Thought that as I was making shampoo bars, I would give conditioner bars a go too. Charcoal shampoo bars and cocoa butter and macadamia conditioner bars. Looking for an assessment soon I think πŸ’œ

Initial attempts at Star Wars bath bombs, a bit of breakage on the smaller ones but overall quite happy with them, looks like I will be adding these to the gift sets πŸ’œ

Bath bomb assessments are back woohoo! New batches of soap are curing in time for xmas gift sets, Star Wars soap anyone?
On a serious note I have seen an increasing number of home crafter pages advertising items as being available in any fragrance and any colour, while these products may look very nice I would suspect that they have not been safety assessed. The average cost of a safety assessment is approx. Β£180, and to assess every possible fragrance/ colour combi...nation would require a small fortune. Safety assessments are a legal requirement to protect the consumer, if you are unsure you can request to see any manufacturers PIF- product information file, this file contains all safety data sheets for each ingredient, manufacturing practices and most importantly the safety assessment of each product. Each product should also have ingredients clearly stated complete with a list of allergens, an address and contact details. πŸ’œ

While waiting for the bath bomb assessment I’ve gone back to tinkering with lotions and creams. I have several issues with traditional creams in that the main ingredient you are paying for is water, even your high end expensive stuff will be 60-70 % water with very little active ingredients, and where you have water you need a preservative. There are more natural based preservatives available but their efficacy is pretty poor compared to the harsh synthetic stuff that I am trying to avoid, so, I am currently attempting to make an anhydrous ( no water) cream which would mean no preservatives needed and a highly concentrated product. First batch looks good, a mixture of waxes, oils, starches and fatty alcohols (from coconut). πŸ’œ

Looks like i’ve cracked it! Currently 26 degrees in my workshop and as you can see the coconut oil body butter isn’t holding up at all. However, to the left (chocolate) and right (peppermint) are batches made with differing ratios of cocoa butter (higher melting point than coconut) and sweet almond, both of which are holding up quite well, so just final inclusions to consider then re assess and hopefully I can offer a less melty body butter πŸ™ƒπŸ’œ

Heads up to anyone going to buy a body butter, they have probably melted due to the heat πŸ˜‚, as I dont use artificial stabilisers in my products and I cant yet control the weather there is not much I can do about it, so I have decided to stop making them and go back to the drawing board. I will endeavour to replace them with a similar type of product using ingredients with higher melting points which should hopefully stop this happening again, apologies for any inconvenience caused πŸ™ƒ

Finally got my finger out and sent for bath bomb assessments! If approved the range will be lavender and bentonite, lemongrass and green tea, chocolate orange, neroli and nettle leaf, tangerine and himalayan salt and rose geranium πŸ’œ

Tried the Sandalwood liquid soap and Spearmint body butter- absolutely delighted with both and intend working my way through both ranges. The body butter feels a bit "grainy" to start with, but melts on contact with the skin and is very moisturising without feeling "claggy". Have been gifted a bar of the Sandalwood as well and am loving it too. Highly recommend these products to anyone, especially those with sensitive skin. Wish I'd tried them sooner.
