We have some exciting news to tell you, and no it’s not about flu.
In collaboration with NHS Borders and Robert Gordon University, we are now accepting applications for our first ‘Return to Nursing Practice Programme’.
As the title implies, this programme has been designed to give nurses, who have previously held a nursing registration, an opportunity to bring their life skills and experiences back into the nursing profession.
... Not only will you be financially supported through the programme, but you will also be offered a permanent contract as a register nurse when you successfully complete the programme.
Applications should be returned by Friday 16th November. Good luck!

Visiting Whitburn from Leeds, needed some antibiotics. Dealt with a fantastic OOH's GP at St Johns A&E (Dr Kerry Green) What a lovely lady, very grateful for the prompt appointment, Kerry put my 5 year old at ease, provided us with medication then & there - very impressed with how efficient everything was (compared to back home!). I wish all GP's could be modelled on Kerry she was amazing. Thank you very much

The staff on ward 19A at St Johns are just incredible! So hardworking, always smiling and always happy to help! Have really done their best to try get me on the mend. Makes me proud to work for the NHS

The maternity wards in ERI are staffed with the most caring, professional and sensitive midwives out there. I had a very long stay over the festive period and it was only made bearable by the entire team from the domestic staff to the consultants. Outstanding gold standard service and I will be eternally grateful. They deserve recognition for their commitment and determination to provide this caring environment. They gave me and my daughter the best possible start to our lives together. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Proud of our NHS. Proud of our midwives.

Thankyou to the excellent first responder, ambulance crew and A&E staff who looked after my wife when she needed care a few weeks ago. She is now doing well thanks to them.

I would also like to thank the wars sister who put my mind at rest. I was not able to go with my wife due to my own disability and the comfort and patience she showed was a blessing to me.

User

Thank you St John’s Hospital canteen! Nothing like your fabulous soups and rice pudding to keep us docs going.#lunchbreal

I was admitted into the royal infirmary for an inguinal hernia repair on both sides three weeks ago, I had never had surgery before. I was absolutely blown away by the care and attention I was given by surgeons and nurses. I was taken through step by step what I should expect and was amazed by how thorough they were at ensuring they had all the correct information. Afterwards the nurses were so kind and attentive, ensuring I was as comfortable as possible. I had considered getting my operation done privately, but I am so glad I didn't as I was humbled by how well the NHS staff cared for me, given the work load and resource they have. Thank you very much!

User

I think it appropriate to go on record to note my thanks for the care and dyer care I have received from all the staff who work for NHS Lothian after I received back surgery. The staff at the WGH were attentive, caring and informative throughout my time in hospital. My own GP surgery phoned me as a follow up to check I was ok and I have had my invite to physio already planned and I am only two weeks post op. An absolutely sterling response to my care and needs. Well done NHS Lothian. I have no doubt my positive recovery is in part due to your first class care and support.

User

I can’t fault our health service. My son was born 8 weeks early, and needed surgery to save his life. Mr Hammond at the sick kids performed this, and everything’s going smoothly thanks to the amazing staff at the sick kids for looking after Noah. And now the amazing staff at The Royal Infirmary Neonatal for his care he is still receiving there. It’s amazing what you guys do and I’m so thankful for yous. Without you all my son wouldn’t be here. Merry Christmas to all

I cant begin to say enough praise for the community outreach team, Bathgate who gave my sons last 18 months the happiest days of his life,my heartfelt thanks to Trevor,Hazel, june, eva and Karen, and most importantly his CPN Dan McGalpine.his friend and bro, whose patient skills were outstanding, not only did he take a huge weight of my family he was always there for my son Colin,he did more than his job as a CPN,way above his call of duty which we as a family will never forget his empathy, professionalism and most importantly his friendship.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ,Colins family xx

Having just come through an operation at St John’s hospital, I felt the need to go into print on my treatment.

Some politicians would have us believe that the NHS is falling down around us and it`s all doom and gloom.

This contrasted sharply with my experience, it was completely professional, there were no delays, the doctors were expert and the nursing care was 1st class. In my view it was nothing short of excellent from start to finish.

I wanted to put this on record and to extend my personal thanks to all the NHS staff at Lauriston Place and St Johns.

Having developed a squint out of the blue two weeks ago, our 2-year-old son had an appointment at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion 10 days after the referral, from there we were referred to the neurology department at the Sick Kids hospital and seen on the same day, and an MRI scan was done on the following day. Thankfully the scans came back all clear and we got to breathe a massive sigh of relief. I just wanted to express our gratitude for the NHS and the incredible people who work there!! So impressed how quickly we got seen, all appointments were on time, and the staff really friendly and working hard to put our minds at rest. We couldn't be more grateful for everything. Thank you NHS Lothian!!!

As a first time expectant mummy I had a wee scare after not feeling any movement for a few hours which is very unusual for our baby, and I was extremely panicked. We phoned the labour ward at St John's where the midwife was very calming in everything she said to me, and said to pop up when I felt ready to and they would do some obs. When we got there I was seen by the charge midwife who was on shift she reassured me and my husband not to worry and as soon as she hooked me up to all the machines there it was a very strong normal heartbeat. They kept me hooked up for 20 mins just to monitor our baby and had the doctor come see us to do a quick scan, through all the time we were there I felt a little silly for panicking and felt I had waisted the time of all the staff we spoke with but all of them told me that I had done the right thing by phoning and not to hesitate if it happened again. The service we got was 100% and I now feel very confident and at ease knowing our baby will be born with the help of these amazing ladies.

User

We would like to thank the staff in A&E at St Johns Hospital on Saturday night/early hours of Sunday morning who looked after our mum. S/N M Muir & Dr Adam Marshall were very caring towards her which made her experience a lot better. The staff on MAU and Wd 21 have taken great care of her since. It is brilliant to have such a caring team looking after her 😀 x

User

Disgusted by Bathgate Primary Care sending my daughter away whilst having an asthma attack to travel to her own GP this would normally be the case but it happened whilst at her work right across the road from the practise. My father who rushed to collect her spoke with the duty doctor whos only question was 'is she turning blue'!! Really? Asthma is so unpredictable, my daughter who is registered as 'high risk' by the respiratory consultant at st johns hospital had to stuggle for 10 mins until she arrived at her own gp's where she was nebulised put on antibiotics and given steroid treatment to be taken over the next 5 days. One day this will happen and things will go terribly wrong and who then will be held accountable, in emergency situations if you have the medication required to treat a patient why not? People train for years in their professions with the value of 'care' going out the window and budgets taking over such a shame. A letter of complaint will also be submitted to the practise involved. Thank you

‪@NHS_Lothian well... I had to go to hospital early doors on the 21st of February at the royal infirmary in Edinburgh. As 2 weeks ago I broke my ankle in 3 places also got metal pins. So as I was getting ready my sister noticed there was blood on my ankle she called NHS 24 they told me go to the hospital so I went I can’t believe how ruid the nurse was. As he took my moon boot off and the banged and told me everything was fine. all off a sudden I felt dizzy and passed out for a few seconds and my foot feel off the stool the nurse can back and asked me what was going on I was dizzy and passing out how where I ment to answer him. Then he came back and said I can go home I told him I feel sick and dizzy I was sweeting and chalk white he bandaged my foot back up and as he was doing that I passed out again and the exact word he said to me as my sister was with me was ‘oh Sharon behave’ my sister then took me home. ‬I don’t know what goes on in Edinburgh royal infirmary but there no need in a nurse to treat to like that when your in hospital.

They are a joke

Waited an hour an a half for an ambulance (SAS ) which never turned up for my 20 month old with significant head injury. Had to drive up to St Johns hospital before waiting hours to be even triaged. 3 children in tow. Told on friday that there would be around a 5/6 hour wait. NHS lothian a&e st johns in complete meltdown. An utter disgrace to have a little one with a head injury wait that long. Formal complaints being made. Hang your head in shame NHS lothian. You failed my little boy

User

Throughly discussed with the way my 86 year old grandmother was treated! Was taken in at 7.30 am for a knee replacement and was sent home at 5pm after being told there was no sterile tools for her operation (how it took till 5pm to realise this is beyond me!!)baring in mind she had been fasting since midnight and had been sitting in a waiting room all that time .She had been on the waiting list for 15 weeks and has been told she will have to wait another at least 7 weeks. When we went to pick her up she was in tears and extremely weak! This is a woman who had worked hard and paid her taxes her whole working life!! I would be very interested to see who was taken for their operation that day!!!!!!!!! Disappointed to say the least. An animal

Would be treated better than that.

Celebrating 70 years for nhs...... going by some of the reviews on this page we should be ashamed of it

So I'm moaning!!! My dad has been in a ward for 2 weeks now and the television hasn't been working for over a week...some might say I am being petty...but no wonder he is loosing track of the days, the days and hours are so long. The small window to visit is not always suitable for people who work full time!!! Low and behold it's not broken it's is because the remote control is lost!! Seriously and you can't "borrow" one from another bay to switch the thing on!! Some patients don't even receive visits so must be even longer for them.

Currently patiently waiting to get into the ward with my own universal remote control to activate the NHS property to shorten the very long day!!

Oh and did I mention it is situated above an opened door!?!?!

User

Honestly the NHS is a joke if it was up to me there would not be any rateing been waiting for a year now for dermatology to give me a appointment and it's my skin I can't sleep and can't do anything im itchy 24 hours a day and all the do is give me cream and tablets and my doctor just like keep takeing this cause she dosent know what it is its beyond a joke would rather help people from other country's than there own should be ashamed of there self
