🐉🐉 St Mary’s Episcopal #Cathedral is an #Edinburgh landmark, with its three #gothic spires clearly seen from all around the city, and yet the building itself seems to be hidden in the city’s elegant West End. The viaduct stands 126 feet (38 m) from the floor of the river valley. The clock is not only an immaculately tended floral display in the shape of a clock, it also tells the correct time. Commissioned in 1903, it was the first of its kind in the world. This fountain, sited in Princes Street Gardens, in #Edinburgh, is a magnificent example of 19th century French cast-iron work, sculpted by Jean-Baptiste Jules Klagmann. The central column has mermaid figures sitting on scallop-shell basins with lion’s heads, four figures depict Science, Arts, Poetry, and Industry, surmounted by a female holding a cornucopia. Mr Daniel Ross, a local gun-maker ‘with inclinations to art and natural science’ ordered the fountain at the Great Exhi...bition of 1862 in London and gifted it to the city. It was erected and operational in 1872 but Ross died before seeing it working. Thanks wilde_oates for sharing the picture. .

🐉🐉 #HolyroodPark is a short walk from Edinburgh’s #RoyalMile in the heart of the city. It is a 640 acre Royal Park adjacent to Holyrood Palace. The parks highest point is Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcano, and sits 251m above sea level giving excellent view of the city. If you feel fit, you must climb it!
