About National Navigation Award Scheme

The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) develops navigation skills, helping people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors safely and confidently.

National Navigation Award Scheme Description

The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) is a personal performance, non-competitive, incentive scheme for all ages to learn navigation skills and gain confidence to get out and enjoy the countryside.

All NNAS courses include advice and information about relevant safety and access issues when journeying in the countryside. In addition, an understanding of relevant conservation and environmental issues and awareness of our impacts all form part of each course.

The main NNAS scheme has three levels of award: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Bronze level is suitable for people with little or no prior navigation knowledge.

There are also Young Navigators Star Awards (YNSA) which are aimed at all ages and abilities, promoting exploration in local areas using simple maps e. g. street maps, pictorial park maps & orienteering maps, and with a gradual learning progression.

Please note that the awards are individual skills awards and should not be used as a leadership qualification of any kind.

For further details and a full syllabus for the awards please go to our website.
