KIRKMICHAEL AND SURROUNDING AREAS.
The conservation village of Kirkmichael has a community shop and cosy cafe. The Kirkmichael Arms is a popular restaurant and bar situated only five minutes walk from the cottage. The food is excellent and well priced, and this pretty country pub is popular with locals and visitors alike. The 18th century kirk, on the site of a 13th century religious foundation, has Arts and Crafts stained glass, and an ancient kirkyard with fascinating carvings and inscriptions. There is a small playground, the pretty Dyrock Burn runs through the heart of the village and there are many delightful walks on all sides. Kirkmichael is only three miles from a superb and deservedly popular wedding venue at Dalduff Farm, by Crosshill.
Ayrshire is an area of great natural beauty and historical interest. It is ideal for walkers, cyclists and fishing enthusiasts, not forgetting the appeal of our many celebrated golf courses including Royal Troon and Turnberry. We are part of the Burns Country with the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum ands Burns Cottage at Alloway only eight miles away. The ‘jewel in the crown’ of the National Trust for Scotland, Culzean Castle and Country Park, is twenty minutes distant by car. South of the village is the renowned Galloway forest park, with a wealth of animal and bird life, and we are also very close to the Scottish Dark Skies area with its new observatory. The Ayrshire coast, with stunning views across the Firth of Clyde as far as Arran, Kintyre and even Ireland, is one of the little known gems of Scotland. Pause on the seashore to watch seals, gannets and even porpoises, or go beachcombing for the small agate chips for which this coast is famous.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is 17 miles away, while the county town of Ayr, with excellent rail and bus connections to Glasgow, is a good shopping centre with banks, supermarkets and restaurants in plenty. The small town of Maybole, only three miles away, has shops, a post office, takeaway restaurants and a medical centre.
