🚨 LONG POST 🚨 My Shoplife #myshoplife19 • Day THIRTY! • If I could change ... this was meant to be a big picture consideration, if you were in a position of power what could & would you change about shopping / retail / your town etc. Some would close amazon, some ask for a level playing field, reduced VAT or rates for small business, town centre free parking etc. For me I feel like Small shops need a * David Attenborough plastic straw moment * we do offer products not availa...ble as easily online, were competitive on price, & we offer much more on personal service, gift wrap etc and your purchase is available immediately. This photo above is from our opening day, June 2016, full of anticipation & excitement for this new adventure. I love running this shop it means so much to me. But I’m finding the retail conditions difficult, you’re not spending as much with us and in turn we’re struggling to bring you fresh stationery design & cards. We’ve seen Three #myshoplife friends close in 2019 - 2 in April alone. This is my warning shot I guess, Buy local or Bye Bye PMI 👋 I hate to end this wonderful Shoplife challenge on this note 📝 but someone once said honesty was the best policy.

My Shoplife #myshoplife19 • Day Twenty Nine • 2019 Plans • penultimate post for #myshoplife19 I have SO MUCH planned for this year for PMI, having just returned to work I am currently working 3 full days and evenings here & there. We’ve had great success with our own card range instore since September so I want to refine, create a more collective range and continue moving forward with this, taking on customer feedback at the same time. We’ve plans for thank you notelets, off ...the shelf wedding stationery, customisable wedding & new home stationery, my absolutely fave new product of affirmation mini postcards covering positivity, small business running & hypnobirthing. We’re working on developing our workshop space into something more inspirational and setting up new workshops are on the list including a ‘How to sell to shops’ and a Goal Workshop later in the year. Lots of pop up events in the diary including two in May .... and planning for our 3rd Elgin Business Birthday in June. Pretty exciting stuff writing them all this down! ✏️ 📒 🖊

My shoplife #myshoplife19 • Day Twenty Six • Evolve & Change • well I just can’t help myself, I’m always on the look out to constantly tweak and improve things here at PMI, painting bits & bobs, new ranges, displays & challenging window displays! As a wee independent we can duck & dive & make quick changes easily compared to those big larks in the retail parks. I also love to plan a layout, bit of grid or graph paper is never far away, I’m constantly trying to rework our workshop space it is our constant #wip

My Shoplife #myshoplife19 • Day Twenty Three • Being a shopkeeper means to me • Being an online shop never entered my mind as an option for Pencil Me In, I wanted that customer interaction, to be able to open my door to the world and curate the interior. Recreating the experience that I love when visiting other small shops & specifically stationery shops. I love being part of a local & National network of small shops keeping our high streets interesting & enjoyable. I’ve also been lucky enough to provide employment to others. I LOVE chatting with our customers and many have turned into friends, such a huge positive impact on my life. Every purchase in store however small or large to me is a compliment as you‘re buying what I’ve chosen. So thank you 🙏🏻

My Shoplife #myshoplife19 • Day Twenty One • How do you eat yours? • personally I like to bit off the top lick out the inside and then chomp the rest of the chocolate but it was so damm hot today we went to @stewndrews ice cream in Hopeman and had Creme Egg Ice Cream! Just received my pencils and they are just what I wanted. Can't wait to get a trip up to the actual shop.

I'm delighted that:

1. I found somewhere to buy a range of Blackwing pencils individually

2. The items were delivered the very next day

3. There was a kind refund for part of the p&p due to the diddy size of the parcel

4. I had a lovely handwritten note in my parcel.

My only disappointment is how far away you are! Fabulous service, and I'll definitely be back! Thank you so much!
