Our Performance Team were in demand this year! This routine was first created for our very own Strictly Come Dancing Fundraiser but was also performed at Edinburgh Napier Pop Choir's Winter Showcase and Napier University Drama Society's Backwards Broadway!
Choreographed and captained by the wonderful Aleksandrina Tsvetanova - this team worked so hard and are like a little family. We absolutely love this one!

As well as our incredible competitive season we also introduced our Performance Team this year. This routine was created for Edinburgh Napier Events Society's Gatsby Cabaret event and was choreographed collaboratively between the girls. They also performed it at Edinburgh Napier Panthers Showcase! It's so much fun to see the energy and 20's vibe come to life - give it a watch!ūüėć

This week we're continuing to reflect on some of the amazing performances we've seen with Napier Dance this year!‚ú®
For our final competition throwback we're looking at our prima ballerina Anna Girvan! This year in addition to captaining our Ballet Team, she also competed as a soloist at three of our five competitions. This stunning solo managed to secure her two 1st place trophies in the Wildcard category at St Andrew's and the Freshers category at Dundee! In addition to these wins, Anna was also selected as Best Female Dancer of the day at TWO competitions, in Edinburgh and Dundee! Out of hundreds of dancers each day, this is a huge achievement and we are so proud of her!ūüėćūü§©

In addition to our competition teams we had some individual performances at comps this year. Two of our competitions had an Improvisation category which our President Katie competed in. In this category the music would be played once and then she would just have to dance and make it look like it was planned whilst standing out from the other competitors! Each rou...nd was a different style of Jazz, Contemporary and Hip Hop so she had to do all three to avoid being knocked out! It‚Äôs a pretty stressful category but she did a great job and picked up 2nd at NCL and 1st at DUDC!ūü•áūü•ą
At each competition there are also some extra overall awards that are chosen by the judges. As the QMU Sapphires Showcase Katie was chosen as Best Performer for the day out of hundreds of dancers and cheerleaders!ūüŹÜ

I think it's safe to say that these ladies did an incredible job of leading our competition teams this year! THANK YOU to our Comp Captains for your creativity, dedication and leadership! 21 trophies wouldn‚Äôt have happened without you and the hard work of all our Comp Team dancers!ūü§©ūüíÉ
Can't wait to see what next year's Captains come up with!!‚ú®

This week we are looking back at our incredible 2019 Competition Season and sharing the amazing routines that brought in 21 trophies in for Napier Dance this year!‚ú®
This year our Contemporary Competition Team was captained and choreographed by Freya Donnelly! Freya decided to do something a bit different this year and the blindfold to help tell the story. The concept of the dance is that people who feel like they‚Äôre alone often don‚Äôt realise how many people surround them and are there to help. This dramatic piece has stood out at competition for its creativity and storytelling. They placed 3rd at Edinburgh and Newcastle and 1st at Dundee and QMU!ūüôĆūüŹĽ

Another first time for Napier Dance was having a Ballet team, and not only that, they also competed in the advanced category all season which is no easy task! Our Ballet Captain and choreographer this year was Anna Girvan! In typical Napier Dance style we like to put a spin on the expected and so this year our Ballet team stood out with their routine performed to modern music by the legendary Michael Jackson. It definitely added some flavour into the category at competitions! They nailed it this year placing 3rd at Edinburgh and Dundee and 1st at QMU and St Andrews!ūüēī

This is the first year that Napier Dance has ever had a Tap Comp Team! They were captained and choreographed by Catriona Lauren Richardson! The tap team brought some sass to the competitions this year with this flamenco inspired routine - it was the first song they came across when looking for inspiration and luckily it was an absolute banger! Our lovely ladies in red scored 2nd place at the Dundee competition with this firey tap routine!ūüíÉ

Hip Hop was choreographed and captained by the dream team duo Amy Mooney and Emily Divine! This voodoo doll inspired routine has been on quite the journey thanks to this hardworking team and continued to evolve throughout the comp season adding more and more cool tricks! Our hip hop team slayed comps this year coming home with 1st place from Newcastle, 2nd place from QMU and 3rd place from St Andrews!ūüďć

Our Jazz Captain and choreographer this year was Katie Daniel! This year's jazz was fierce! We lived for the powerful sass of this routine which definitely stood out among the cheese and jazz hands in the category. This strong routine snatched 2nd place at Dundee and St Andrews and 1st at QMU!ūüėą

Huge thank you to all our of dancers for their hard work and talent, and especially to our Captains for their incredible choreography. A massive thanks to all the wonderful people who have come along to support us, from fellow dancers to brilliant parents, we love you all! We cannot thank our bus drivers enough for giving up their weekends to drive us around the country at the crack of dawn! And finally, all the thanks go to our incredible Competition Coordinator Cat - she has organised us getting to all these places this season, made sure everyone was on it and has been in 4/5 teams too! Her dedication is so so appreciated this yearūüíÉ‚ú®
