(Fran) It was wonderful to have this beautiful and poignant work of art projected onto the cathedral, and we are delighted that it has been shortlisted for an award. Many congratulations to all those involved.

(Jude) Corrigall Farm Museum will be closed on Sunday 12 May due to staff shortages. Kirbuster Museum (pictured) will be open as normal 12.00 - 17.00. Apologies for any inconvenience.

(Clare) I am really delighted that following two recent reviews we have had our Museums Accreditation status confirmed for a further five years and also our archeology collection has had its recognised collection status confirmed after a five year review. This is down to the dedication and hard work of the entire team and I thank each and every one of them.

The survey to record all the graffiti marks in the cathedral continues....this pillar has a lot of devotional marks, likely to have been made by pilgrims in the Middle Ages.

(Antony) Here is a further update to the Scapa 100 events programme between 15 - 27 June. Lots to see and do to explore this unique story. https://mailchi.mp/e1c8ceb4c71c/scapa-100 -programme…

(Tom) Sheena Graham-George, who has just had an exhibition with us, is creating another inspiring and thoughtful art istallation. Would you like to be involed. Send a message and I will pass you on to her.
CALLING ALL KNITTERS! Would any of my wonderful female Orkney FB knitting friends be interested in being part of a trial art project which is part of my PhD? I’m hoping to eventually create a temporary installation here in Orkney ahead of the final one in Ireland next year... but really would like to trial the idea here amongst friends and friends of friends first. Basically – it’s going to be an installation of small felted houses in memory of the mothers who were buried within the cillini (the unbaptised children’s burial grounds). The reasons they were buried there ranges from having children out of wedlock, dying in childbirth and sometimes dying un-churched. The history books say very little about them to the extent they have become virtually invisible and there is no record of how many mothers found the cillín as their last resting place. If you would like to take part (or know anyone who might) – or would like to know more then just pm me and I’ll send you all the info.

(Tom) The new summer exhibition opens today. '1919: The Scuttling of the German Fleet' tells the story of why the German ships were interned here, why they were scuttled and the aftermath.

(Jude) Corrigall Farm Museum will be closed on Monday 6 May due to staff shortages. If you were planning to visit, why not go along to Kirbuster Museum in Birsay instead, where you'll find a great welcome.
