Pig in a Poke is Edinburgh’s latest addition to the takeaway scene, serving up slow-roasted whole pork, cooked for a minimum of 18 hours. This is no-nonsense, honest slow – and soul – food that comes at a flat rate of £3. 80 for pork and all its trimmings (stuffing and crackling), served in either an artisan roll or wrap and topped with a choice of homemade apple sauce and braised red cabbage or smokey BBQ sauce and homemade coleslaw. Portions (and prices) can be adjusted for skinny piggies or piglets.

Coffee and teas start at £1. 50. A range of soft drinks is also available.
