CounterCulture ŌĆō a PCS Union Art Exhibition
As part of our STUC-funded project in ScotlandŌĆÖs cultural institutions, including the National Galleries and Museums, weŌĆÖd like to invite you and your branch to attend the opening night party of the workersŌĆÖ art exhibition at Whitespace Gallery on Friday 14th September, starting at 5pm till late.
Work is often something we do to get by, to get paid, to pay our bills, to have a bit of financial freedom. We spend our lives at work, s...ometimes unfulfilled, underpaid, under used. In ScotlandŌĆÖs galleries, museums and cultural institutions, workers have a huge range of skills, stories, knowledge and experience about the work they do. This knowledge is crucial to transforming and improving working lives. This project is part of a wider initiative that helps workers use their skills to talk about justice at work and to reinvigorate the cultural output of the trade union movement.
All art on display will be original pieces by workers in ScotlandŌĆÖs cultural organisations tackling the theme of ŌĆśworkŌĆÖ, as well as material from the Scottish Trades Union Congress archive. The exhibition will run from Friday the 14th of September to Sunday the 16th of September. Details of the opening night event are below.
Opening Night Party Location: Whitespace Gallery, 76 East Crosscauseway, Edinburgh, EH8 9HQ Date: 14th September Time: from 5pm
Reserve your space here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/countercultu re-workers-art-exhŌĆ” Or RSVP to fional@pcs.org.uk
The exhibition opens at 5, but people are welcome to attend throughout the night. Refreshments and entertainment throughout the evening.

The Scottish Young Members Network are launching a film club that will run a series of events throughout the year where people can come together to discuss movies, politics and campaigns in a friendly and sociable environment.
All proceeds from these events will go towards supporting campaigning activities of the Network throughout the year.
The launch of the Film Club will coincide with Black History Month celebrations in October, where we will have a screening of the awar...d-winning movie 'Moonlight'. 'Moonlight' became the first film with an all-black cast and the first LGBTQ film to win an Oscar for Best Picture, telling the coming-of-age story of a young African-American man growing up in a deprived Miami neighborhood.
We will be joined by guest speaker, Suki Sangha from the STUC Black Workers Committee.
There will be a raffle and prize draw on the evening of the event.
All are welcome to attend to support the PCS Young Members Network ŌĆō you donŌĆÖt have to be a young member to attend! Tickets are priced at ┬Ż5 for waged and ┬Ż2.50 for low-waged/unwaged workers.
Doors open from 7pm with film screening beginning at 7:30pm sharp.
For more information, to purchase a ticket for the event or donate a raffle prize, please contact Jenni at the Glasgow hub on jennifer@pcs.org.uk.

During the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Leith Gurdwara was petrol bombed. Luckily no one was hurt during the arson attack but the Sikh Temple has sustained fire damage.
PCS Scotland send our deepest sympathy to the Gurdwara and stand in solidarity with the Edinburgh Sikh community.
We are facing a massive rise in racism in Britain and across the globe. Now, more than ever we need to stand united to show that we will not be divided, and that there is no place for raci...sm and hate crimes within our communities.
We would encourage all members in the Leith and the wider Edinburgh area to attend the peaceful vigil tomorrow, Thursday 30th August from 5.30-6.30pm outside the Gurdwara at 1 Sherrif Brae, EH6 6ER.

The following joint statement from PCS, Prospect and the FDA is below:
ŌĆ£Civil service unions met with the Permanent Secretary today and have confidence that the Scottish Government will continue to take seriously and handle sensitively all complaints of harassment.
The unions are confident that the Scottish Government processes which we negotiated are valid and robust and if any member wishes to make a complaint then they will receive the full support of their trade union.
... We also indicated our full support to the Permanent Secretary personally in leading the process and would encourage any worker with any concerns to come forward."
