Is this your cat?
This lovely cat has been handed into us as she was found at Kilblane quarry, Locharbriggs, where there were lots of machinery around. She is very friendly and has a short tail. Please contact our surgery on 01387 253402

As we are getting closer to Christmas, it is very important to remember that some of the goodies we will enjoy over the festive period are not safe for our pets....
ūüéĄ CHOCOLATE - chocolate contains theobromine, which dogs and cats are sensitive to. Ingestion, especially of dark chocolate, can cause tummy upset, and cardiovascular and central nervous system stimulation
ūü§∂ COOKED BONES - bones can splinter into sharp pieces that can cause choking and serious damage to your pet's... mouth, throat and intestines
ūüéĀ DRIED FRUIT - raisins, currants and sultanas are in Christmas cakes, mince pies etc. These can cause renal failure in pets
‚õĄ ONIONS - gravy and stuffing may contain onions, which can cause anaemia in dogs and cats. Symptoms include paleness, lethargy, weakness, stomach upset and haematuria
ūüéÖ ALCOHOL - pets develop the same signs as people when they ingest alcohol, such as drowsiness and lack of coordination, and in severe cases there can be hypoglycaemia and metabolic acidosis
ūüéĄ MOULDY LEFTOVERS - can cause tremors and seizures due to the presence of tremorgenic mycotoxins
Other things to watch out for are ingestion of Christmas decorations and ribbons etc (can cause blockages), certain plants (such as poinsettia, lilies, holly) as they can cause tummy upset.
Make sure everyone has a very merry, safe Christmas ūüźĺ

Locharbriggs Primary School (p3 and 4) came to visit the vets for their ‚ÄėWorld of Work Week‚Äô. Vet Cheryl and nurse Lesley had a great time showing the children round. They were very helpful looking after the poorly teddy dog, checking for microchips and who doesn‚Äôt love looking at pots full of worms!!! ūüź∂ ūüźĪ

**Pet Travel to Europe After Brexit**
The government have released advice for pet owners intending to travel to any EU country after 29th March 2019 in the unlikely event of the UK leaving the EU without a deal. The government are committed to achieving a deal with the EU but in the unlikely event they do not, they have a duty as a responsible government to plan for every eventuality.
Any pet owners planning to travel after 29th March 2019 should contact us before 28th Novem...ber 2018 to discuss arrangements or at least 4 months before travel.
If there is no deal, pet passports issued in the UK would not be valid for travel to the EU.
Further information can be found on the government website or by contacting Nithsdale Vets on 01387253402
