Benny Lynch, Scotland’s first-ever World Champion boxer, is the focus of a new display at People’s Palace, Glasgow. Former World Champion boxer Jim Watt MBE unveiled the exhibition at what is one of city’s most popular museums, located only minutes from where Benny Lynch grew up.
In addition to the World and European Championship trophies Benny Lynch won in 1937 – which were rediscovered in 2016 and reunited for the first time since 1946 - this presentation showcases a number of never-before-seen objects. These include Benny Lynch’s first and only professional boxing contract signed by the man himself and his manager Sammy Wilson in 1934.
The exhibition is on now and entry is free.

Benny Lynch, Scotland’s first-ever World Champion boxer, is the focus of a new display at People’s Palace which was unveiled today by former World Champion boxer Jim Watt MBE. Following a highly successful and popular travelling display honouring Lynch, this new exhibition celebrates the boxing legend in one of Glasgow's most popular museums, only minutes from where Lynch grew up.
Pictured (L-R) are Jim Watt MBE, Kevin Kerrigan, Open Museum Outreach Worker, and Bryan Turnbull, member of the campaign group 'Statue for Benny’. The Benny Lynch exhibition is FREE to visit. It is located in the Welcome Room on the ground floor of People’s Palace, Glasgow.

User

The place is just beautiful. Love the mastership of the fountain. Just mind blowing. The smell in botanical gardens is absolutely amazing. And all the flowers and trees and unusual plants. Just fascinating. And I loved all the history of Glasgow with all the pictures and video compilation.

User

Super friendly, engaged staff are what give this museum an edge. A great overview of life in Glasgow from the glamorous to the grim. Winter Gardens and the Green make it a lovely day out.

User

My 20mth old son and I were out at the park in Glasgow Green and decided to drop into the cafe and botanical gardens, the coffee and cake were lovely and my son loved exploring the botanical garden and wider garden outside. It's a marvellous place for fun for all ages. I never get bored of the place ❤️❤️❤️

User

I didn't get to see the People's Palace in 2016 on my first time back to Glasgow in 27 years. In 2017 my cousin took me and it was a nice day to go as it was nice and sunny. Always enjoyed going here when I was younger on holiday from Germany in the early '80s. An excellent look into early life and the history around Glasgow going through the war years, post war, '80s to now. The winter garden is still wonderful. Many of the things on display from the late '70 through early '80s I remember. It is still free for visitors and definitely a nice museum to visit.

User

Had a lovely afternoon there, hadn't been in years. Plants in the garden are amazing and had a good laugh in the museum. Lots of seats to sit on both inside and outside.

Good variety of food in the cafe and a lovely cup of tea. Most of the staff were very friendly and pleasant.

Will definitely be back soon.

User

Had a great afternoon looking around with the family. Changed a lot since I had last been, which was a number of years ago. Cafe was reasonably priced and food was good. All in all a pleasant winters afternoon was spent xx

User

Great place to dodge the rain on a showery Saturday. Really does give you a view of "the people's Glasgow"! Easy stroll from the city centre with the added benefits of Glasgow Green.

User

Great facility in Glasgow, another free venue for families and parking is not too bad. The hot house and museum are excellent as are the staff and all the free space around make it a great place to visit. The play park for kids brilliant. Well done to Glasgow City Council for this place.

User

Great arts n crafts day making stained glass windows x

User

Fascinating trip round the ages. Still chuckling at Rab C Nesbitt's old TV clips.

Loved the Winter Garden. Would have loved to have stayed for coffee in the lovely Garden setting but short of time.

Outside the very attractive Templeton building and fountain were well worth admiring.

A most pleasant afternoon on Glasgow Green topped off by a stroll and the lit- up Arch at the bridge end of the park.

User

Fabulous museum of working class Glasgow, but that Fizzers place is a waste of exhibition space. And the gift shop has very little relevant stock.

User

Fab, fun and free, can't often say all three together.. Kids loved it too...then afterwards to the sand park then the bicycle free run too, again next to nothing packed lunch, £1 for free run and if want to and ice cream for a treat..great day

User

Fab park and all free great for all ages 1st visit to glasgow loved all the muesum so much to do and see

User

Absolutely love this place! Always have and the staff are brilliant! The Winter Gardens staff are lovely too and in particular the staff in the Encore canteen :) thank you all so much for your dedication to this wonderful museum and thank you to Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Council for maintaining it and keeping it as a free entry venue x

User

The food and the staff were both terrific and the Doultan Fountain was amazing being the biggest terracotta fountain in the world.

User

Would have been better if land services turned up to open the gates ,especially with a coach load of children to drop off at 9:30

User

Took the kids to show them some Glesga culture. Still fantastic. Staff in the museum were friendly and helpful. Fantastic caricature exhibition which the kids loved participating in...!!

The only negative was the cafe...the staff were the most miserable, unhelpful people imaginable. Could do with some training in customer service. Good manners cost nothing...!!
