Staff at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary will be among those ‘in the pink’ tomorrow – helping to raise money in support of breast cancer research. Suggested donations of £2 will be collected, as some staff don pink clothing as part of the national ‘Wear It Pink’ day. The day organised by Breast Cancer Now is one of the biggest fund-raising events in the UK. And on October 19, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, thousands of amazing people will wear it pink in their communities or work places for the UK’s largest breast cancer charity. Since the first event in 2002 more than £31.5 million has been raised for life-saving research, with the hope that this sum will receive another big boost tomorrow. World Menopause Day marked with special information evening
WORLD Menopause Day is being marked in Dumfries on Thursday with a special information evening. The event at The Usual Place on the corner of Lover’s Walk and Academy Street is an opportunity to spread the message that women can help manage their menopause by making changes in a variety of areas, such as diet and lifestyle. One of the speakers at Thursday’s event is Dr Heather Currie, Associate Specialist Gynaecolog...ist with NHS Dumfries and Galloway, who said: “The menopause affects all women and can have significant effects on quality of life, impacting on home life, work life, social life and sex life as well as later health. “It is essential that women access information so that they can make informed choices about diet and lifestyle changes as well as treatment options to help manage their menopause.” Dr Currie is Trustee and past Chairman of the British Menopause Society and Founder and MD of Menopause Matters, and she added: “There’s a wealth of information out there which can help make a real difference in how a woman experiences the menopause. “It’s not a subject which receives a lot of public attention, or where you see information being publicly shared and discussed - despite the fact that this will inevitably be experienced by more than half the population. “So I’m delighted that World Menopause Day is being marked this Thursday October 18 with this Menopause Information Evening.” The event runs from 6 pm to 8 pm on October 18 at The Usual Place on Lover’s Walk. Also speaking at the event is Katrina Martin, a Specialist Menopause Nurse. And in addition to providing information, the evening is intended as a social event, with women able to share experiences and enjoy refreshments. Dr Currie said: “We’ve already seen really strong interest in the event, which is terrific, so we’d ask anyone seeking a space to please contact us in advance.” There is a charge of £2 per person to cover venue cost, and anyone interested in attending is asked to email tracee.copeland@nhs.net

Ward D9. Overwhelmed by how I got treated during my 6 night stay - the standard of professionalism, care, compassion and even the food was outstanding.
