Love is not a condition, but a state of mind. Love is not in a moment, but what defines it as the foundation. Love is an emotion often confused with being the most important aspect of a relationship, it changes and sculpts, molds to you and has no concern for when you do or don’t feel it. When you love someone, it is wholly, and all the time even when unfelt.
We talk so much about marriage in modern day, what rights we should be allotted and all the finicky technicalities, t...he importance of marriage is in longevity, the grittiness and struggle of growth.
You grow next to someone, and it makes life full of new potential that didn’t before exist for either of you. Laughter at so many little secret things shared, but mainly at yourselves, is the most life-giving thing.
Take yourself less seriously, then do it again, your feelings - important as they are - come second. When two people can put themselves aside to love the other, that’s strength. Vulnerability is not just courageous, it’s necessary, openness is the water love drinks and thirsts for. Your roots must grow like your branches, what looks like success upwards comes from the unseen, and within you both. Who you are is not final, or the full-stop on a sentence, your personality is not an excuse for miscommunication or upsets between you.
Even when you’re exhausted beyond all belief, you talk, push through, and work at the ever-demanding job that a good marriage is. Healthy marriages do not thrive on happiness, but on consistent reliability to be a foundation for two changing, unique, and emotional people.
Your friendship and intimacy are equally imperative parts of a well-practiced connection.
Hope, important as it is, does not get you through, but faith, selflessness, and a desire to see your partner thrive always push you to be better for them, and in turn - yourself.
Love will always surprise you, always grow with you, from you, and through you, stay open, stay willing, and have the utmost faith.
