PARC CARS, DUNDEE - Dodgy Dealer - buyer beware! Also trades as C L Castlewood Ltd.

Update - April 2017 - the National Fraud Intellegence Bureau has now instigated an inverstigation into this company and its new trading as name C L Castlewood.

One star because 'none' is not an option.

In March 2016 our son bought a car from Parc Cars Ltd, Dundee for £3500. He'd saved up for the car and was attracted by the very professional advertising by this company, who said they'd been trading for over 20 years (in fact only 18 months, at that time, according to Companies House), and that they were partnered by the RAC (not true).

Less than 5 miles from the showroom the car broke down. After some investigation at a local garage and an inspection by DVSA we discovered the car was not roadworthy and would need around £2,500 spent to make it right.

The car was found to have been previously damaged resulting in a defective power steering pump. If the steering failed at speed death or serious injury could result, for those in the car and anyone in path of the unsteerable car. Later, in court McMurchie said he knew there were faults with the car when he sold it.

The day after the breakdown we made Parc Cars Ltd owner, Lee McMurchie, aware we wanted to reject the car for a refund under the new Consumer Rights Act 2015. He said he'd by it back but at a lesser price as he didn't want to be out of pocket! Although he was happy enough for our son to lose out. (The consumer rights act 2015 changed last October and now allows the buyer 30 days to reject goods for a full refund. Dealers no longer have the right to try to fix car first. )

We didn't think McMurchies 'offer' was fair as we'd filled the car with fuel, road taxed it and paid for a garage inspection to prove car was not fit for purpose (with his agreement) - and we'd had it for it less than an hour when it broke down!!

McMurchie then became abusive, refused to have any more communication with us and ultimately we took the business to court and in October won the case with Parc Cars ordered to pay us £5000. McMurchie's response to this was a one word email to us saying 'whatever' and has refused to pay the debt.

Worse though, is that McMurchie seems to be trying to pull off a scam well known in the motor trade (according to the officials we've spoken with) - setting up a Phoenix company. By transferring the assets from Parc Cars Ltd to his new company C L Castlewood Ltd he thinks there's nothing which can be seized to pay the debts of Parc Cars and he's continuing to sell cars to unwitting members of the public under the same name - Parc Cars.

This trader just ignores the Consumer Rights Act AND Court Orders and becomes abusive if challenged.

Just bought a puegot 207 sw from this firm

I paid my money - drove my car away, after agreeing to return it in two days to get a new part fitted (as they had no time to fit it before agreed collection day/time)
Took car back as agreed- part fitted - No paperwork offered
I returned twice to query unable to open boot and an extremely hot engine and bonnet
Lee re-assured me this was normal and I should not worry. 'I was looking at the car the wrong way' I should only be concerned if a warning sign appeared on the dash.
Two days later a warning sign on my interior dash - anti-pollution
I returned the car.
After 3 days I called to be informed that no 'anti-pollution' sign appeared during any time they, or the garage they use, had the car. However, they were aware this could occur after an oil and air filter change, so checked. and cleaned some parts. No paperwork offered to confirm this either
When I picked up my car the politeness had disappeared and I was more or less told to stop being paranoid, and I felt Lee did not believe me about the anti-pollution sign appearing on the dash.
I drove the car away and within two minutes the fan came on making a loud buzzing noise that could be heard 20 meters away.
Concerned, I returned to Lee who told me this was normal, (even though it didn't happen before it was returned to them)
The next day I noticed a bad oil leak and called Lee
I was met with a surprising response.
He was very abrupt and brought up my visits to the garage with my previous concerns stating there was nothing wrong with the car and they had been nothing but helpful. He informed me that I was looking for faults. He then made a big deal out of my concern about the anti-pollution sign on the dashboard and how they didn't see it. He stopped just short of calling me a liar.
At this point he stated that the car has a warranty and I shouldn't keep bringing my problems to him (even though I've only had it for two weeks, and they gave a 28 day warranty to bring back to them with any faults)
At this point I decided to take the car to another garage as I felt Lee only seen me as a nuisance, rather than a customer who paid him good money for a car he sold.
I went to another garage who very quickly diagnosed the oil leak from the 'Rocker Head'. If not attended to this oil would run dry and cause more serious problems. The immediate concern is that the oil is leaking onto the belt which, even I know, can completely ruin the car if not attended too. I have booked the car into this garage as they were good enough to believe me and take my concerns seriously.
I did call Lee to let him know there has been a problem identified and I'm not paranoid
He did offer me to take the car back stating that they did take off the Rocker head.
However, I declined, as I do not appreciate being told 'I was looking for faults'. I informed Lee I was taking it to the garage that listened to me and were helpful, not telling me they are fed up of my paranoia !!
Buyers beware - Once they have your money - you become a nuisance, and any problems with a car you buy very quickly become your problems
I've driven the car less than 200 miles. It's going to cost me around £200 to get this problem, and faulty wiring (re fan noise) fixed but I'd rather pay this money than keep getting told 'I'm looking at the car wrong'

My advice-- Only buy a car from this firm if your looking to spend more money getting it road worthy yourself.

Ps only getting one star because I could not give lower

Saw Skoda Fabia - good miles, good price. Arrived much earlier than expected but car still ready, despite wiper blade faulty, which they sorted in 5 minutes. All admin done in 10 mins in a friendly and professional manner. Despite being an older car and having 67k miles I received a 6 month warranty . Drove back to Peterhead with no problems and car still going strong . Would highly recommend to anyone !
