We have just returned from an overnight stay for my daughters 2nd birthday and I honestly can't fault it. I stayed at peebles every easter and in the summer when I was growing up from a baby to a teenager and yes it has changed dramatically from the grand old hotel it used to be but we had a lovely stay regardless. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, the hotel itself was looking great and we had a lovely refurbished family room (requested on booking), the breakfast was great with lots of choice and plenty fresh food out and quick table service at a busy time. My girls just loved the hotel, we swam twice and used the family changing room at the poolside, there seemed to be lots of activities on and lots of new things in and around the hotel and grounds which was good to see. It is certainly undergoing major refurbishment and yes there is a loss of character along with it which is sad but as someone who grew up here I am pleased with what I am seeing so far and will definitely return with my family again and again x

User

Very happy with our DBB stay. We had a refurbished room with great views. The Restaurant was a great experience, food was great. Staff were all friendly. The hotel has lots of history and character. The Pool and leisure facility's all clean and a good size.

Yes some parts are still to be refurbished but its an old building and all the key parts are very modern. Would defiantly recommend to family and friends and return.

User

The newly updated rooms are amazing woth high ceilings and windows that open. The staff were super helpful and friendly. My dad stayed in one of the older rooms which didn't smell nice and was tiny but if u stay in the newly refurbished room it's amazing. The soups I had there tasted really good and I was happy that they were dairy free.

The inside of the hotel kind of reminded me of downtown abbey with the decor and high ceilings and the view outside was absolutely beautiful and stunning. I hope to stay here again one day. Also we were lucky to have 2 sunny days there but I was told it's normally cold and Rainy. This hotel also has a lot of interesting history as it's a really old building. Highly recommend!!

User

Stayed 3 nights in an upgraded family room. Room was clean, spacious and had everything in it that was needed. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Evening meal was a treat, really nice. Kids had plenty to do and loved the pool.

Yes it’s still in need of refurbishment in areas but this only adds to the character of the fantastic building it is!

Would definitely return.

User

Now this hotel is an example to others on how to get it right. A lovely historical building with beautiful public rooms that have been subject to a major refurbishment plan. Efficient reception staff who greet you with eye contact and a smile. Staff who greet you in corridors. Lovely rooms with nice touches such as soaps etc. Dinner is very enjoyable. Waiting staff with excellent service skills, having been briefed by an outstanding restaurant manager. Delicious food, with attention to detail and special requests, such as providing a full menu for a vegan guest. The whole experience at the Peebles Hydro makes you feel special. You feel like you are smiling inside and you come away relaxed and happy.

User

Just back from a brilliant weekend in Peebles Hydro for my mum's 60th Birthday. 13 of us in total. Highly recommend it. Staff and service was brilliant from the minute we arrived until the end, nothing was ever too much hassle. A special thanks to John from the restaurant who was just brilliant. Also the girls on reception were fab too, one girl in particular with long dark hair (sorry didn't catch her name) was amazing and so helpful. Food was lovely with buffet style for kids and as much juice as they like. Can't wait to go back. Thank you!

User

Had a fantastic time. The staff, the food and the room were all well above our expectations. It’s the first time we’ve take Our 12 year old dog away with us and couldn’t of asked for a better experience. Will definitely be visiting again. Oh and I now blame the staff for my love of gin !!

User

Absolutely loved start to finish on this visit. All the staff are fabulous and very helpful. Spa treatment was amazing and just what we needed. Dining experience was excellent and the food was devine. Room service was perfect . Gin tasting and live music was great . Will definitely return x

User

A wonderful hotel!!!! Our room is a beautiful 2 bedroom suite so plenty of room for my 2 and a half year old to run around. The food at breakfast is yummy and the picnic shop is so cute and do the yummiest little iced biscuits!! We’ve enjoyed going to the pool every day (the snow has prevented us from going out too much) and I had a wonderful massage in the spa! Love it here and will definately return!!!

User

I stayed one night at the hydro for a girls treat for my mums birthday. I liked the venue as a whole very quirky and historical looking. Staff were very welcoming. We had lunch at the picnic cafe as we arrived too early to check in, it was nice. Our room was lovely we went for the upgraded family room for 4. It was unique in design and was very modern in decor. The view from our window was lovely. The pool was a bit disappointing. It is in a nice room with lots of windows however pool was freezing, jacuzzi was not working and it was filled with kids. Not a very spa feeling. We didn’t stay there long. We could only book in for 1 treatment as it was almost fully booked. My mum had a massage as it was her birthday. She said it was great. The rest of us weren’t too fussed about not getting treatment though. We had 2 course dinner in restaurant, 3 out of 4 of us really enjoyed our meals. We all enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. There was some areas in the hotel that looked as though it could be doing with a refurb in the halls etc. There was workers on site when we were there. Would advise not to book if it’s for mainly spa day your looking for but was a good hotel for a short break.

User

Slightly disappointed with the hotel, it is in beautiful surroundings and looks lovely from the outside, it’s a bit tired on the inside although they are in the midst of refurbishing, the main foyer carpet was old, worn & thread bare, our room was nothing special and despite being recently refurbished still had the old and very dated furniture in it, although it had a beautiful view, Tea/coffee facilities were sparse, no water in the room for drinking, the Gin Palace was basically a green house with bottles of gin in it, the dining room which had been refurbished was so out of place in the hotel and looked like an Ikea cafe, the menu was very poor and disappointing with not one Scottish dish on it, they didn’t have the seafood bisque and the waitress said they had never had it since the menu came out!

We had the gin tempura prawns and the pea/cod risotto and it was very bland and tasteless, the pineapple & coconut crumble & rum raisin ice cream which was basically tinned pineapple sprinkled with coconut & cooked in the oven! There was not a bit of crumbled near it, breakfast was fine, all you needed but was a bit sparse as it wasn’t topped up, in checking out we asked if they would like some feed back so we said about the food/menu &. restaurant setting saying maybe managers would like to know and she seemed most uninterested and offered no Apologies, we never got the chance to use the spa/ leisure facilities, so can’t comment, and it appeared really well set up for young families and children with activities etc but again can’t comment, there is a fantastic little gift shop with some beautiful Scottish gifts and little different things and a very lovely woman running it whom we had a lovely

Chat with, I would say an ok stay but nothing that would make us want to return.

Purchased over night with dinner and beakfast and bottle of wine as a gift. When my parents arrived at 1.55pm for a 2pm.check in they were told their room wasnt available. They decided to go for a walk returning over an hour later to be told there was still.no room available for them. After some persistance they were offered one of the newly updated family rooms, which was orginally booked. Once in the room my mother overheard voices in her room. A man from the hotel walked into the room being confronted by my dad as to what he wanted and he was told he was taking the bottle of wine away to take to another room. My dad refused this and told him the wine in the room was part of the booking. At dinner although the food was very nice they reported that the service was shocking. They had to attract members of staffs attention on 3 separate occasions to obtain service. The lounge area they were not able to use as other guests were sitting around in their robes with wet hair having used the spa / swimming facilities. Overall a disappointing stay at what is a beautiful location.

User

Just back from here it has defiantly went down hill food was not as good and we felt the restaurant was like a canteen staff were lovely can’t fault them I can honestly say I don’t think I’ll be back what made it more horrible was my son bought it for us for our Christmas and it was hard earned

User

Rooms were very small even tho paided extra for refurbished room shower was rubbish no pressure food was lovely staff very good but seemed to rushed off three feet very short staffed . Very poor set up for being dog hotel dogs were not in one area were in rooms next to people not like other hotels I have been in and very strange on the 3rd floor off a hotel . We had one next door to us and when left 2 nights in row on its own was barking and crying contacted the hotel who just repeated we are a dog hotel not very interested we are very big dog people our selfs but the set up for dogs was not right at all

User

Had a really disappointing staying here last month.

Booked a weekend away for my anniversary, and I was mortified at the condition of the room. The feature room which was meant to be more superior to a standard room was very tired looking with stains on the carpet, the main light was faulty and when complained we were told it would be looked at (but not during our time there) and the bathroom was a disabled wet room with a pathetic excuse for a shower.

It’s a shame that such a beautiful looking hotel , in the most amazing surrounding, can be such a disappointment to stay in. I would struggle to recommend it to friends.

User

Check in was less than informative or welcoming which was disappointing . Be aware the pool changing rooms are being refurbished which makes the visit to the spa less than relaxing . Directed to spare bedrooms with no secure storage so ended up going back to room which was a faff. Turns out the less than effusive receptionist was meant to offer us robes and tell us about spa. Nice room with amazing view but only one small radiator under a window so was cold . Most staff nice and helpful but overall disappointed compared to my last visit .

User

Came here yesterday for a spa day sorry but the pool area its disgusting your change room is 0 stars! half of your lockers are not in use some have huge holes in them. There is a odor in the changing room that is like rot. As for the pool area the only thing in it was the sauna that has been updated but the whole of the leisure facilities really needs an update. Why you got 2 stars was for the rest of the hotel it is nice and is quirky love the little diffrent areas and staff that done our treatments were polite and really helpful.

User

We, my two sisters and myself booked into this hotel for Dinner, bed n breakfast. Just a little spring treat. The room was basic but clean. Two of the rooms were cold but after calling to report this, the engineer attended to fix the problem very quickly. But, the big big let down was the food. You are given £25 towards your "dinner" I wish we had just booked in B&B and went out for our evening meal. We did complain but all we were offered was a drink, which we refused. Needless to say we will not be going back ever.

Spa day: What a horrible experience we had last week. The place is run down and needs work.

1.ladies changing rooms out of order so all ladies had to take turns using the spa one room, no mirror to change in.

2. Pool and pool area are run down cold and dirty

3. Massage was horrible, our backs were sore before we went we were looking forward to a massage. We both said firm to the therapist. I would hate to see what light was as we both came out thinking it was a tickle.

4. When calling to say I had a diatary requirement. No dairy means no dairy this covers anything that comes from a cow. Milk, butter, cheese, cream, chocolate. It is not a gluten intolerance its dairy and no I can eat eggs.

Both the chef and the waiter were concerned as the gluten free scones had egg in them. - We can eat wheat and flour. I am lactose intolerant.

The scones were tiny and we were starving as we were expecting afternoon tea not 4 little tiny scones.

We were hanging around all day waiting.

I will be writing a letter to the manager.
