POST-MATCH MEAL?!?! - Carrying on the theme from our previous posts, we thought we would have a quick snapshot look at the Post-Match Meal. Given that the players at #russia2018 will have performed a 90-min match, possibly even more given the latest matches ⚽ it’s clear there will be a depletion in the glycogen levels in the body. Hopefully this will be partly combatted with the correct mid match snack, however to address this further there are 3 key points: - ✅ Rehydrate - a...s we highlighted last week it’s key to replace the fluids and electrolytes lost from the body during sweating. This will help to keep the body hydrated and ensure the players can perform at 100% in the next match. - ✅ Replenish - given that the glycogen levels in the body will have dropped substantially from the beginning of the match, it is important to ensure that any post match meal helps to replenish them. One recommendation is approximately 0.5-1g/kg of body weight every hour for 2-3 hours post match however this may vary depending on the exertion of the player. These carbs should hopefully be of a good clean source, such as rice or pasta. - ✅ Repair - It is also important to remember that the body is essentially repairing itself post match from all of the strains and muscle damage that may have occurred during the 90-mins, therefore another important factor is ensuring there is enough protein supplied to the body. If there has been an appropriate pre-match meal consumed containing protein, this can still be contributing to the slow realest of nutrients into the body up to 5 hrs later, as a result as long as proper meal planning has taken place there is no need to down those protein shakes immediately post performance. - There’s a lot of chat about high GI foods post match, which can be useful, however unless you are required to perform again in a short space of time, ie. the same day, its not necessarily required to consume high GI foodstuff at that time. - Whats your thoughts? What’s the BEST Pre-Match Meal?
You might have noticed there’s a pretty big football event happening right now so we thought we’d have a quick look at some of the nutritional guidelines out there #fifaworldcup #fifa
✅ EAT CARBS - okay so it seems obvious, but the guide is 1-4g per kg of bodyweight. For the players on the pitch at #russia2018 thats probably going to be nearer the higher end.
... ⬆️ make sure these carbs are QUALITY STARCHY CARBS
✅ EAT 2-4HRS BEFORE THE MATCH/PERFORMANCE - try to eat at least 2 hours before to ensure you’re performing on a clear stomach. But less than 4hrs, to get the full benefit of the meal.
✅ DRINK WATER - okay so it maybe doesn’t need to be specifically water, but STAY HYDRATED. Just like any performance its important to stay hydrated to avoid a reduction in performance due to to dehydration. The specific amount of water to drink will vary with minimum guidelines being 6-8 glasses of fluid per day however given the additional training and environmental temperatures increasing sweat, this amount can increase drastically.
✳️ Essential to all of the above however is maintaining a good healthy balanced diet in the run up to any match or performance ensuring the bodies energy stores are appropriately stocked.

I started with Pegasus training 8 weeks ago and I have to say it was the probably one of the best decisions I ever have made. After my university education was complete, I was at a crossroads in what I wanted to do as a career. After much thought I decided that I wanted to pursue a career as a personal trainer. Through research I discovered about Pegasus and decided to come in and have a chat with Sean . Sean was very helpful in explaining what the 8 week course was all about and what it would entail. From that initial chat , I decided that they were the guys I wanted to do it with. Through out the eight weeks I have pushed myself harder than I ever had before( especially in the gym !) I was definitely undercooking the weights I could lift and now I'm feeling much more confident in myself and also in my ability to take clients as a personal trainer.

Ray and Sean were also great at teaching and they helped to make it as fun as possible.

I qualified as a personal trainer through Pegasus training a year ago and I want to say a big thank you to Ray and Shaun.

In just over a year I have gone from a self employed personal trainer to being the head personal trainer in one of the largest gyms in the west of Scotland as well as running my own military fitness training and bootcamp business.

If you want to be the best, you need to learn from the best and I wouldn't recommend any training provider over Pegasus.

I highly recommend Pegasus Training, it was the best course I've ever been on! After falling behind with my HNC fitness course at college due to family matters I decided to go into private training for my level 2+3 qualifications as I realised that the college course was geared more towards university than the personal training industry. I met with Sean and he was really friendly, welcoming and down to earth, telling me like it was and not hitting me with sales pitches like other training companies had done! We arranged a start date and I began the course the week after where I met Ray he is a really nice, funny and down to earth person aswel and that made the course even more enjoyable. I completed L2, 3, circuits, kettlebells , Trx and spin in 8 weeks and was so happy. I am now working in the industry starting my own Pt business through a well known gym and it's been a whole new experience once again. Things started off slow but you just have to stick in there like everything else in life! Thanks Ray Watts & Sean Porter, I will be coming to see you both again very soon ;-)

I found it to be a completely different learning environment to any college or university. It is a much more relaxed way of teaching Sean and Ray operate who are active PT's with years of experience within the industry who know their stuff. These guys don't just read from slides, they use different teaching methods in order to get across the material and then some, teaching more than you need to know. I can absolutely recommend Pegasus for anyone who's ever thought about entering the Health & Fitness industry. They are willing to go the extra mile to give all the help and support you need. Whenever you want help with anything you get it even after the course is completed. I would like to thank Sean and Ray for all the knowledge they have given me. :)

Sean and Ray really take the time to go into depth with everything and teach you more than just what's in your manual! I also had to miss lessons and leave early some days due to work, they were really accommodating for this and I didn't feel like I ever fell behind because of it! I did the indoor studio cycling course it was a really good and very enjoyable especially the instructors Ray and Sean very good coaches will recommend to go with this training company the facility is very excellent and the restaurant food is very healthy it will be one of greatest experiences on a fitness course Pegasus training is a must I will definitely be going back this year .

I am 45, have 3 young children and this has been the best career decision of my life. Initially I started on the Level 2 Gym Instructor Course then got hooked and decided to do Level 3 PT, indoor cycling, circuits, kettle bell training and suspension straps and genuinely loved every minute of it. It's hard work mentally and physically but nothing worth while is ever easy! Sean and Ray are very professional and at the same time great fun. There is always a good dose of humour thrown into the day! I liked the fact they always taught you more than you needed to know and learnt lots from their experience and up to date knowledge of the industry. I can't wait to get out there and make it happen! Great training highly recommend to get you where you want to be as a pt or fitness instructor.
