mooching around. Kids were amused at toys we had and loved when we were younger and amazed at toys I recalled my parents describing to me, took lots of video to show mam when I get home, would love to bring her to see. Great value at cost of a donation. Would love to make it back soon.

We visited the museum recently and were surprised and delighted. The collection was varied with something to please everybody. Our favourites were the toy shops, pedal cars, trains and some of the dolls. Everything was pleasingly displayed and the staff were friendly and helpful. We thoroughly recommend a visit! (Check that it is open as they are closing soon for refurbishment).

Visiting this museum is a fantastic experience. The objects are very well preserved and exciting to look at. There are fun activities for everyone to participate. The bedtime stories gallery was my favourite, with that beautiful quilt of tales on the wall.

User

This great wee museum is located at the heart of Canongate towards Royal Mile. Just pop in and dip yourself into those antique toys and displays. Definitely a must-go attraction in the central of Edinburgh. Why not? It's free admission too!

User

One of Edinburgh's best loved places for families, and newly refurbished So much to see both in the collection and in the exhibition spaces. A lovely place for a visit, and very close to other attractions children and adults will enjoy! The Scottish Storytelling Centre, with its great wee cafe and a range of events, is right across the street too.

Had a really nice time here with the grandkids ( 5 and 2 years ) they had a ball and loved looking at the toys their Gran and Grandad played with ’┐ĮApart from the DOLLS ’┐Į’┐ĮBit spooky ’┐Į It's a brilliant venue to take the kids especially as it's for just a donation so not an expensive day out. Fun time had by all.

User

Great way to spend a morning out with the family. Free Admission at the childhood museum. There was lots to see and it sure was a trip down memory lane for me and the hubby. The girls really enjoyed interacting with some of the toys would definitely recommend this Museum.

User

Came here on Saturday with the Dude who really loved it and talked me into going again on Sunday. Small and great fun. A bit like the Dude. ’┐Į

User

A great place for all ages. Free admission to this wonderful place. We had lots of fun & brought back so many memories. My granddaughter loved all the collections & dressing up in the old clothes.

Would highly recommend a must see in Edinburgh. A donation is optional but even if had to pay be worth every penny. Staff for very friendly & helpful x

User

enjoyed visiting this free museum. loved the doll collection, reminds me of my grandmas collection. my 3 years old son had so much fun playing with the wooden cars. too bad we didnt have that much time to explore as we came in late.

User

The museum is much brighter and better laid out since itŌĆÖs recent upgrade; a nostalgic trip through our own childhood and that of many years past, good fun!! The shop is a bit pricey

User

The museum is looking good. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit, especially all the interactive areas.

User

My hubby and i visited with our kids aged 14 and 10, and the kids loved seeing all of the old toys, as did we, it was also interesting to learn about the history of childhood throughout the years too. There are a few interactive displays which were fun, make sure you have 5p and 10p coins on you to use them though. There is a lovely wee gift shop too. All in all a lovely wee place, definitely worth a visit.

User

Its a family tradition to visit this venue. Yesterdays family trip was for my nearly 3 year old grandson. I enjoyed watching him finding the various dolls, toys, etc exciting and his querying items on display. And on top of a great time it was free. :-)

User

Enjoyed the displays, a bit disappointed about the Growing Up with Books exhibit, was very small and didnŌĆÖt have much information or display. Lots of fun toys on show!

User

Definitely worth a visit. I really enjoyed seeing toys from my childhood. I think a little more stuff for kids to do would be good to keep there attention. Like a chart they have to find a certain item in each gallery.

User

Came here two days ago & really enjoyed seeing all the different childhood toys through time. Was impressed to see some more recent technology (gameboy & Xbox) for someone who was born in 1990! However the dolls were slightly creepy & was sad to see so much negative feedback on your ground floor wall near the stairs. Definitely would recommend this as a good way to kill an hour especially if it's raining outside.
