Herriot-Watt Rock Society Refreshers gig.
4 sick bands for a fiver, come one down!

Upon entering the venue I was taken with the aroma of cheap drinks and lowered standards and knew this was the place for me. Although my first visit was brief as the giant neon sign suggesting the toilets and bathroom were one and the same misled me and micturition from the stage is frowned upon. In a sad turn of events my second visit was also brief as dancing in the women's toilets is also apparently a faux pas and I was once again prematurely asked to leave. Having learned the law of the land upon my third visit I was welcomed by the handsome door staff and thus began my love affair with this beautifully dirty rotten scum bar and frequented the place at any chance. Some people play hard to get I play hard to want but the cheapest drinks in town are usually enough to elevate any of the eclectic mix of freaks at Opium to Lothario. If you're into Drinking, Rock n Roll and generally being Rad I'll f#cking see you at Opium c*nt. I do miss the tall Australian bartender with beautiful blue eyes though.

This is my favourite place for a night out.

There are amazing deals and even though prices are abit more for house drinks now you are getting what you pay for, friendly staff, clean, nicely served, professional, safe, good music that has a different Dj each night so everyone gets a chance to listen to there favourite songs (also a jukebox downstairs) and the refurb makes the environment welcoming for everyone.

It shows that you don't have to be dressed all in biker metal gear to enjoy alternative music, now it's a style for everyone to experience and have good, very drunken memories in :D

Also the Dj on Sundays has an amazing bum, I want to lick that bum.

Ryan is the most friendly barman in Edinburgh. If you want a good night, beautiful music, and a 'feel at home' attitude - head to Opium



Ask for Ryan - your drink messiah. I hope he sticks around.

Played a show here tonight. Sound guy was exceptional, great staff, cheap drinks, good music, what more could you want?! :-)

Opium was my fave before the refurb and love it even more now! Awesome bar staff, but who is the guy with the cripple on the bar �

The best service I have ever received from a club, the best barman hands down is always RYAN, tells a joke while serving drinks and is extremely efficient, I had to tip him...

Love the music here, feel right at home. Nothing beats a bit of hard core metal 🎶 Great atmosphere, cheap drink and, free entry, what's not to love, my favourite club in Edinburgh 👍

It's the best place ever, my experience here was great , love the atmosphere, love the music and everything. Feels very homely and I'll be returning very soon. Best bar tender in my opinion was Ryan, and he helped me to pick a. lovely vodka coke �

I love it here! Great staff always friendly, and love the music they play! Great night out with great priced drinks, opium fucking rocks.

Had an amazing night! From Nottingham and met an amazing guy who stayed with us on 'bank holiday weekend' and we tried some 'Scottish' drinks with him! So welcoming and a lovely night !overall amazing night �

Fantastic venue, always has been always will be. The new refurbishment, although a lot different to what opium was like 10 years ago, is exactly what the venue needed. It is now a exciting fresh and clean place to come and drink some GOOD beers and spirits. For those on a budget it is also an amazing cheep place to come and drink. The door staff don't discriminate anyone on the door so all are welcome, so there is always a real exciting mix of people. There are always amazing live gigs upstairs from lots of local bands and some bigger named ones on tours, and some different acoustic sets down stairs, these both add a little more life to the venue during the early hours of the night. AND the staff are pretty sexy too(excluding the manager, he's not sexy at all) ;)

Fantastic rock bar and club. Music selection played was excellent, cheap drinks and a great crowd of fun people �

Amazing place to listen some good music like metal and rock! Cheap drinks and sometimes live music, will return again

New years was fantastic. Playing real metal like Opium should instead of the normal Saturday DJ that just plays the same stuff that gets played in Hive on a Tuesday. We need more nights with the music that was played lastnight. Keep up the good work opium! �

Jack did a cracking job djing Halloween honestly best night iv had in opium in a long time. Will be back down to see him
