BJORN from Caithness BJORN - We had to say goodbye to Bjorn this morning at the grand old age of 35 years. His teeth let him down in the end with only one and half molars left to try to chew with and the last few weeks saw his weight drop dramatically and his energy evaporated with it. It was time to be kind and get the vet. He was the best trekking horse we ever had and for nearly 20 years he combed the Pentland Hills with all sorts of dodgy riders on (or half on) his ba...ck. He loved his work, often jumping out to follow ‘his’ herd into the hills on his day off. It was a seven day week for Bjorn, that is how he wanted it and it made him so very fit. He never ever had a day’s illness that I can remember in all these years. So many people have ridden him over those trekking years and those that did so will remember he always liked to be tucked in behind the leader (he hated to lead) and woe betide any horse that tried to overtake! Many people fell off him because his tolt was as uncomfy as his trot and indeed one or two unfortunate riders did break the odd bone or two but it was never Bjorn’s fault. He was very predictable especially in the way he rounded up his many ‘wives’ and guarded them ferociously in the field. Luckily we have been able to repay him with a stress free, contented retirement at Rogersrigg, wandering around in long grass with his best pal Jock always at his side. The end of an era.

ORKA – She is a beautiful red mare (with strange white flecks all over her body and a star), born in 2010 and now trained and ready to move on. She was born and reared here and we take care in training all our own horses properly when they are mentally and physically ready. This is usually between 5 and 6 years old. We can give you a full history in photos. To handle she is easy in every way and has seen traffic, livestock, all farmy flappy things etc and she boxes, catches a...nd shoes easily. She is keen when she hacks out across the countryside and loves to lead! She is very well mannered, intelligent and answers to the lightest of aids. Her gaits are all easy and clear and recently she has found very fast pace although we don’t encourage this too much due to the terrain here. Trot and tolt are easy to find. Orka has a strong build and is a good size. She has a lovely head with big kind dark eyes. One of the pics shows her with my grandson on board being lead. She is very cuddly! She will make a lovely horse to hack out on and the further the better as far as she is concerned! No sweet itch and never had a health problem. She would also make a good quality brood mare with some rare colour genes in her makeup. Her dam is a beautiful vindott. £5200.00
PUÐRA – This jet black little mare with a distinctive snip is very sweet and loving. She is smaller than Orka but strong enough. She was born here in 2011, reared with her peers and has been brought on slowly. Much of the above description is the same for her except that she isn’t quite as far trained as Orka. We think she will suit an experienced child or light adult and would make a lovely family horse along with another. Again she is well bred by the same stallion as Orka (Isak fra Efri Brunavollum) and is an honest wee horse. She is always very keen to please and just needs a little more training before suiting a smaller rider. No sweet itch. £ 4700.00
