About Projekt 42

A not-for-profit and the UK's first gym to combine physical fitness and mental health services. Building happy bodies and strong minds.

Projekt 42 Description

Projekt 42 is a not-for-profit gym & wellness centre in Leith, Edinburgh, focusing on strengthening the connection between mental health and physical fitness. We use mindful exercise to help people see and understand the connection between your mind and your body, and appreciate the need to take care of both.

We are a small new charity but we're on a mission to make mental health something we all talk about. We're breaking the stigma one weight lifting, yoga and meditation class at a time.

Our studio is staffed by people who live in Leith and most instructors volunteer their time which works to ensure our prices are as cheap and accessible as they can be.

Even if you're new to fitness, yoga or meditation, there is something for everyone at the studio.

User

Went to Jenny's class this morning for first time. She made me, and the other first timers, so welcome and explained everything really well. I didn't feel silly even though I got quite a few moves wrong! Thanks and see you next week.

User

Tried the Dru Yoga class yesterday, it was really nice for the first-timer I was.

Excited to go back for PiYo and maybe more classes during the week.

It's a really great option for someone like me who needs an accessible & friendly place to gently get back on the exercising track.

I like the emphasis on mental health, which I think is important for people who have been avoiding exercise mostly because they associate it with guilt and non safe-space that can be more common studios...

The space is lovely and well thought out, and the overall concept really cool!

Suggestions : adding up the teachers' names and a mini bio on the website ? :) and maybe their name on the classes they're teaching.

I'd love a zumba class during the week ;)

A dance class would be incredible too !

User

The energy from Project42 is obvious and the welcome that you receive really sets it apart from other gyms.

Every trainer is friendly and everyone that walks through the door or even hangs by the door is greeted warmly and invited to join.

Also, the informal environment makes working out feel less like a chore and more a fun activity. It is child friendly and whilst I don’t have children their presence adds to the atmosphere- the instructor and gym is not there to make people feel on edge or nervous but just to encourage them to get moving and do their best.

Finally, as well as a gym it’s a great place to meet new friends or simply feel part of the team seeing the same friendly familiar faces! In essence the instructors are confident and comfortable and seem genuine. Thanks P42 for stripping the workouts back to basics and for creating such a supportive environment!

User

Such an amazing gym with a difference. The classes are varied and the trainers are really motivating, encouraging and get to know the members well. Being child friendly is a total bonus as I never have to worry about childcare and my daughter loves watching my gym classes.

User

Really enjoying all the classes and new timetable. Brilliant yoga classes. Friendly and encouraging enviroment.

User

Projekt42 is more of a community than a gym. It is full of people there to encourage, support and help you achieve your goals however small or big they may be.

I now look forward to going to the gym and have met some amazing and inspiring people as a result.

The classes are fun and varied with trainers who will make you feel like you can do that extra squat or situp.

I love this place and hope it continues to help lots of others to use exercise as a way to escape and feel better about themselves.

User

Projekt 42 is amazing! Huge variety of classes, all with super friendly and dedicated instructors and for such a reasonable price. Really recommend it.

User

Project 42 is amazing! Everyone will find something for themselves there. It is a beautiful community and I am glad I found it 💓

User

Lovely place. I've signed up to many gyms in the past went 3 times and never went back. Not here, it's much more personal and makes you want to come back. Atmosphere is welcoming and lovely and the trainers are all brilliant. Never felt out of place here.

Would recommend it to anyone!

User

I've been along to the Hatton boxing class on a Thursday evening despite having absolutely no experience so I was a bit nervous!

Matt's an excellent instructor and takes time to ensure that the exercises are suited to all levels. He'll come round and make an effort to provide one on one feedback if you need a bit of help with your technique. It's a really friendly, welcoming environment and a great way to improve your fitness - would definitely recommend!

User

I'm totally loving the classes at projekt 42. It's such a friendly place with friendly instructors and gym goers. Daisy, Barry and Lea amongst others are great instructors, friendly, encouraging and motivating. The hiit classes I have attended have almost instant results and I have lost almost 2 stone in 3 months. Also admirable is the not for profit and social inclusion ethos. Thanks to all the team at projekt 42

User

I went to a family yoga class with my nephew today and it was fab, the teacher was super welcoming and was really accommodating to a 4 year old who was interested in playing and doing the odd bit of yoga! We will definitely be back, thanks! And you can take kids to all their classes, fab!

User

I have been going for a few weeks now to the All in One Circuit class on a Tuesday evening. It is hard work, but great as you can work at your own level. Everyone is very friendly, welcoming and its great fun. I have also tried the Ashtanga Yoga on a Monday morning as trying to get back into it. I really enjoy the class as you feel you have done some work after it. I would say suitable for anyone that has done a little yoga before. Totally recommend checking the classes out.

User

I can’t recommend P42 enough, the classes are varied, run several times through the week so you can find a day/time that suits and are honestly an enjoyable place to be.

The trainers here are unbelievably welcoming, they greet you as soon as you’re in the door, they take time to learn your name, your interests, they even notice if you got new shoes for Christmas and they’re always up for a laugh and don’t mind you threatening them after the second round of burpees.

This week I saw Sara carry around a member’s toddler so the Mum could keep working out, she even did sit ups with him sitting on her knees, if that’s not motivating I don’t know what is.

User

Highly recommended especially for those that dont have the confidence to go at it at the big gyms....i was very self conscious when i tried the gym before but at this class i dont. Jennifer makes you feel so welcome & makes the class fun aswell as putting you through your paces. I enjoy a tuesday workout

User

Having never been to a gym class before I can say that I've really enjoyed all the classes at Project 42. There's a great community spirit and the classes are full of lovely, encouraging and supportive people! The trainers are also great so get yourself signed up!

User

Have done the boot camp on the links a couple of times and it's great fun, and you can go at your own pace so it suits everyone. I tried PiYO for the first time tonight and I bloody loved it. Absolutely brilliant class, tougher than I expected but fast moving so a great workout. Definitely recommend it folks, worth a visit.

User

Fantastic place to do some guided exercises for your body and/or your mind, be it with weights or with boxing gloves or just on a mat. Friendly instructors and fellow exercisers.... Plus no hefty fees, what's not to love?

Best gym I have ever been too, judgment free, inclusive and surviving metafit makes me feel super human
