Very rich in history. Loved it! Wish I could have taken pictures inside, but you can't. Go see it for yourself! The grounds are beautiful. Plus, they kept one really old portion up despite it falling to pieces.

Beautiful, historical and fascinating.
I love it here and despite only having gone a couple of times, I can't ever wait to go back!
It's great for kids too - I took my two little cousins and they loved learning about the history of it.
Hopefully, it'll be soon!

A nice place to visit and hear about the history and current life of the monarchs. Some old rooms, kept as they have been. Some stairs make accessibility difficult. As with many such places you can't take photos inside. You also don't see much of it - with two young children it took us about an hour or so. We couldn't see the garden as we visited in the winter months.

I honestly enjoyed this very much. You get audio sets when you arrive and it helps you understand what happened in each room. Will take you 2-3 hours to go through the whole thing and the Abbey is amazing to look at. Even though its current with the English houses and not Scottish, it still looks at the life of Mary, queen of Scots which I found very interesting. Would recommend this to my family and friends.

The Palace inside is lovely and interesting. The Staff onsite are helpful. Audio guides are short yet attention-holding and informative.

The ruined abbey is stunning architecturally and the gardens provide more of the calm and quiet atmosphere that oozes around the grounds. There are nice views of Arthur's seat in the gardens

As a note to guests on wheelchairs, There are some parts of the palace that have no disabled access whatsoever, but assistance from staff is available if needed.

A normal visit that sees all parts would last around 90-120 minutes.

It is best to visit the grounds when it is sunny and a little cloudy for visitors looking to snap optimal quality photos of Arthur's Seat.

Lots of history here! Rooms of furniture and informational plaques, lovely grounds to stroll through. Entrance fee a bit pricey but you've got to go at least once. Lots to see and shop on the Royal Mile between the Castle and the Palace.

Includes excellent audio tour headset and self guided tour inside and the gardens. Just the right length and detail. Very helpful and informed staff. Cafe has a nice selection of hot and cold items with beautiful indoor and outdoor seating (not crowded).

The palace is quaint and beautiful. The gardens around it are a perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon. The rooms are beautiful and well kept. The tickets however seem a bit expensive.

Some quite interesting pieces and a good audio tour. Take your headphones with you to make it more comfortable. Only 3 stars though, because personally I'm more interested in looking at great artwork rather than getting a lecture about history.

User

Really nice place. Next to the Parliament, you can take the tour to see how the Queen's family stay in Scotland. You won't be able to take any pictures inside, but the rooms are really interesting. You can take pictures in the courtyard and the Abby. The audio guided tour is good enough.

Amazing working palace used by HM Queen when she is in Edinburgh each year. 1000 years of history of Scotland and monarchs.

User

Beautiful functioning palace with a lot of history. Make sure you take the walkie talkie when you get your tickets otherwise you won't be able to find out the history of the place. It's fascinating history can come in a number of languages however, I didn't find it as interactive. The restaurant and gift shop on site are quite good.

User

Didn't feel it was worth the money. No interactive experience, although audio guides are provided. Very short tour. Probably not great for kids. Nice buildings and great view but you can see it all from anywhere.

Gloomy and depressing

One of the most depressing palaces I have ever visited.

Interior walls covered in faded tapestries and pictures. With lights reduced to conserve what's left of them. It makes for a very Gloomy experience.

The overall impression is of a threadbare rather than glorious past.
