All this fine weather is making us feel like spring is in the air. Here are a few pictures of a Victorian Greenhouse we built at Arnage Castle.

Wishing all our customers a Merry Xmas and a prosperous New Year.

First floor joists out of a house built in 1841. Scots pine well over a hundred years old before it was felled and cut into lumber. Some of these growth rings seen here are around the time of Culloden and indeed perhaps before the 1707 act of union. Food for thought. Can’t see modern force grown treated timber lasting this long. However, we have local cut Douglas fir and Larch in stock, seasoned and ready for milling.

2no Dormars made in Workshop and fitted onsite. Hardwood windows made and fitted at same time. 4no coats applied on all surfaces.

Spring is in the air. Time for decking again. 33mm decking with Custom made handrails rails made from Larch out of the Cabrach. Keeping it local 👍🏻

Larch gates direct from a forest in the Cabrach to being milled at the workshop to finish a deck in a windy Broch! Lead capping to seal end grain and wind bracing steel horizontals to finish this set.

User

We do like a challenge . A 2 storey traditional house over looking the Moray Firth in a high wind location. Extra bracing needed on this one!

Nice weather for roofing at the moment. After the “Scant” slate is put on we fix on a 2inch round timber and fix Code 5 lead on top. This lead saddle is a great long lasting finish to a ridge line. Once on it’s good for a few century’s.

A couple of flat roofs we did this month. 1st roof is done with contemporary steel profile with anti condensation layer underneath build on a new frame on top of existing roof after removing old roof covering. Again we mix it up with new and old by finishing all flashings in lead and cast guttering.

User

2nd roof was remedied with a wide welsh slate with good headlap which can get you down to a pitch of 10 degrees if needed. Also the use of lead around valley joining to tiles, the Saddle at top and the wall flashing ensuring this flat roof stays in tune with its traditional surroundings and will be good for a century or so.

A couple of 6 panel interior doors at the end of production with 3rd layer of undercoat.

User

A range of doors we made and fitted for a steading conversion we did. Including Bi-fold and French doors with vents at top on some of the fan lights. Maranti hardwood with oil based finished.

User

If you want longevity and no maintenance with a several hundred year guarantee look no further than lead. Here we have a code 8 lead saddle joined by rolling around a Red Pine mopstick for expansion and sealing width joins

User

Something for the winter nights. A job we did in Banff. A gas fired fireplace with tv directly above. Had to widen the opening substantially to incorporate the width of the fire.

User

Today was a little bit different but not a bad place to have your wee holiday hoose. Great day on the technicalities of Traditional Sash and Case windows with the Estate Joiner.
