Beverly recently visited the museum with her father, just before A Perthshire Christmas closed last weekend.
She said ‘My Dad & I very much enjoyed the exhibition & were particularly interested to see the photograph titled, The Balhousie Boys 1947. I was overwhelmed to see my Dad as a boy in the picture, surrounded by his friends, he is the one in the centre with his hands on the snowball, wearing a jacket torn at the elbow. He remembered a number of their names & helping to ...make the huge snowball, stating that they did manage to launch it into the Tay! He also said, that he has memories of it being shown at the Perth Museum & Art Gallery around the time it was taken. It is a beautifully framed photo & gives an amazing snapshot in time of the joy & adventure that the 1947 Winter brought to the boys.’ Thanks for sharing this story with us Beverly!

On the 6th of February 1918, after fifty years of campaigning, some British women were finally granted the vote. 100 years on, Culture Perth and Kinross Libraries would like to mark 100 years of suffrage by hosting a panel discussion on how far we have come in those 100 years. Our panel will consist of local authors, journalists and businesswomen and will be hosted by writer Daniel Gray, the people’s historian. Dan will steer our panel through their discussion, offering a little historical insight into local suffragette activities and will ask our panel to reflect on how winning political citizenship has impacted on women's lives today. We want to look forward to the next 100 years and think about how far women have come and what challenges still lie ahead. A small exhibition of photos and text will support this panel discussion.

We have always gone to the museum with our children and now grandchildren over the 27 years we have lived in Perth. The exhibitions are excellent and the children have asked to go back again regularly. We attended the Lego exhibition with our younger daughter, Allie and her two sons, Calder, aged 5 and Harrison, aged 2. We all thought it was excellent and the boys loved being able to make things as well as view the items on display. Well done to everyone involved as we had a super time.

Visited the On Paper exhibition, and Magnus Jackson photography. Both excellent, beautifully displayed, interesting, lovely museum, and a warm welcome from staff.

Took 10 of our primary 7 children for a morning workshop with Barbara Hamilton. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and came away full of enthusiasm . Thanks so much Barbara . Tulloch primary school Perth

The £2 talk yesterday on Prehistoric Perthshire was both interesting and informative and the archaeologist giving it was enthusiastic and certainly knew his subject. I always try to go to the talks as they have varied topics. Perth Museum is such a lovely place to visit. The exhibits are very child friendly, with touchy-feely things etc and lots of cafés nearby for a treat afterwards.

User

Such a lovely museum and lovely exhibitions . Not one to be missed if your visiting Perth xx

My 8 year old Grandson, Aaron, suggested this as a birthday present for my 59th birthday and I'm so glad he did, as we went with him, my 16 year old Grandson, Kyle, their Mum and Dad (Sharlene and Andy) and of course my hubby, Alan, was there too. The lego displays were amazing and there was plenty of time to enjoy looking at them. The museum was interesting too, particularly the information on geology and wildlife. We have promised ourselves a re-visit to see the art gallery. Thank you to the busy staff on duty on the day, they made us feel welcome and were very informative (the lady who checked tickets at the lego/museum entry/exit point and the gentleman who told of the meteorite crashing through the house roof in particular.

Me and my family went today. My little girl needed fed (breastfeeding) half way through. I sat in the room dedicated to perth and began to feed her. A lovely woman who works at the museum asked if I was ok and did I want a glass of water. I just wanted to say how thoughtful and so kind of that lovely woman to offer. It felt great. Thank you xx

User

Lovely morning spent here. Well laid out and flowed well from one topic to another, really enjoyed learning more about Perth and the surrounding area including our local wildlife. They had lots of activities for the kids as they have a dinosaur exhibit on just now but they also had a quiz for eh children to complete with clipboards which made it really interactive for them. Staff were helpful and friendly 👍🏻

Love this place and to cap it all many moons ago I used to work at the museum and absolutely loved working there, so interesting

I’ve not been to the Gallery and Museum in years. I visited specifically today for the Learn Cyanotype Class. It was a great event, I’m so glad I went. The tutor was great, the class was of mixed ages, children and adults and he articulated the process brilliantly, showed us how simple the process is, we all got fantastic results on our first attempt.

I’ll be experimenting over the weekend with the sheets of treated paper we got to take home.

I really enjoyed the photographic exhibition which is currently on, quite inspiring to see before the class. The whole gallery and museum are well worth a visit.
