Our Restart a Heart Day earlier this week was a great success💪
Lots of people - of all ages - stopped by to try their hand at CPR or take part in our electronic training system. The youngest person taking part was 6 year-old Maisie and the oldest was 80 year-old Heather.
The aim of the day was to train 200,000 people worldwide, and we certainly done our part 👍 #loveyournhsfife

📸Last week was Play in Hospital Week - and the Children's Ward team have made an exhibition of photos to showcase the fun they had👍
Youngsters on the Ward got right behind the occasion and joined the team in dressing up as super heroes. Feedback from parents was great and the children loved donning their capes and masks throughout the week.
Play in Hospital Week raises awareness of the benefits of play, which can brighten up poorly children and reduce the stress and anxiety of being in an unfamiliar environment.

‪We’ve got @bbcradioscot at QMH this afternoon. Luke from ‘Personal Best’ is interviewing Specialist Physio, Pierette Melville, about the impact that technology such as phones and video games are having on children’s posture. Tune in to hear their discussion on Monday at 1:30PM!‬

A special event has been held to thank NHS Fife's hospice volunteers for the support they provide. A number of hospice volunteers were unable to make our National Volunteer Day celebrations in June, however, today’s event provided another opportunity for a get-together. We’re lucky enough to have 87 hospice volunteers who undertake a wide range of different roles, including general volunteers, drivers, beauticians, art workers, and gardeners. A hard working and vibrant team, they continue to make a huge difference to our patients and their families.

A fantastic community project has transformed an unused courtyard at Queen Margaret Hospital into a therapeutic garden for hospice patients and their families.
The project, a collaboration between the community-led Queen Margaret Garden group and NHS Fife, has been supported by individuals, families and businesses from across Fife.
Cathy Simpson, whose late son Stevie was a patient in the hospice, officially opened the garden alongside NHS Fife Board Member Rona Laing and Ann...e Morton, Chair of the Queen Margaret Hospice Garden group.
The new garden, which is fully accessible, now provides an alternative area for patients and families to spend time together.
Tricia Marwick, Chair of NHS Fife, said: "This has been a remarkable community effort and one which will provide significant benefits for patients and their families.
"It would not have been possible without the vision and work of the Queen Margaret Hospice Garden Group, and the dedicated input from our staff and the community itself.
"So many people have played their part - countless individuals, families and groups have contributed donations and time - our sincere thanks to everybody who has been involved in this wonderful project."
Funding for the project has come from NHS Fife's Endowment Funds, several trusts, individual donations and through extensive fund-raising.

Since it is Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s a good time to start thinking about taking care of our own mental wellbeing - to increase our health, happiness and satisfaction with life.
Practising mindfulness is a great way to pay attention to our mental wellbeing. Here are seven top tips to help you bring a little more mindfulness into your daily life
1️⃣️Breathe – you are alive
... Breathing normally, become more aware as you take one or two conscious breaths – say to yourself ‘in’ as you breathe in and ‘out’ as you breathe out.
2️⃣️Ground yourself
Take a moment to feel the sensations in your feet and hands. Scan through the rest of the body with your attention. Listen to what it’s telling you and respond with kindness.
3️⃣ Come to your senses
Notice and savour the good things in your day that you can taste, smell, see, hear and touch.
4️⃣️One thing at a time
Forget multi-tasking. Try doing one thing at a time with your complete attention, even if it’s only for a few moments.
5️⃣️Three good things
Think about three things that went well for you today, even simple things like a smile from a friend or a good cup of coffee or the sun on your face.
6️⃣ Press your re-set button
Do what truly nurtures you – make a list and do these things whenever you can.
7️⃣️Give the best present to others
Be present. Listen with an open heart and mind, not waiting to jump in with your own agenda.
‘Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.’

On Sunday at the Old Kirk, Kirkcaldy, our Healthcare Chaplain, Stephen Steiner, led the Renal Unit's Annual Service of Remembrance.
Staff, families, friends and patients within the Unit came together to honour the memory of those Renal patients who have died this last year.
The theme was a ‘Light of Love’, where readings, music and the lighting of candles signified the meaningful place of those whose loved ones, held dear and sorely missed. The Service of Remembrance was ...also a time which commemorated the unique relationship which develops between staff, patients and families.
Those who attended met for light refreshments following the Service, and this was a time where people shared stories, providing each other with comfort and support. Many thanks is extended to all who were involved in organising this Service.

Take Stock - help us reduce medicines waste in Fife.
In the last year almost 28 tonnes of unused medicines were returned. These medicines cannot be reused and must be disposed of. The good news is there are things we can do to help...
By reducing wasted medicine we could increase the available funding for other health services in Fife.

We see far to often on T.V, hear on the radio and read in the press how poor the NHS is well that's a fallacy. 2014 has NOT been a great year for me and I have had cause to have a number of tests done and I can honestly say from the receptionist through to nurses, Dr and Consultants I could not have asked for better treatment. Efficient, kind, helpful and attentive With a few laughs thrown in !! When a patient is concern that helps also. My thanks to all the staff in the Endoscopy Unit the top and bottom part of health care!! You were all great thanks

User

Sent by my GP for a quick check at Victoria this morning - fast, friendly, efficient and effective. Spent longer in Costa queue than in hospital processes....thank you? You are great :)

User

My little boy had a croup attack at 2am by 3.15am we had been seen and treated and back home again at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline. Great service ...thank you so much!

User

Love this place. My brother and mother worked here. I was here 2 years ago for a fortnight on drips and infusions - they got my body back on track.

The staff are brilliant.

They are simply brilliant!

I think estates should be pushing people more often away from smoking under the maternity unit though! The staff and poor patients have to put up with the selfish ignorance of a few. Only gripe - and not the hospitals fault.

Brilliant staff - did I say that?

User

I would like to thank the staff at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy for the care and attention they gave my husband Harry during his recent emergency admission. When I contacted NHS 24, my call was handled quickly and efficiently with an ambulance despatched within minutes. On arrival at A&E, staff were prompt and thorough and an mobile X-Ray machine was taken to his bedside. The medical and nursing staff were professional and very approachable, introduced themselves and showed a real interest in my husband's case. I have nothing but praise and admiration for their care and expertise. Many thanks again, Kathleen & Harry Inglis

User

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff of Ward 34 for the care they gave my mother, Eileen foster, over Christmas and New Year.

I suppose there's never a 'good time' to be in hospital, but my mother and I appreciated how caring were all staff and how they treated her with respect, dignity and good humour. This was especially the case on New Year Day which was her birthday. 'Come on Eileen' indeed!

Thanks again to you all.

Best regards

I was seen and treated by staff today in Kirkcaldy a & e department and they were fantastic! Couldn't have done more for me. The Doctor I seen was brilliant, very understanding and caring especially when it came to inserting an IV into a patient with needle phobia. If this doctor wasn't as thorough as he was I could have been in a fatal position by this time.

All of the nurses and auxiliaries that treated me also did a great job even though it was very very close to shift change and they were in their twelfth hour.

After much negative press for the Victoria hospital here's some positive.

User

I was blue lighted into Victoria on Tuesday ... Still here :( ... The staff are quite simply Amazing..... I've been treated with the best care they could ever give (even when half their night was taken up by a non English speaking drunk) from A&E to AU1 to Ward 40 you guys are truly dedicated professionals - may your God bless you all MRB

I attended the cataract unit at Queen Margaret Hospital yesterday for my second cataract op. As an NHS employee myself it was interesting to have time while waiting to watch staff at work. Excellent professional service from moment of arrival. Staff working together and treating patients with care and compassion, and an amazing difference in my eyesight less than 24 hours later. Thank you all so much.

User

I am writing this review on behalf of my grandmother, a few months ago she spent several weeks in vic before getting transferred to glenrothes hospital. she stated that the staff at both hospitals were fantastic including all the domestics, auxiliaries and nurses, docs too. i am a staff nurse myself and often people are tooo quick to share the negatives rather than the positives of there experiences. My gran could not of happier with the care and service she received and is very grateful to everyone who cared for her.

User

A huge thanks to all staff who looked after my wee boy in The Vic, Kirkcaldy. I appreciate everything you all did for him. And he has his smile back now! :) I am grateful for the NHS and all the hard work you put in.

User

A couple of days ago my father in law passed away in Cameron hospital and I want to praise John Duffus and his staff for the care he received and for looking after the family at such a terrible time. Their care and understanding went above and beyond the call of duty. A special mention goes to Lynne Christie, Carol, Wendy and Hilary. Thank you for allowing him to remain the gentleman he was. Warmest regards Amanda & John

User

I like to say a huge thank you to all the staff I met yesterday. I was in the Queen Margaret in Dunfermline for a pre op assessment and met a fantastic nurse and receptionist who made me feel welcome and comforted about my pending op. Later in the day I ended up in a&e at the vic with terrible gallbladder pain and again cannot fault the staff or the care I received! Everyone was friendly, efficient and approachable. We are lucky to have a national health service in this country. Thank you again to everyone.

User

Today I went to the diabetic centre after a few problems with blood sugars and injection sites. Nobody had time to see me today!! I was told to make an appointment and now I have to wait for 4 weeks. I hope not to have a hypo between now & then. So much for NHS care

Nhs fife has got to be the worst in the country for neglectful care and treatment I have had fail after fail. With gp's, qmh, vhk, failings in antenatal care and almost 3 years on I'm still having a battle, for my daughter to get the best care as a child with a rare & complex condition. I wouldn't trust this health board with a gold fish!!

User

My dad had a scheduled appointment today at QMH with Dr Thomas. Despite nurses and secretaries chasing the Dr up he didn't bother turning up for the appointment. I know the NHS record statistics for patients that fail to attend appointments, do they do the same for DR's? Not impressed! What next NHS Fife? I felt sorry for the staff running about chasing this Dr up. They were apologetic and embarrassed because apparently its not unusual for this Dr to not turn up :-( I only give 1* because I can't give none.
